1 dead in Manhattan parking garage collapse

A least one person was killed and several others injured as a parking garage in downtown Manhattan collapsed, authorities said.

I'm constantly seeing buildings and bridges like this, with obvious code violations, and nothing is done. Something easily preventable, but only ends in this. Happened in Florida too with that apartment building.

Yep. Property owners are throwing up buildings fast and quick all over the united states. Existing structures are not maintained nor properly inspected. You are seeing this all over the world tbh. Remember the 40 story residential building in Europe that burned people alive in their sleep because they didn’t use fire retardant building materials as required by fire safety codes in order to save money.. or those interstates collapsing in China because contractors are not using rebar in order to save on costs.. greed is absolutely corrosive.

A lot of infrastructure in the USA is old. The cost of constructing new infrastructure is way too high, and no one's maintaining the exisiting one. Of course, such incidents are bound to happen.

Everything is falling apart because of greed. (Us working class people included) This is horrific and completely preventable. NBC Today this morning ran a story about the benefits of child labor which was just passed in yet another state. They then sold merchandise with their segments and told us why the economy is doing so well then told us shows to watch and movies to go see. Concerts to go to. Trips to take. All these channels are owned by the same tiny shrinking group of billionaires who hold world governments hostage with their fiat money. (No longer based on anything real like gold). It’s a rigged game and as it concludes in its final stages, we will see more of this before it gets better. (If it does. It’s up to all of us.). ABC/Disney NBC/Comcast. CBS/Universal/Paramount. It’s all basically Larry Fink. He manufactured the housing crisis of 2008 and he’s doing again but across the globe. Our media is gaslighting us. The train derailments are up to 3 a day!

This happens already with regular vehicles. The average EV weighs 2.5 times the average ICE vehicle, I wonder how much more often we'll being seeing this. Tesla's EV semi already has to plan special routes around some bridges just because it weighs so much more ICE semi's.

Built in 1925 more than most likely poured in place concrete so no structural steel needed all rebar, it was probably way past it’s functional lifespan it was certified for parking cars in 1957 all parking structures take a terrible beating from live and static loads of vehicles to rain,snow,heatwaves and freezing weather hell even bird droppings erode concrete and steel for that matter

Our infrastructure is NOT built to last. Our money desperately needs to be put toward this. These are our civilians lives, unnecessarily gone. Every hospital has a parking garage. - filled with specialists, and of course everyone is irreplaceable. Please please read up on this and if you can, advocate to your local electives. Electric car batteries weigh much more than the standard…with more on the road this will be more and more common
