Of note, restoring the pentarchy always disabled the papacy, that was part of the purple phoenix dlc. Edit: I'll add that Europe getting the event to switch to Orthodox was also Purple Phoenix. Just like the triumphs and some expansion missions. City of World's Desire was too, just it didn't do as much in the past as it does now. What this dlc mostly added to the experience was kind of rich diplomatic play and alternative money sources.

Weird thought, Quantity ideas is actually pretty decent for Byzantium. Let me give you the pros: - +2 pronoiar slots - more army = less liberty desire on pronoiar - more manpower = give more troops for less liberty desire - more forcelimit negates the negative forcelimit from pronoiar (stacks up if you have 6 or 7 at the same time) - more forcelimit allows you to get gucci missions a bit faster ("reform the themata" specifically) - more manpower for great projects With this perhaps you could even take influence as a 3d idea (the forcelimit bug)? It perhaps doesn't seem that way on this let's play, but liberty desire is quite a big problem with the pronoiars. Currently I have 8 vassals, of which 5 pronaiars, and the pronaiars all sit around 30-50% LD, while most of them are quite small (4-7 troops each). For comparison, my army is now 150/160 in 1514.

I think part of your issue with how quickly you are getting likes is because your start went surprisingly well really. A very quick expansion using quite a few of the options available and so the snowball has been picking up speed surprisingly quickly. And aside of Rome and its long history, people do also tend to like stories where the underdog wins despite the odds.

Imo influence would have been better than trade so that you can expand basically solely via subjects and using the pronoia interaction to inherit for free, have lots of subjects and keep subject liberty desire down, also if you get aristo, influence and admin then you get two policies giving diplo annexation cost reduction.. just something to consider as a different way to play byz in a similar way ^^ (also you can get all your subjects to transfer trade power if you want trade monies!)

Love the videos Ludi but man... I'm having such a hard time at the start of my Byz runs. even went down to just playing non Ironman and just having the hardest time handling the Ottomans. Those units they have are just insane. Was fighting 22k vs 12k (only 1/3rd of their army mind you) and losing. I would love to see a more in-depth first part if at all possible

I also was not the best player, and after retrying maybe 10-15 times, I gave up and just allied Austria, Hungary, Georgia, Serbia and the Pope, and we crushed them about 10 years into the game. So, don't feel the need to win so quickly-- just hang tight, and wait for a good opportunity. And don't forget to grab some temporary mercs to make other countries ally you!

You can also mend the schism in CK3 if you're an empire, control all five of the episcopal sees and I think having been made a saint, not sure about the last one, but almost every christian ruler converts to the branch of the church that does it. Koifish did it as Nubian Coptic Egypt.
