I can't imagine how anyone raising chicken wouldn't want a door like this. It was a great installation, and to think a 3 year warranty, that is fantastic in this day and age. On top of that they include the batteries. I'm with you when it comes to calling a company for whatever reason and you have to jump through hoops of yes and no questions until your ready to scream. Thanks for sharing this video, and have a Blessed day.

Hey, really nice video. I used to work at chicken guard a few years ago and did a lot of work on the design of the locking door. It’s super nice to see it actually being used. I hope it worked well and you didn’t have many problems with it :)
@HiddenCreekHomestead3 жыл бұрын
They work great. I have two of them actually. Only complaint is that one goes through batteries faster than the other… cant figure out why🤷🏻♂️. But its s very trivial complaint. They have been reliable which is the main thing. Thanks for watching!

do you know if any of their products that have a safety mechanism so this style of door does not crush them?
@jordan450r3 жыл бұрын
Instead of using a timer you should use the Lux+ mode. It uses the Lux light sensor and then adds additional time. It's made for chickens that like to stay out a little after dark. Then you don't have to constantly change the closing time around the length of day. Its a super handy fetcher. (Assuming its on the Premium, I know its on the Extreme.)
@HiddenCreekHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I may experiment with that. Thanks for watching!

Nice looking coop. How can you be sure all the chickens are in before the door closes? Obviously I have never raised chickens 🐓
@HiddenCreekHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Greg J Great question. Chickens have very poor eyesight as it darkens out and they naturally look for a safe place to roost or sleep for the night. When we moved them into the coop, we do it towards the evening and lock them in to reinforce that the coop is “home”. The next night, about 3/4 went in on their own and we had a few that we had to help out, the next night were 3 chickens out, then two, then one, and finally on the 4th night, they all went in on their own. Many choose to lock them in their for a few days initially, which also works. Our method takes a little more work but we don’t mind. Hope that makes sense.

Is the opening big enough for a very large rooster
@HiddenCreekHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Hi Angelia, I suppose. Our large rooster is a Welsummer which is only a standard breed (unlike the brahma). However, Ive seen someone using this door with turkeys and it worked out pretty good. I actually have a second one and will be trying it out once we start raising turkeys too. Thanks for the comment!

is there a safety mechanism on this? I keep reading where these style doors are killing chickens by crushing them.
@HiddenCreekHomestead2 жыл бұрын
The door literally weighs a couple ounces at most and comes down slowly with gravity by a string. There’s no way it could crush them. If they walk under it while it closed, it would just rest on their back lol. It wouldn’t keep going down

I am not a fan of Chicken Guard doors. IMO the design is great but the internal components are junk. In fact I bought and installed a CG door on my coop in March and it failed just 5 months later. After contacting the manufacturer I was sent a new motor. I installed the new motor and a messily 5 weeks later it failed again. I wouldn’t recommend Chicken Guard at all unless one likes to waste money.
