@@alistairt7544, Racism in Australia is quite stronger against the Chinese. The negative news are hidden by the Aussie media. I have several Asian friends working over there and they feel the tension of racism and had been insulted in many occasions. So precaution is a must if you go there, specially in the bar and entertainment areas or late at night.

Not American, but Canadian here. The perceived lack of loyalty is pretty upsetting to me. My family has been Canadian for two generations. We have not had Chinese citizenship for two generations. Yet, my loyalty was questioned several times during my security clearance interview for a law enforcement job. Even if I wanted to sell classified documents, I wouldn't know who to contact.

My daughter’s mother-in-law living in Las Vegas during Covid was attacked and brutally injured at a local park while she was watching over her 3yr old grandson. Mine you, this woman weighed no more than 100 lbs with a very small body frame. Three people physically attacked her breaking her jaw, nose, cheek bone, left arm, and a collapsed lung. There’s no doubt in my mind that the xenophobia, bigotry, and ignorance has definitely escalated in our community’s.

The thing is, dual citizenship is allowed by America. It's China/Japan/Laos/Indonesia/Vietnam/Thailand/Singapore that don't allow dual citizenship. This notion of Asians being loyal to Asia shouldn't even be a concern in America where dual loyalty is completely legal.

In general it is, but not in the government where it depends on the particular job. Even there people argue it's racist to have any kind of standards whatsoever, and they always end up winning every argument and getting all their policies and lack of enforcing existing policies implemented for any reason.

I am South Asian, but not from India. My origin country is a violent, corrupt shithole full of religious nuts. I would give anything to be born Chinese, Korean, Japanese - I would devote all my time to language study and then move back to the motherland. I really think more East Asians should take their talents to Asia. Asians as a whole are the most credentialed and skilled workers after all…eventually the Anglo’s will notice.

I told my white South African intern once that as long as he didn't open his mouth, everyone would think he was the American and I was the foreigner. He thought that was both silly and tragic. My Chinese American family has lived in the US since the 1870s, arriving just before the Chinese Exclusion Act. My grandfather dodged the World War I draft, but my father earned the Purple Heart and a Congressional Gold Medal for his World War II combat service. During the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony there were a lot of speeches about Chinese Americans fighting for a country that didn't accept them. I'd fight for and die for the US if that ever became necessary, but I also know I'll never be accepted as a "real" American either despite my family having been in this country longer than a lot of white American families. That's just the way it is.

I enjoy your videos. I’m a Black American by the way. Your videos allow me to learn so much about a culture I had almost no exposure to until within the last four years. Ironically COVID isolation/lockdowns caused me to explore Asian TV/movie content which then caused me to sincerely commit to learn more about Asian culture and history. It has been refreshing to see Asian people just being themselves with all the various quirks, behaviors, humors and passions uniquely theirs. Let me say this to Asian-Americans. You are Americans and you do not have to prove anything to anyone! Your blood, sweat and tears also helped build this modern country we call The United States. I will take your side in any disputes about that! Just as I am learning to better recognize, understand and appreciate the myriad subcultures within the Asian diaspora I ask members of the Asian diaspora to do likewise for the Black community within America. We are so much more than rappers, athletes and hard-living inner impoverished city folks. Most of us are not living some version of street life. We are not some intellectually or genetically inferior subspecies of the human race. So I task the Asian-American community in particular to better understand this important neighboring/allied community. With our efforts during the Civil Rights struggles of the 1960s, we helped you get better access to the American Dream. If we work together instead of as competitors we can secure a future where the sense of belonging in America is never again defined through primarily White definitions and narratives.

13:10 I literally know one and he is only half (half Laos and half white). We probably clicked so easily, because I'm also mixed (half black and half white). The others are acquaintances that I've tried to get to know, but they're like "nah". To comment on the slur thing. Before COVID I was sitting in a Chinese restaurant waiting for my food once. These two white guys come in and one is drunk. They order and all of a sudden, the drunk guy starts throwing racial slurs at Ning (the guy behind the counter). I glared at his friend and stood up out of my seat. I reached my hand in my pocket and started to say, "Maybe you should tell your friend to wait in the car." Before I even said anything though, his friend looked me up and down. He then grabbed his friend and said, "let's just go bro". Ning said, "it happens all the time". I pinched my skin and told him, "I know".

My worst experiences w/ overt racism occurred in the 90’s, mostly near a certain part of town that had a reputation for being racist. I’ve heard racial slurs in passing since then, or yelled at me from a car. I haven’t felt true danger in a long time though. Mostly just micro aggressions, which I can’t always be 100% certain of. I see it online though. Fortunately, I’m around a lot of diversity both at work & college. I think me being introverted also lessens my chances of being around it.

First gen Chinese American here. I'm in Texas. Don't feel any Asian hate here, maybe during COVID some people did nut not me personally. If anything, I think Americans in general have an overly positive view of Asian Americans, most seem to think we are all mentally gifted, if somewhat nerdy, law a bidding and peaceful model citizens. I think the whole loyalty thing is a self fulfilling situation. The more we Asian Americans feel like we dont belong here, the more we crave the pop culture from Asia and then the rest of America sees us as not loyal and cycle continues and deepens. I personally have been teaching my kids to know that they are Americans first, but not hiding the fact that other Americans will us as Koreans and expect us to speak another language on top of English. No easy answers for us.

