Mine tanked at 498k miles because that plastic piece of crap spun the bearings and wrecked the crank shaft

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we are sorry for the loss of your engine; this is why we recommend replacing the oil suction manifold and oil pick-up tube o-rings at 500k miles.

My DD15 made it to 1.1 miles and was still running good but was leaking like hell. Decided to rebuild. 1.3 miles at this moment.

That is definitely the weakest point on the DD13 and DD15, once Detroit switch over to the all plastic suction module or oil pick up tube things went SOUTH. The first design was a metal and plastic design and had fewer failures. Great video Adam

Acknowledging areas for potential improvement is crucial, and your insight adds valuable perspective to the discussion. By proactively addressing these components, drivers can prevent low oil pressure damage. While it may seem like an extra step, this proactive approach can save time and money by avoiding more significant repairs in the future.

Doesn't matter how good the engine is if the rest of the truck is trash. I dont want to spend hours listining to the interior rattle and squeak while driving. Or have to shove things in the air vents to keep them open. Or shove things between the side mirror glass and housing to stop them from violently shaking going down the road. Or debate with myself if using the washer fluid to clean the windsheild is worth it because the wipers are going to fling the dirt from the windshield onto the left side mirror. Ect ect...

@simuljustusetpeccator5547 6 hrs at $200.00 vs 2 hrs hellva big difference I'm gonna have to replace my air compressor and it's in the worst spot possible biggest cost is the damn labor and refilling of coolant and all the other stupid shit they decided to run coolant through on this DD15 garbage. DD15 is loved by mechanics because of the shop hrs required to work on this shit. 498k Miles the bottom end including new crank had to be replaced because of the faulty o ring and pickup tube on this pile of shit, as for torque not my truck it barely has enough torque to pull its ass out of a wet paper sack. Fuel economy sucks 6.5 mpg at 65 mph I I better than the cummins yea but barely

Thanks for sharing your perspective! While it's true that the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine has faced its share of criticisms and challenges, it's also important to acknowledge that reliability can vary depending on factors such as maintenance practices, driving conditions, and individual experiences. Many users have reported positive experiences with the DD15, highlighting its fuel efficiency, performance, and durability. However, like any mechanical component, occasional issues may arise. It's essential for owners and operators to follow recommended maintenance schedules, address any potential issues promptly, and ensure proper care to maximize the longevity and reliability of the DD15 engine. Ultimately, each user's experience may differ, and it's valuable to consider a range of opinions and experiences when evaluating the reliability of any engine.

@TATEXPRESSINC maintenance was definitely neglected prior to me buying the truck I am confident it was a USA fleet truck and the fuel water seperator hadn't been replaced in 2.5 years prior to me changing it, probably the same for on the oil
