My recipe for curing or preserving salmon eggs and Steelhead/Rainbow eggs. Only use this recipe for fishing applications. Best Recipe and only recipe you will ever need!!!!

I usually carry the eggs home in a Ziploc bag filled with river water. As soon as I get home I empty the river water out and begin to cure them. The firmness is very similar to what they'd be like right out of the fish. They are a little more durable though and they don't turn white as fast as river cured roe. Thanks for watching my video.

Glad it worked out well for you. It's the only roe cure I use. Ive tried a ton of other recipes but this is the best by far. You'll find that the eggs last a long time, even in very cold water. Thanks for watching.

Most water hardened eggs don’t have much scent and don’t milk at all when they hit the water. Just curious because there is the brown sugar in there do these milk with scent?

Are the eggs you cured rive cured already, or straight out of the fish? How firm does this make them? I like river cure to harden the eggs up, but curious of your thoughts.

Are these cured eggs firm enough to separate into single eggs, pierce with a hook and fish for trout?

No, they will burst if you try to stick a hook in them. The only method I use is tying roe bags with the eggs I cure. They hold up really well in mesh bags. They also do really well in really cold water, they don't turn white nearly as fast as the stuff you buy at the bait shops. Tight lines.

hi There, I used this method for curing step by step and found something very strange and wondered if you could provide anwsers?? so I boild the borax, water and brown sugar and made sure that all the borax/sugar had dissolved. set outside and brought it to room tempature and then set my eggs in mixture for 20 mins.... when I set eggs in the water/borax/sugar mix the consistency was just like water with a bit of a red hue then when I went to scoop the eggs out all of the borax and sugar had reappered?? there was about 3" of borax and sugar in the bottom of the pot?? I know for a fact that I dissolved all the borax and sugar and found it very starnge that it came back? do the oil the eggs let off some how re activate it and make it come back???

That's a good question. I've never had that happen before. Did the eggs turn out ok? When I take mine out of the solution, I usually rinse them under cool tap water to clean them up a bit. Some times I will get some grains of sugar/borax on the eggs but it washes right off and doesn't affect the cure.. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

I found that the cure can't be allowed to cool down too much and then sit. If so, some of the ingredients settle on the bottom. When I saw this happening I just warmed my pot on the stove again and stirred for several minutes.

Yes this happened to me as well. If cooled off too much it will just settle at the bottom again, i still put my eggs in and they sank into the sugar and borax and i stirred a little bit. When i took them out i just rinsed them with cold water in a strainer. But my eggs are sticky is that bad?

ok I tried this and my question is after you leave them sit in the borax/brown sugar mixture for 20 mins when i put into a strainer I still had borax left on the eggs. will this hurt the eggs at all.
