We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life- 2 this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us- 3 we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. Love how poetic the intro is. Similar to gospel of John Love how John lets everyone know from the beginning that these aren't his thoughts about how to live but he is declaring this Eternal Life that's connected to the Father and he has heard, seen and touched. Love how straightforward the whole book is.

Thank You Pastor Darren, for this Wonderful, and self discerning Word. Thank You for explaining this passage so clearly and insightfully. How truly important it is for all of us to be sure that we remain in the light, as God the Father is light, as is his Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. How carefully we need to be, to make sure we do not view our salvation as trivial, but through Christ, our very eternity is at stake, and whether it will be an eternity in heaven with God, or in hell without God. With that, why would we ever wish to risk anything that could jeopardize our being with God forever.

Seems pretty obvious that John is speaking, at least in part, to Jews who are not in the Fellowship of Believers. That is, they claim to be in fellowship with GOD because they are Jews, but they need the gospel of Eternal life and the purification in Christ’s blood preached to them. John also makes sure to say the Fellowship they have is with God AND Jesus. Isaiah 9:2 the people walking in darkness have seen a great light. God gave Israel a spiritual blindness wherein they walk in the darkness even today.

How are we able to be sure that we have come to KNOW Jesus? 1 John 2:3-4 says 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. So, the Bible clearly says that whoever says they KNOW Him but does not keep His commandments(plural) is a LIAR!! Plain and simple. You do not know Him, but I know Him. If I said I did not know Him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know Him, and I keep His word. The gospel that is taught to many people today has been reduced down to just "faith alone". This false gospel of "faith alone" has made following the commandments of Christ null and void. Obeying His commandments have been eliminated from the gospel and have been made subsequent and optional to salvation. Walking in the Spirit has been made optional as well. This false gospel of "faith alone" changes what Jesus said in Matthew 7:14 - For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Instead of following the biblical teaching on salvation in Christ, they follow this false gospel which tells them that they can be saved by "faith alone", apart from having to keep the commandments of Christ. By teaching that we do NOT need to keep the commandments(plural) of Christ as the gospel, the saving power of the gospel has been neutralized. The end result is that millions of people have been deceived by the devil's masterpiece into thinking they have eternal life in Christ when they actually do not.
