I worked at a little game store in the mall back in high school and there was honestly nothing I loved more than cleaning up the pre-owned games and peripherals. Oddly satisfying.

I love this! I clean lots of old stuff, so I want to share some of my cleaning tips with other restorative cleaners 🙂 Simple Green is awesome to break up grunge, grease, and smoke, but it can leave a residue (the dissolved goo needs to be rinsed off). I usually follow up with a light wash of soapy water (Dawn dish detergent) and a rinse when possible. Another great degreaser is Dawn Powerwash - that's more expensive but works especially well on food grease and fats. Steam cleaners are your friend for hard plastics like cases and anything that can get slightly damp. By steam cleaner I mean like the Dupray kind. Gunk just melts off with water and wipes up - no chemicals needed. Guitar picks are good for cleaning in grooves. For keycaps, after I pull them, and after I test the particular caps to make sure they won't get ruined, soak in Efferdent (denture / retainer cleaner). This doesn't leave a residue like dish soap and is designed to break up fats and proteins. I have a 30yr old Model M IBM keyboard still going strong that I clean the keycaps on with this. Can also be used for most hard plastics. Always test a bit for color fastness especially if the keycap lettering is just printed on. Not for circuit boards, but for screens and stuff either 70% IPA or 90%+ diluted to ~50% with DISTILLED water. Fill a spray bottle. A few drops of Dawn. I use this on my eyeglasses, my motorcycle visors, monitors, everything. If you need to spot clean something fragile, there is a product called Rodico which is made by Bergeon. It's used by watchmakers on tiny watch internals. It's kind of like play-doh, leaves no residue, and will absorb oils. It's not a scrubbing agent, but if you need to get something off a fragile part it works well. Another weird thing to clean with is dishwasher soap. It's caustic on the skin, though. Also you'd be surprised what can go in a dishwasher for cleaning! RadJunk, for your shop you should really give a steam cleaner a try for the outside of cases and such (being careful of the label). Seriously, it will save you a lot of time and effort. I use the Dupray Neat at my house (which is a home model). They just came out with the Neat Plus which you can refill without waiting for it to cool. If it doesn't work out at the shop, can easily be used at home. Check out their site at dupray dot com They also have expensive commercial models, but I think that would be overkill for vidya. Love me some restorative cleaning! Cool shop, will stop in if I'm ever in the area so I can relive my Atari 2600 childhood (I'm 55).

Are you putting Simply Green inside on the board? Nice technique to ruin these games with some damage over time effects.
@RadJunk6 ай бұрын
The boards get cleaned with 91-99% isopropyl alcohol.

Take your negative crap elsewhere. These guys know what they're doing and atleast they clean the products unlike other stores

Just worry about polishing up your lackluster social skills. What you can do first is fix your easily hate-able poorly timed abrasive sarcasm.

You are very upset over Simply Green. Do you work for simply green? Are you heavily invested in simply green, maybe a large portion of your portfolio? I'm very sorry I hurt your feelings, maybe you can go write some cool raps about it.

Is a Wii retro now? ....tf?

Sort of? We sell everything from Atari to ps5 so it gets lumped in.

@@Hotsuma2711 I consider "retro" any console from the fifth generation and back, but not the Wii, not even the Dreamcast (which is the first console from the sixth gen).
@Hotsuma27116 ай бұрын
@LagrangePoint0 I basically allow retro to be anything that isn't supported in most regards. When you have adolescent and up gamers that never heard or played the console, it's getting pretty old. XD
