You take the count of the boxes from the side plane and multiply it by the number of rows on the back plane. You confirm that there aren't any spaces that are blank in the top view, and you do the math! Any answers other than that get into what if bullshit answers and those don't matter.

The box problem feels like it’s just over complicating what could be a simple problem. You could technically argue that there’s not enough info if you aren’t assuming that’s the rows are filled all the way through, which with the information given is a natural assumption that no one could really fault you for.

you cant know it, in this 7x3x3 rectangle, everything except the 12 (the 4 "L" shapes 3 times) on the back can be filled. think of what im about to say as coordinates (x,y,z) with the arrows to the (front, right, up) and that the "side" picture is from the right a possible answer could have only the entire back filled with cubes (x=1 filled) + the entire left side filled except these 4 blocks (z=1 filled - 4) + the entire floor filled (y=1 filled). that example would make 9(back) + 14(left side - 3 overlap with back) + 17(floor - 3 overlap with back -6 overlap with left[not 7 because 1 is already counted on overlap with back]), that would make 40 cubes. but you also can have the same scenario as before but with an extra block at (2,2,2) for example and it would make 41 blocks and still working. and that isnt nearly the only possibilities. the maximum amount of cubes is filling all cubes on x

Looking at the side view, the section that is 3 blocks tall is 4 blocks wide, 3x4=12, it is also 3 blocks wide, 12x3=36. The section that is 2 blocks tall is 2 blocks wide, 2x2=4, and 3 blocks wide, 4x3=12. The section that is one block tall is one block wide, 1x1=1, and 3 blocks wide 1x3=3. 3+36=39, 39+12=51, the trailer has 51 blocks.

It took me about an hour, but thinking though it, I came to the conclusion the maximum is 51 and the minimum is 23. This comes to an average of 37 So if this was an AP question, you’d say all of these things. “The maximum number of cubes is 51 and the minimum is 23, taking the average gives the answer 37.” Assuming you did the math right, and that you wrote every step you would get full points. I’ll reply to this comment so you can see my work.

(Take the total) 36+12+3= 51 Min: I used a cell shaded perspective to visualize the minimum, and KZbin doesn’t allow pictures, but I can explain the layers. Layer 1: 9 cells. Layer 2: 7 cells. ok, um if the only info you had was the back the answer would be 9 cubes. If you have only the top, the answer would be 21 cubes. Skipping a to it. Yeah at first the maths would say 51. But if I could remove 16 cubes and it wouldn't change the image used in the maths question. Because looking at the side of the trailer cubes. You don't know if that same 17 cube shape continues into the column/ row behind it. The first column/ row is obscuring the blocks behind it. And even if you were to look at it from the other side, you still wouldn't be able to tell if there are blocks missing. Because it would look identical. And you can’t tell if there are missing cubes or not. No matter if you are looking at it from behind or on top. Because all the cubes look the same no matter how high they are stacked or how many they are stacked. This maths question needs rows with different colours. To help discern the number of blocks there are without an estimation. That's the addition this math's question is lacking.
