Hey Sandman, I really enjoyed your review so much that I subscribed and went to the Jimy Longs site to order all 4 sets. You seemed super impressed, and I thought I should add them to my collection. The problem is they're are sold out of all 4 sets, bummer. I can only quess that due to your review the demand went through the roof. Ok I really was a little disappointed however, your review was pretty good. Thanks from WV.

Hey, I am also very impressed with your reviews. I have also subscribed to your channel, and next payday I intend to order the hook sets from Jimy Longs as well. I am a big fan of using a medium hook for picking, but typically I wind up breaking them near the tip. So I am curious to see how well these do. Breaking the tips is my fault, due to nerve damage in both my shoulders and wrists I can’t “feel” how much pressure I am using with the pick, nor can ai tell which pin I am picking. Trying to learn how to adapt to that.
@sandman_locksport Жыл бұрын
@@robertl.grayjr.nremt-p994 thanks for watching and subscribing. I’m sorry to hear about your shoulder. Jimy picks are the strongest in the market. They won’t break on you. Have you tried Lishi tools? They are delicate, but, they tell you what pin your on. Also, if you take a scribe or a fine tip permanent marker, you can draw lines on your picks, to show you which pin your on. We call that “mapping” in Locksport. Give that a try with your Jimy picks. Use a maker though, not a scribe. Because different locks have different pin spacings.

@@sandman_locksport awesome idea! I love picking locks, and for some odd reason, it calms me. I have several masterlock model 19's, and when my new picks that I just ordered come in, I am going to start practicing again. Have quite a few locks in my " naughty bucket" ( term from Bosnian Bill, I sure miss his videos!), and I will keep practicing until I can pick all of them!

I finally pulled the trigger and bought both flat hook sets. I love these, you weren't kidding! I've been kind of a Peterson's man (though I also own other picks too) but I think these might just take the cake, at least for standard hooks types. The handles are super comfortable, the picks are nice and long (I have somewhat large hands), and they're so much more affordable to boot. I also like their flat hook tip profile just a hair better, less chance of bumping an adjacent pin in a small core w/o having to resort to a rounded tip.

He sells a diamond and gem set now, two in each thickness. I just got mine and only had to trim off about two picks of extra material. I do the same with Sparrows and cut off anything on the shaft back to the handle shoulder. i don't do polishing so a bit of trimming gives me a bit of joy. They currently will cost a Canadian viewer $8 a pick and well worth it with the handle.

Sandman what is the advantages or disadvantages of a flat tip pick and a round tip? Seems like a flat tip would lift pins better without slipping off? THANKS
@sandman_locksport Жыл бұрын
personal preference. thats it. sometimes, there are high security pins like medeco that have very pointy bottom key pins, and it would be very hard to use a diamon, gem, or rounded hook on a sharp key pin, so a flat hook is best. but you lose some feedback and sensitivity with a flat hook in my opinion, it has more surface area, but do you know exactly what pin you are on, or if the pin is exactly in the middle of that flat hook before you lift it? with a rounded or gem style hook you will know 100%. its just preference of feeling, and nothing more. some really amazing pickers use just a flat hook. most beginners use a flat hook too. some amazing pickers use gems and diamonds and rounded hooks. its all preference. i use flat hooks for tight, paracentric keyways, and i use peterson gem style profile, similar to a half diamond 90% of the time. i personally dont like the feeling of a rounded hook, but they are more popular among pick makers. so it is more common in the community.

One set of Jimy Longs or one set anywhere? I prefer to use the .019” Gem style half diamond from Jimy Longs, but I would never suggest that to someone new. I can’t suggest Jimy Longs to a new person because he doesn’t sell tension wrenches either. I currently recommend the Genesis pick set from covert instruments. It’s best in class for the money. And it’s made of the same steel as these. Both are great picks but as of Dec 2023, jimy longs doesn’t sell a set with turning tools or a beginner set.

@@wehttamak I would recommend the Echelon Pick Set by Covert Instruments all day long for your budge which is between $50-$100. There are only 4 manufacturers making 301HY picks, and 2 making 420SS, and NONE of them have a set under $75, except for covert instruments. The echelon is all you need at your budget.

I bought 4 sets of Jimylongs picks (round and flat) in 2022 when they were only available in 0.019 and the low profile pick was still a dream. Jimylongs was offering LPU members a great introductory price at that time so I bought 4 sets with the intention of giving away 3 sets as gifts to my locksport friends. I have given away 2 sets so far and each person who received a set of these Jimylongs picks has been very impressed by them (as have I). There is only 1 problem...I want to order all of his new pick sets so that I can have a complete current set of Jimylongs picks - lmao

Started picking a couple of years ago and just heard of Jimy via Reddit a few days ago. Ordered a set of hooks today after all the fanfare and I'm really looking forward to using them. Bummer news about Peterson; I just got a "Happy Hooker" set to grow into after I'm done with the introductory picks I got. They seem good quality, but I've not used them yet, and one of the tensioners had a horrifically rough and slightly-crooked edge along one side. We'll see how they fare. In the meantime, I missed the bus on the JL 0.6mm flat hooks, but I got me two of everything else. I'll fill the gap when they're back in stock. I sure hope Jimy can continue making these, considering all the glowing reviews. I appreciate folks in the community sharing their experiences. It helps. =)
