Great video and so important. A high-level hockey player told me that skating is a one-legged/one-foot activity! We use both legs but how good we are on one foot in brief moments dictates how good of a skater we are or can become.

Ditto. Pretty much every skill above amateur depends on independent feet. Hell, even braking without fishtailing requires this. And in an urban environment you've got to be ready to instantly shift all your weight to one foot and keep it there as long as the situation demands. Muscle memory covers this, but only after you've hammered it into your legs consciously. Which is why Bill is great. Nothing motivates the practice like seeing what it can produce.

Awesome tips Bill, as always. I’ve been focussing a lot on this lately and it feels great. For me, and as you mention here, it’s the key to unlocking a more complete stride. The rocker helps tremendously. 👍

Thanks Bill, this is also a great foundation skill for wizard moves,I practice this every time I skate mostly because I love doing it and feel it helping me. If still weak on the one foot balance do it with a toe roll ( toe wheel on the ground )with rear skate and the front skate flat on the ground then gradually lift the rear toe wheel off the ground.

I've been using this technique for a while now after watching your videos. It's been working out really well. Do you have any helpful techniques doing this going backward?

Spot on. Forget the foot. Change your center of gravity and it has no choice but to follow.

I also want a jet pack. For one foot turns, especially on the outside edges it is worth watching figure skate drills.

Hi Bill, hip alignment is so important... even and especially in turns ... so true! And I agree that the exercise is so much fun ... and fantastic to show off! 😂 What we also do on the ice (as figure skaters) to generate more traction, so that we create enough power to go on and on until our leg muscles leave us, is to extend the free leg in the direction of travel - this means extending it forward and swinging it with purpose in or outwards! That's why the movement can also be called power pulls. That said, I'm also still working on the power of my power pulls on inlines, as asphalt comes with so much more friction...

Inline, the smallest of rockers makes a huge difference in power pulls. 1 or 2 mm, even just on the front wheel.

what wheels would you (and the comment section) recommend for someone new to inline skating, who wants to get into street skating? I've been skating for almost a year now with 84a rolls 84mm (8 wheel set up). I'm wondering, if I should try it softer wheels?

Just subscribed.. been watching a few weeks now and great motivation, I used to have bauer F2 back over 25 years ago... the liner was too thin, however with a good liner would have been great... it looks as though the Adapt is stress on your ankle however I am sure the trade-off would be more stress on your shin like a ski boot.. maybe there is a happy medium..
