Not true. In 2027. There will be an extra 6.7% tax on gasoline. So not near triple. Also the individual countries can change their taxes on gasoline to revert the EU tax. Boosted magazine is 90% made up content, and not a trustworthy source. Most of their articles are actually false claims about EV’s. Like their recent article about EV fires has doubled in Denmark (from 1 to 2j but they do not mention how many EV’s we got (more than doubled) and that there are so few that statistics are inaccurate with that low number of fires.

But anyway, it wouldn't make any difference if it was 6% or 600%. The fact is they will probably come up with an excuse to delay the rules before then. Most likely, the excuse will be Chinese EVs are still too strong. Europe can't compete.

The bad thing is, that it is an EU tax. Slowly on they are bringing in collecting taxes. In that way the wealthy countries are going to pay the badly performing countries. Here in Holland we have 1500 billion euros pension money. That will disappear when the EU is going to collect taxes. Time to leave the EU and the euro

Since getting my Tesla MYLR, my spending to power my car has gone from ~$257 a month for gas power my car to ~$69 a month for electricity to power my car. My electricity comes from nuclear power and solar, and costs $0.13 per kilowatt, regardless of when I charge. I have two drivers in my household using this car and we use the car every day making at least two trips around the city to do various tasks each day. The difference, and the savings, are huge. And as a bonus, this is the most fun to drive car I have ever had, even better than the sports car I had when I was younger.

Fair enough, and huge savings were also made by the early adopters for Diesel cars when they came out because Diesel was really cheap. However, this isn't the case any more, and it's because of Tax more than anything else. I agree that using electricity for Cars is going to be cheaper than fuel oil, because the end to end efficiency is so much better. However, don't kid yourself that this initial low cost is going to last, because Tax revenue falling in fuel oils will have to be transferred to EVs. It will still be cheaper, but it will never be cheaper than it is right now.

I did some calculations 6 months ago on how much oil is not needed each day due to EV adoption. It came out to 1,000,000 barrels a day. It just so happened that Saudi Arabia reduced its output by 1,000,000 a day at the same time to keep prices high. As EV adoption accelerates, it will continue to reduce the amount of Oil needed, pushing down the price of Gasoline and Diesel. So I think Brussels will struggle to double the price of fuel for its citizens. They are no longer Serfs that must do whatever their Masters tell them to do.
@kalebdaark100
@kalebdaark100 3 күн бұрын
You might well be correct. But there's another thing to consider which may or may not effect fuel price. We, humans globally, have already extracted most of the easy to extract oil. It's costing more and more money to extract what is left. It's also using more and more energy to extract the oil. There's a professor from Edinburgh University called Alister Hamilton who's run the numbers and his conclusion was that oil extraction around the world will use more energy to extract than it provides by the end of the 2030's. Now I'm not expert, so for all I know he could be talking rubbish, but if he's not, as the information starts sinking in, governments may be forced to stop people using oil for frivolous things like personal transport. Governments usually reduce use of a thing with tax.

It's clear that government initiatives are propelling the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs); otherwise, their market penetration would be negligible. Children have been illegally used in many different industries over the years, its not the fault of the products produced, its the fault of the mine operators and the governments involved not enforcing child labour laws. I felt 3 to 5 minutes was unrealistically quick. The average price of petrol is €1.89 a litre. The UK average for petrol is around £1.49 or around $1.39. The headline Tax rate on standard petrol and diesel is 52.95 pence per litre, it has been frozen since 2011-12 and it reflects a temporary 5 pence cut introduced in 2022-23 and subsequently extended to 2023-24 and 2024-25. So an increase to $4 US is £3.19 or if $4 Australian £2.11. Prices did hit over £2 a litre with the start of the Ukraine war, but have reduced. It is anticipated the new government will look at reintroducing high fuel taxation has an incentive to increase electric vehicle transition. This is likely to be the reintroduction of the 5 pence first, then increased at each budget. Though a large single profit tax is expected on oil/gas companies within the first year. So a £2 litre by 2030 or before is highly likely, has part of the reintroduced vehicle transportation strategy.

