I made a dress simular to this one, in maroon. I made the lining a nice contrasting color so the sleeves could be folded back to the elbow. It had bell sleeves. It now resides at the local theater where people fight for the chance to wear it.

You just need to sew a little more. It comes to you. Also, don’t be afraid to just screw up. I started with remaking stuff from thrift, so the stakes were lower. (A Suit of Lights from two cheap tacky old evening dresses was a great project! Very skill building.) Bedsheets from thrift - Use them for mock ups to check your stuff. Again, low risk cause you didn’t spend the family grocery budget for it. You need the right book. Everybody sews differently and you just work it out.

@@elizabethclaiborne6461 hi I have a degree in (theater) costuming where none of the professors were good at drafting. Also have been seeing since 1998. Literally no one I took sewing classes with ever knew how to draft or adapt patterns adequately. The one person I requested a class on how to draft patterns decided to become a hippie at the beginning of the pandemic and left my area. I’m a very hands on person that needs someone physically there showing me what to do. (So having a book or only watching a video does NOT help. I have books they’re literally Greek to me.) I’m just cursed with not having anyone to show me what to do.

Lovely gown! A note about the editing of the music: I'd recommend whilst you're talking to just keep the music at a low volume in the background as it would often and erratically drown out your words while you are speaking. Plus, it cuts down on editing time as well! Beautiful dress and love the spinning at the end!
@wendynordstrom34873 жыл бұрын
Yes, I came here to say the same thing. I couldn't hear her over the music. She has a very breathy voice and an unusual accent and the music is very distracting. The dress is amazing and lovely though! I can't imagine making a dress so quickly! She has mad sewing skills! 😍

Thank you, this couldn't have been better timed. My daughter wants this style as her wedding dress and I intend using the lockdown to design, cut and sew it. I have the basic bodice pattern but wasn't sure if I needed to add gore's on all the seams or whether it was cut to the full width of the fabric, am guessing 150cm wide. Now I know and can happily order fabric and start the dress. I can't say enough thank yous for this, perfect timing.

Love to hear that the scraps go to quilters! In the 1990s, I saw a wonderful quilt exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and my favorite quilt was made from millinery felt scraps in a beautiful graphic design layout that looked modern, even though it was over a century old.

I made a Burgundian gown in a day a few years ago, and it was all your fault! XD I had been invited to the Renaissance festival, but needed a suitable "Court-worthy" gown that I could make in less than a week. Due to work and other circumstances, I finished it the morning of. My inspiration? An un-credited photo of your original Burgundian gown from Pinterest, which sent me down the rabbit hole of finding more of your work.

I love this period in fashion; the Burgundians were known throughout Europe as having the most sophisticated, fashionable court ever pre-Renaissance. Jacquetta of Luxembourg is known to have brought many of the fashions of that court with her when she arrived in England and ended up marrying Sir Richard Woodville. Your gown has a beautiful cut to it and lovely fabric! Well done.

Hey, can you do more on what children/adolescents would wear? I think it'd be interesting to see how their clothing differentiated from the adults of the time.
@biblicallyaccuratecockroach3 жыл бұрын
Once they outgrew the baby dresses (yes, even the boys would wear dresses as babies) their clothing was pretty similar to adults. The underpinnings were less structured for girls than women because, of course, they did not have much to support, and they recognized the importance of not restricting their development, but other than that they were basically mini adults, their clothes often made from cloth reused from older clothing. I know sometimes some difference in the lenght of skirts of the girls or pants of the boys was sometimes taken into account but it's not consistent throughout history. Modern "dedicated" children's clothes is indeed a very modern concept.
@priorattire3 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I am not interested in children. For a video I would have to get a child model, make bespoke garments and then shoot- might do it ( and I have done it in the past) when such a garment is commissioned bespoke but since I have no interest otherwise I’d ra the r spend whatever free time I have making garments I am interested in... sorry!
