Most of the Beef you buy in a big box store comes from a HUGE Corporation, but what if you could help the environment AND your local community by buying your beef locally?
One man in Helena, MT has just such a vision. Let's hear what Cole Mannix is doing to bring back the local community with Local Beef!

Astounding that less than 1.5% of beef consumed in Montana comes from Montana farm! Every state needs to support its residents for obvious reasons..... As should our country. I could not imagine Cole's vision not becoming successful especially with this type of awareness. Great video! I wish & pray Cole with much success in his endeavor. Btw - those burgers looked DELICIOUS - Those were generous portions!

In the last three trips I have taken to my small town Montana Albertsons chain, I have purchased beef from Brazil and New Zealand. I am SURROUNDED by cattle and they are delivering beef to my town from New Zealand. Now find out where your lumber comes from if you'd like to really come unglued.

The Mannix ranch isnt too far from my old stomping grounds...I remember The Gold Bar and Bert & Ernies...and Ive even met Trin a time or two. I hope that makes me local enough to tell you all that this co-op/idea is EXACTLY what this state needs and Ive been hearing people cry out for it for years. Here's hoping the timber industry can take note of your success and start selling (processing.creating) Montana timber to Montanans. Best of luck in your future, Cole...and thanks for the video, Trinity.

I know a couple people that do direct from them after you buy a "share" of the cow to get around the inspection process. The hardest part is some people don't have enough money for 1/3 1/2 or a full cow and or they don't have enough freezer space to store that much beef or they simply don't know about them. A lot of it just comes down to educating the people on the availability of other better options.

What a brilliant idea Old Salt have and are enacting. Here in Australia we are dominated by Woolworths and Coles who serve us 2nd and 3rd rate meat, most of which originated from JBS. No one can tell you where the beef originated from. We need this same system here in Australia. Consumers here just don’t seem to care enough about where their beef comes from.

i think the biggest issue the average person has is: a limited budget to cover all expenses. when you portion out a part of your income for groceries a monthly salary will cover one month's worth of food for let's say 3 meals a day. depending on how many you are feeding depends on the amount of food you can buy AND the quality of that food. i would love to eat a fine cowboy cut steak or prime rib or even beef ribs with actual meat on it instead of mostly bone but my budget will not allow it. i am rich and i'm not poor but i'm retired and unable to work now. so every year everything front rent to taxes on everything to utilities etc goes up far more than the low percentage increase of the retirement. the better the beef, the better the service etc the more you have to pay for it. there is a solution to giving the buying power to the consumer but a lot of people will whine and cry and you need a leadership who puts the consumer first. i remember a time many decades ago when a few grocery store chains tried to cut their budget and sold meat without telling consumers what they were eating: cat meat sold for rabbit; kangaroo for beef; and more. there was outrage when consumers found out and they were punished. now with no buying power they're selling consumers fake meat and garbage parts and the consumer doesn't say a word to complain and they buy and it eat. what i hear in your video is the rancher trying to get back to an earlier time in quality of meat. now if we can just get the buying power back into the consumers' hands we'd have a good food system again. i follow a lot of homesteaders who grow their own produce and meats. good for them and i understand why. well just me thinking out loud. again, a very informative video trinity. thanx!!!!

10:06 i feel the man statements is so important. I live in southern Oregon, In our small community we value local beef. We pay about $8.-$9./lb. For ground beef. Though the price is high for the lowest end beef product, We do value the quality of what we eat. We are very particular about the quality of food we eat. We are a farming community. We tend to eat more chicken because, as talked about here, We are more likely to know the source of the chickens. Even with eggs, We tease that we need to know the chicken b4 we eat the eggs. Thank you for pursuing the gaint corporate companies. As said in the begining of the video, The culture is sad when the focus is on cheap.....

I absolutely love this! My dream is to finish veterinarian school and move to Montana to work as a livestock and exotic vet while also maintaining a small little homestead for myself. I really want to have a small little herd of dairy goats to make my own cheese and butcher the wethers for my boyfriend and dogs to eat (I actually don’t eat meat which is the funny thing). I want ducks for eggs and meat and of course I can’t leave my horses behind! I really hope that one day soon the vast majority of people start getting more and more connected with their food.

Definitely send comp coolers to Montana utube channels. Fast ag Montana and Welker Farms monthly in exchange for uploading tours of coop farms, restaurants, processing inspecting, packaging and shipping or cooking. Offer the channels an order discount code to track purchases and use marketing funds to sponsor there channels. Man with social media replacing cable this is timed perfectly.

Actually any meat, dairy, produce that's sold anywhere in the country has to have the country of origin stamped on it. That's part of the usda and fda. They have to be able to trace whatever is being sold just in case there a bad batch of product. There's been several recalls done over the yrs and it's been from several producers with it be meat, dairy, produce, can goods whatever. If you're going to put something out on the internet get your facts straight and tell the truth as to tell a bunch of BS and get people all rialed up. I drove semi for 20 yrs and outta that 20 yrs 17 of it was pulling a refrigerated trailer. I picked up some of those loads coming in from Chile, Brazil or wherever. Most of the imported meats are shipped to the east coast and sold through odd ball grocery chains and or processors that sale that meat to restaurants, convince stores and what have you. I've even picked up imported fish. And honestly probably 75% of any seafood is imported. There's no cod that's caught in the U.S. controlled waters just for the fact that it's been fished out and there's a ban on catching them, same for several others seafood. Even if you were to buy frozen seafood it has to have country of origin on the package.

Don’t know about anything but beef. The USDA USED to require Country of origin labeling, but several years ago it was removed. I think by Congress, although I am not sure. So now companies DO actually import beef, package it in the US and then label it as US. Country of Origin labeling was a very good thing that needs to be re-implemented.
@lstone.09
@lstone.09 8 ай бұрын
@LifeintheWest it's still in place today. Actually most that's imported is actually sold in high-end restaurants and retailers. The standards on it are actually harsher than they are for u.s. companies. I do know that a huge bulk of beef is brought in through Houston TX