In my experience, I’ve met a lot of Asians who said they did not consider themselves American. They were a person from their home country that wasn’t America. I’m not sure how many people feel that way, but a number of my family members and people in my community have expressed this sentiment. Like my aunt used to say she was Filipina not American which is why she refused citizenship or I’m not sure what it was exactly. She didn’t vote. She didn’t do a number of things most Americans would because while she lived here she did not feel like she was part of here. Even when presented the choice to be part of here, she said no because she was Filipina first. Even after decades she still felt that way. She was legal because she was with my uncle who was a former (now retired) navy electrician. So, she had a green card, but I don’t think she ever agreed to be a full citizen. I don’t altogether understand what she meant when she voiced these sentiments. I only see the bits and pieces of the life she experienced. I do understand the Midwest was different to the other areas she had lived. There was more of an Asian presence in those areas vs The Midwest US is not like that. That might’ve been a source of the “other” feeling she had. Aside from her own home in the Philippines, my aunt and uncle also lived in Japan, California, and Hawaii. The younger people in my family do feel more connected to America, but I don’t know what/who they would choose if presented with such a choice.

You have to remember that the sentiments of Internet communities are not indicative of societal attitudes IRL. A lot of these online echo chambers are primarily comprised of either self-loathers looking to indulge in their own imagined grievances, or racist trolls looking for an outlet to channel their prejudices without fear of tangible consequence. Most people that you speak to in person won't treat you differently on the basis of your skin color, at least not in a country like the US. Being ignorant of the historical record, whether it be Asian or otherwise, is not necessarily a reflection of Asian prejudice or a lack of empathy towards Asians. Most people don't know (or care) about anything that isn't directly related to their day-to-day routine. It's not exactly surprising that the average person is equipped to name all of the Kardashians but is unable to recall the most important historical events. There's a giant distinction between "feeling victimized" and the actual statistical probability of being victimized. Violence perpetrated by a stranger towards another stranger is a statistical anomaly. People are most likely to be victimized by someone who is well known to them, such as their spouse or some other family member. Media sensationalism has done a profound disservice in amplifying our fear sensibility.

@@WingChunBoyz Thanks. China Town is a dangerous place - not just the crimes and all but the associations and imagery and spy rings from a autocratic central authority from another part of this earth, dealing with people there. Its alright to disassociate ourselves from a nation that almost everything has been hijacked by an entity that has almost nothing to do with it - ie. the concepts of Soviet international, a follower of something that has done 50% of unjust to Poland in WW2 and went unpunished. If you can already identify yourself as Austroasiatic, don't identify yourself as Sino-Tibetans. Its not about exclusiveness of the Chinese Culture. Its completely opposite - This place has 4 thousand years of recorded history doing whatever to ignore inter-country conventions, conquering and dominating whatever surrounds it until either a humylaya or ocean would block its access, destroying and exappropriating any customs or culture where it can go, and castrate any man warriors that they can capture.

Education system plays a big role. If being weak means you get attacked then tell me if 99.9% of women should not leave their homes since they are weaker than men. Asians being attacked is mostly happening in the US only. Cases in Europe and Latin are extremely rare. This goes back to violence, mental behaviors and upbringing

13:10 Nahhh in my experience it’s on Asians fault. I’m Mexican and Japanese and I never fit in and seen as a monster by AAPI community in Seattle and San Francisco. If you were half white or black they’d love you but me they discriminated me to the point of being ostracized in college. I am bitter towards it all and hate Cali for this.

I wish we could get to the point in this country of people assuming that an Asian is just an American. Why do blacks have to be referred to as African American and Asians as Asian American. We don't refer to white people as European American. Growing up I hated having to constantly prove my citizenship. Whites and blacks would ask me what are you or where do you come from? If I said a small town in Kentucky, they would say, no where are you really from? As an adult now, I wish I'd have just flipped it on them and ask them the same.

✋🏾 I'm guilty of askin Asian folks, where they from. But don't be offended.... it's just that I feel Asian-Americans are *waaaay more closer to their ETHNIC culture.* For example.... I'm African-American "Where am I from?" outside of sayin what CITY I'm from, I can't give you any answer. It's simple..... Asian-Americans know were they are from, that's why people ask them.

US seems like a crazy place to live. Not as bad here in Australia from when I came here in early 2000. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, cause I've experienced it too, but it was pretty rare, also it's more subtle racism, like they would talk shit behind people's backs. I knew some people that would say racist things about aboriginal people, how they're all on government checks and alcoholics, but never to their faces or I might get the odd old person giving dirty looks, so I can't in good faith say it's a rampant problem here. We tend to focus on and amplify our negative experiences, but I have met way more nice people that bad in my experience.

it ain't surprising. That's why the majority of STEM students, who are from Asia, aren't staying in America anymore. They'll get maybe less of a brute pay in Asia but they'll also get to enjoy a lower cost of living. Look at who's doing all the hard lifting in STEM, especially math related programs. It's literally all Asians. Show some respect, maybe?

7:57 I can already guess the ethnicity of the guy based on the complete exclusion of it and the general description of the behavior. 🤣 If it was just a random attack I'd guess the class of the person rather than ethnicity, but since it was ethnically targeted I'm going to have to profile the guy in my imagination. Sorry that happened though. Personally, I only live/go places where that's statistically unlikely to happen. I'm half-white so people think I look Hispanic or vaguely Italian-ish anyway, so it's a bit different for me. It's like I have the same baggage against these people from being Asian myself, but they can't tell, so in my case the animosity is just unidirectional from me to them while I slide under the radar.
