When my husband and I built our home, we put a full bath right next to the door to our garage just so we could throw a baby calf in the tub to warm up. We know what ranching entails and every part of our life revolves around it.

The number one rule in emergency medicine in regards to hypothermia, no one is dead until they are warm and dead. Great team effort in trying to save the calf. Number one started life looking and acting very healthy, unfortunately life can take dramatic turns.

Lol, love the way you say it's the kids bathroom! Makes no difference what you do with the animals since you don't have to clean it up!🤣😂🤣 I think it's wonderful the way you all care for the calves. Amazing!🙏😸🐄

Mike thanks for sharing, I can only imagine all the emotions you went through. It’s got to be hard, even more so since your rebuilding the herd and doing a different way of selling your cattle. Prayers and McKenzie is so sweet and adorable. About made me tear up when you told her and the response she gave. But I know it’s life and death in livestock business

I sure am sorry No. 1 didn't make it. You and Erin did all you could do to help him though. When he got back with mom, he really looked like he was going to be okay. Makes me wonder if she was giving him enough groceries to survive in the subzero temps and windchill. I'm very sad he didn't make it. Thanks to you and Erin for working so hard trying to save him.

I believe #1actually knew y’all was trying to help him. I found myself praying while watching this one, even though I knew it was a day later! I am sorry, cause I know it hurts still. You can tell by the way you and Erin take care of the cows and calves. I’ll still keep y’all in prayers

Mike and Erin I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s funny I knew while I was watching this video that I could fast forward to learn about what happened to the little calf but I just couldn’t because I thought that if Mike is suffering through this and you are suffering through this Erin that I should also to some degree as a subscriber. I was so happy when he was put back with his mom only to find that he had passed away five hours later. Your jobs are so hard physically and emotionally it takes a certain amount of character to do what you guys are doing with the amount of emotion and love that you do it with. It’s funny kinda makes me not want to eat beef watching all the work it takes to get those other puppies to my dinner table. But I am a lover of great steak. Thank you again for all the love and attention you gave to number one.

I'm so sorry for the loss of #1 calf. My mom watches you and she cryed. You and Erin both worked so hard to help #1 survive. God bless you and Erin 💞

Timing is everything, may be worth while to have some glucose on hand for things like this... ask your vet about it. There is a very thin line between life and death in harsh weather conditions. We are so sorry for this outcome. You did all you could have done under the circumstances. RIP #1

Hey Mike, I'm wondering. Since you're not sending the calves to auction now, cod you wait a month or so to put the bulls out with the cows so that next year's babies are born later when it's a bit warmer? Is that now a possibility? I'm real bummed about #1, he was my favorite so far since he was such a little guy. He was a good boy!

I thought so as well but a calf born in tough winter times are the strongest and more adaptable during summer and eating green pasture later before the next fall. Summer time is a crazy time when calf are born because of the calf s growing to fast before born and all the pest and type of stumach problems carried by flies make it more risky . Seasons are changing and you never know what the wheater will throw at you.

I agree we put our bulls in where they're we have spring calves and fall calf's about August to October so when winter gets here in Missouri' they're big enough they can handle the winter

Mike, I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to work that hard to save a life just to lose it. It does make a person realize how tenuous life is. Once again so sorry take care stay warm and may God bless you and yours.

Great work that Wyoming weather can be pretty harsh during the calving season. I grew up in Newcastle and both of my parents grew up on homesteads in the Black Hills in the early 1900s. Ranching is hard work, especially in the elements that God gives us at times.

@@_AndromedaGalaxy_ I am from Montana also I born in Missoula raised in Kalispell and returned to Missoula. I love Montana. I just hated to cold winters. Couldn't make a decent living there. My husband and I were at poverty level there. Now we live in Texas and we are in the upper middle class. His and my whole family live there. We are going back this August to visit for 2 months.

What an emotional video! It truly shows how hard you work and how much you love each member of your herd. I am so sorry for your loss. #1 was a beautiful calf. It is clear that you did everything possible to save him. You should feel good about that, despite the outcome.