Ireland has high proportion of diesel cars, because previously road tax encouraged people to switch from petrol to diesel. People are already getting annoyed with anti-diesel measures as they were previously told it was greener than petrol (lower CO2 emissions). I find this hard to believe , $4-00 liter for fuel. This just can't be right , people in Europe will rebel against this . I live in perth Western Australia , and i am thinking of buying a second hand EV for one of my kids to use to go to uni . Second hand EV's are so cheap right now . The only problem with Western Australia , we have the most expensive electricity in the world and there is just no infrastructure to charge EV's , never will be because no body can afford to buy it . My neighbours charge there EV's during the day so they are using power from there roof solar panels, other wise it is to expensive . .Rather than buying from the government supplier Western Power . My power bill evin with solar panels is around $1,100 Aus dollars [ so that would be $740 US dollars ] every 2 months . scarey . 3 kids and a wife . Electricity here is so expensive and it only keeps going up. The reason i say this is because when electricity gets that expensive , if you buy a new Mazda 3 with the new high tech engine which gets 49 miles to the gallon , well the cost of running a Mazda 3 is very close to running an EV on electricity . Which is kind of crazy as our electricity supply is generated from Coal and Gas . So in Western Australia because our power is so dear , if you want to save the environment buy ICE that gets 49 miles to the gallon .

Cities generally have good public transport infrastucture. I live in teh rural wild west of wales , so no public transport to speak of. £1.48 a liter in UK for Diesel

Yep, just calculated my old diesel would be costing me 10p per mile, while my EV (not a fancy one) it’s is 2p per mile - that’s real world data not book figures. Petrol would have worse figures than diesel. Yet I am still told it costs more to fill my EV compared to diesel. 🤷‍♂️ I’ve saved more money in the last four years driving an EV than if I had got a petrol car, even though an EV is more expensive and the depreciation is higher. All I care about is how much money it costs me each year (including servicing, repairs and dividing up the cost of the car over the years owned). EV is a clear winner. I run my cars until they have to go, so depreciation after three years is not relevant to me - in fact it keeps the cost of my insurance down.

It wouldn't matter by then, because by the time we get to that, the value of oil will be little to none in that most of us won't need it. But in the end, higher prices on fossil fuels is a good thing for killing that industry off sooner rather than later as renewables keep getting better and cheaper. If the fossil industry were smart, they really need to slash prices with the aim of extending their life another decade or two, but personally, I'm grateful they are trying to push the price up, whiles trying to price fix, as that will help to kill there industries off sooner rather than later, and in the case of Europe, fuel cost is already more expensive than many other parts of the world because of taxes on it, but that encourages a bigger push away from fossil fuels towards cleaner energy sources. The fossil industry might have 2 decades left at the most where after that, the downwards pressure on the price point will be immense thanks to how cheap renewable energy is, and more so as the world shifts to EV cars and heat pump, basically, going all electric and reducing the need for oil and gas, as we can generate electric by many other means like renewables. History has also shown that when the fossil industry tries to push prices up and try to control the price, it usually ends up favouring the renewable industry as more investments happen. The Irony is, China is probably doing the most damage when it comes to the fossil industry, mainly because of how aggressive they are on pushing renewable energy on both the tech and pricing, that's followed by the EU and the US, so in the end, let the fossil industry play there games with trying to fix and push up prices at a time when alternative clean energy is getting cheaper, it's only going to end badly for the fossil industry sooner rather then later.

Petrol costs about £1:50 in England ($1:75) per litre. Given a barrel of oil costs $80 and each barrel contains 160 litres - this means unfractionated oil costs $0.50. Assuming distilling the oil costs $0.10 per litre - this means the actual petrol costs $0.60. Assuming distribution is another $0.05 and profit per litre is $0.10 This gives a grand total of $0.75 or £0.60 and the rest of the price at the pumps is TAX. So tax is £0.90 or $1 Governments will not survive if they triple this. They know this ……so Sam you’re wrong.

It does take ALOT of batteries and panels to store enough power to charge EV’s. One EV battery can take up to 80kw to charge. That would take a 12 - 20kw solar system all day to produce. If it needs to charge multiple EVs per day, and also split some of that energy to directly charging EV’s and some to charging the batteries in the charging station, then it’s going to need an absolutely massive solar array to keep up with demand. It IS possible, but an absolutely absurdly expensive proposition.

