I can't believe how effective your practice technique is. After just a few quick run-throughs you play, not only with a great degree of accuracy but also with such emotion. You must know this piece really well. I am so impressed! This must be one of the most difficult pieces to learn to play well. This concerto is one of the few pieces I listen to almost every day.

Hi Esther. I love your honesty and sharing feelings of performance anxiety through this. All I can add is that your journey gives many people hope to know that you don't pick up your bow and sight read performance grade music. It's truly great to see virtuosi let us see behind the veil. I loved Nigel Kennedy back in the day for trying to break down barriers to entry to classical music. I think you are doing the same now.

Thank you for sharing your practice with us. I have been working learning the Bruch for a couple of years (I am adult, late - starter, so I am kind of slow!) I love seeing that the same things are difficult for you, except you overcome them in after a few minutes! I am getting there. I will catch up with you in about 20 years! And big congratulations on your contract!

This is a most interesting exercise! Of course, getting the piece into your fingers is one thing, interpreting it another, and seemingly taking a LOT more time. Also, I think your idea of remaining more still in your playing will serve you well. You are quite demanding on yourself, which will also serve you well. But most important, you do entirely love this process. That is most important of all!
@JXS63J
@JXS63J 3 жыл бұрын
All right, you want pieces? The Beethoven VC opening! Forget the "minute" version! Go straight to the 10 minute version. Or any Bach! Chaconne? Remember, stay still! Don't give us the last Paganini caprice, as that is overplayed; but any other would be interesting. The only other thing that comes to mind right now are some of those tremedously difficult Ysaye sonatas. But that would really be putting yourself "out there".

Hi Esther. Please could you try this challenge with the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto? The joys of starting a new piece. I’ve just started to learn the Chaminade Concertino and Meditation from Thais. I must be mad, but the start of both pieces came quite naturally which I wasn’t expecting. Happy New Year xx

Hmm. The first piece I'd enjoy is Romance sans paroles et rondo elegance (I hope I wrote the title correctly, I don't speak French) by Henryk Wieniawski. And the second thought was some baroque music, I remember you played Chaccone by Bach. Have you played Fugue in a minor also by Bach? Or maybe Passacaglia for violin solo by H. I. F. von Biber? And now I'm thinking about Ysaye solo sonatas... And Ysaye Poeme elegiaque for violin and piano... That's quite a lot, and if I want to play any of these pieces I should go practice 😂 and practice every day for the next couple of years... And that's why I want others to play these very difficult pieces 😉 sorry!

I practice hope for hours here, to learn somehow just to survive my friend, the violin of fear, That with it's silence takes a life. Two years of practice and I fail, To find somehow this precious note. I feel so helpless on its scale, Is lost the song of love I wrote.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . was thrown...a..-..way... . . . . . . . on every road.......

It's fun to watch how frazzled you get in practice vlogs like this challenge, and we're all our own worst critics, even virtuosi it would seem, but come on!! All three of your play-throughs sounded great to me, especially considering the constraints. What percentage of people studying violin would look at this for a month and sound anywhere near as good as you did here after a few minutes?

I want to get an intermediate level Violin but pitty, my budget is not enough as I'm a student and got no job, yet...
@yddra1732

Don't worry too much about that, from what you said I suspect you still have some lot more time before really feeling the limitation of the instrument. Take Esther's or Ray Chem video on 60 dollars violin and you'll see that you can go quite far with them. One issue you may have though is that the strings could be in wrong place, too high, too narrow... so I'd suggest to first go check with a luthier and see with them to get s better bridge, new strings (might be time to get some new one now if you started last may) and get it setup. It may seem trivial but makes a BIG difference already. Anyway keep practicing and you'll get there !
