If you guys go back to this area, I'd highly recommend hiking Cathedral Wash. It's a bit of a drive as it's out by Lees ferry, but it's 'technically' in the Grand Canyon NP. Wear a swim suit under your hiking clothes as you can swim in the Colorado river at the bottom. No need for a guide. I wouldn't say it's an alternative to Antelope/Canyon X as it has a different feel, but if you want to do something where you have freedom without a guide/group, it's an excellent thing to do in addition to one of the others. Friends of ours tipped us off. They skinny dipped as they didn't know there was river access. They told us to wear swimmers and we're mighty glad as there were 2 boats full over river rafters moored up on the other side when we got to the bottom 🤣🤦♀️Saw no one on the way down and just 1 family on the way back out.

Nice video. H-Bend is still nice; but I remember it being so much better when it was not widely sought after or ran by the gov; many times there by myself of with the wife and kids...just pull in to the dirt/sand parking area and walk down the (unimproved) path. A recommended stop; just up the road, there is a Denny's on the left, take Scenic View Road for about half a mile and park in the lot. A 3 minute walk down the railed steps gives a great view of the river and dam (go over the railing if you are in need of some really incredible photos). Photographer Peter Lik, sold his famous photo "Phantom" for 6.5 mil in 2014 (most expensive ever) was shot in Lower Antelope Canyon. There was a time when a person could pay an extra fee (I think it cost me about $70 10 years back) and "self guide" yourself thru the lower slot from either direction (they wanted you out within 90 min). Some great photography on that day. Another day not so great; I had my camera poking thru "camera opening" in the fence on the Glen Canyon bridge for a midnight shot of the dam. As I drew the camera back thru the opening to adjust the clip on filter; "click", my +$200 filter detached and started it's 700' decent to the river below. I still have not taken a boat ride (from Page) to the Rainbow Bridge (arch).
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
With its popularity, it’s probably for the best that it is managed to ensure people do not destroy it. Can’t trust humans! That sucks about your filter! And we’d love to do that boat ride someday 😃

@demus87573 жыл бұрын
Horseshoe Bend is amazing, isn't it? Have been there a couple of times and it won't be the last time. Coming at sunset is a great idea cause you'll have the sun behind you and it will shine onto the front portion of the rock. In the afternoon when the sun is in the west you look straight into the sun, which is terrible for films and photo's. Antelope is similar amazing only so difficult to make pictures: they are either too dark or too light. Second time we did the photo tour around midday and saw the beam coming in from the top which is spectacular.

We personally loved sunrise because it was less crowded than what our friends experienced at sunset. The sun rises in front of Horseshoe Bend, so it turns a very beautiful pink color! We did their regular tour (not the photo one) and it looks like it costs around $38/person. Their photo tours are around $115/person. @AdventuresofAplusK5 жыл бұрын
Hi! There are no ladders in Canyon X, but they do have a steeper sand/dirt section you have to walk down to get to the canyons. If I remember correctly there may be stairs/or some material on that part so people do not have to just walk on dirt and have something to grip their shoes to. It wasn’t crazy steep, but definitely a decent incline. But we did not experience any of the ladders or super steep stairs we have seen at the other canyons. I hope that helps a tiny bit!
