For our international friends: 1 USD is about 16,000 Rupiah, the reason why it could be that “cheap” because the cost of transportation is much cheaper due to close proximity to natural resources, which is everywhere. Indonesia is a very fertile land so farms are available everywhere throughout the country, while countries like USA for example need to deliver their goods hundreds of miles away, hence the need of preservation. Also labor cost in Indonesia is cheaper due to this. Other factors involved too but not for me to say. Lower overhead what cause it to be cheaper, cost of goods, labors and land they occupy. The goods is cheaper due to less gas need to be used to deliver it.

What? Why overcomplicate things. It's simply because the IDR is weak compared to USD. Indonesia is a poor country with a weak currency. 1 USD isn't even cheap when compared to the local buying power. It's slightly above average. You can find nasi goreng that costs 12000 IDR, which is roughly 0.78 USD, easily in many places.

Ahhh, MSG, it's not a complete authentic Asian fried rice without monosodium glutamate! But those are not left over rice tho. But it's forgiven since there's no way they can keep that many leftover rice without it spoiling. LOL