I expect EV adoption will exponentially increase, with silicone anode technology for example pushing vehicle ranges over 600 miles. Where will that leave Oil and Gas suppliers when they suddenly realise their sitting on fuel reserves which are about to become worthless? And the higher these O&G cartels allow fuel prices to rise, the quicker their customers switch to EVs, my guess fuel prices will gradually reduce and O&G companies will reduce their margins, eventually having to dump all the fuel they can on the market before it becomes worthless.

The advantages probably outweigh the disadvantages especially since the demand for EV cars has slumped in many parts of the world so new incentives will have to come to encourage people to make the transition but there's flipsides to it too if fuel prices rise too quickly and one is it will impact businesses like taxi companies, postal workers, milk delivery men, other sole traders who provide delivery services and public transport will be hit too, so this would suffice to fuel general inflation which could be one of the many consequences so for now it would be best to augment fuel prices on a gradual bases and give decent tax rebates to people who make a first purchase of an EV

There really is no reason to drive a combustion engine any more, even if the so-called conservatives or the eternally yesterday claim the opposite and can't prove it. Especially in Germany, range anxiety is a pure narrative fiction and the 1500 km that you supposedly have to and can drive with a diesel are devoid of any reality. @@robertgreen9614 a quick google shows me this is BS. ICE cars are 17-21% efficient at converting fuel into motion, this doesn't factor in the energy cost of converting Cruise into Petrol/Diesel. EVs are 85 to 90% efficient at turning their stored power into motion. Renewables are also about 4X more efficient than Fossil Fuels at generating power and currently account for 30% of global power production. Transmission accounts for max 2% loss in efficiency, so 98% of power gets to where it needs to go. There will also be some wasted energy in heat of components, say 20% of what makes it to it's destination, so around 80% will reach a vehicle, slight losses of storing power, but when Renewables are constantly generating energy when ambient sources like Solar and Wind are present this isn't an issue, unlike the finite presence Fossil Fuels have, once they're gone they are gone and of course they leave behind far more harmful effects than lovely, clean renewables!

@@robertgreen9614 i skipped physics class? I think you did. Obviously by what you wrote you have almost zero understanding of energy use and transformation. Travel 200 miles on an ICE car and the same distance on an EV, at the end of the trip park them next to each other, pop the hood, you know all that heat coming from the engine block, the radiator with hot water, the hot water hoses as well as your brake rotors, that's all energy being wasted in the form of heat, now do the same in the EV, find anything that's hot in it, almost nothing. That's how you can easily tell how much more efficient and EV is at using energy. Last year it cost me around $620 to power my Tesla model 3 for the entire year. An ICE car would have cost me around $2k. A hybrid around $1k. My solar panels provide around 93% of my energy needs. Fossil fuels will die in 10 years or less as they will eventually be unable to compete with solar. The only thing keeping them alive now is misinformation and disinformation and FUD being pumped to people at alarming rates to keep them ignorant and buying ICE vehicles and not installing solar in their houses. And you are a perfect example that those misinformation campaigns work.

you would include the price of the solar panels on this calculation as they are not free.

So what are people to do that can't afford a new car ev or gas but have to keep their old gas car

Get poorer and our government will only subsidize really expensive EV's for wealthier people. They will tax Chinese EV's at a high rate so you can't get an affordable one.

They’re supposed to sell their old ICE car now while they still can and buy a cheap used EV.

Struggle, there is global transfer of wealth from the middle class to the super wealthy. These are the consequences.

Gas cars are very expensive to own. If you are poor then you should be looking at cheaper alternatives (eg. buy a used EV like I did).

I agreed with Dick Smith when petrol on Oz should be $10/litre. I hope fossil fuels get phased out before that.

I think that more EV'S will take pressure off of gasoline. Thus getting cheaper. Might take awhile.

They'll come up with an excuse to delay the rules before then. Most likely, the excuse will be Chinese EVs are still too strong. Europe can't compete.
