Nice build Tj... Jhh machined my 4m40t back in the day, I did pretty much the same type of build on it, shafted the balance shafts and balanced the motor, ported the head and turbo also, then added water meth injection..... (don't forget that ;)

In the same boat as you Macca. Been a sparky for years, working for my self, but have always loved engines. Been playing with them since I was 12 and still would love to get into them a lot more than I do now. Keen to see how the 3litre goes for you. Only thing I don’t like is that the fuel lines are under the rocker cover. Don’t know you have a leak until the engine runs away from too much diesel leaked into the oil. But not a common issue.

Great work team, the 1KD is great we've had a couple. Regularly serviced & looked after you'll get a zillion Kms out of it. We had 2 x 1KZ (different vehicles), not as refined & a bit thirstier, got nearly 1M Kms out of one. Servicing is everything imho. Thanks as always legends the vid quality is epic as per usual. 🤌🙏✌️

A 1KZ would be more straightforward to swap (and cheaper to maintain due to being an indirect injection), given that Surfs already featured the 1KZ OEM in the 92-95 models, but the better power and fuel economy of the D4D 1KD is nice too.

Gee I wish I knew this before I sold my pride and joy 92 hilux due to it using more fuel whilst loosing power after 15 years of reliability, I still miss the old girl I had owned 😢 since new, the only thing that confused me you say it is a 1992 but the 92 model was the second year of the 2.8 diesels

Ah bugger! Yes its actually a 92 model toyota surf that has been cut down into a ute! I beleive this is why it has a 2.4 2lte as its a surf not a ln106!

Good choice! You could highly modify it, however a 1KZ rear sump is the easier option and also needs a trim for maximum up travel! The boys will have all this available as a conversion once tjs is finished to!

Cheeky fact for you Macca, there’s actually no such thing as N70s and N80s. They’re KUNs and GUNs. Little fact I figured out the other day. Nowhere is it listed by Toyota about them being an n70 or n80. Love your work

Hi greg, you can however you will need a tune afterwards. An engine of that much use i would be hesitant to start doing performance mods if you wanted to keap going to that 500xxx kms mark!
