I have a 2015 79 series single cab gxl. Bought it brand new. Have got a 4 inch long arm coil conversion, 315’s bullbar/siderails, 2m tray, 1600L canopy. Front mount, red wheel gturbo. Also only just hit 80,000. I wont be buying another car again. It goes everywhere and anywhere. You got a subscriber from me. Not because we both like cruisers but how your honest review with everything is with your videos. I feel like most channels these days have lost that. Good luck with the channel mate 👍🏻

Hi, i think what really lets me down is the track width. The reason for the suspension creaking and groaning is the lateral forces as the rear tries to follow the front. The clutch issue has occured from about 2019 on. Ive got everything in the hilux that the 70 now has eg dash info, safety suite, steering wheel. What we need on cattle stations is about where we were in 2006. Simple, rugged, excellent payload life front axle. I think toyota are taking the mickey out of us, trying to make the 70 all things to all men and therefore nowhere. Same for the 300. Its a tribute and we get less quality engineering and more “bling”.

i feel like this review is a great testimony to why the gxl 79 is well worth the money, whilst it’s not going to change the fact the car is outdated by todays standards, it would include a few features that make the car feel a little more usable when daily driving. excited to see the comparison video when it releases!

People buy it BECAUSE it is outdated. I don't want a modern car with everything in a screen, and cars will only get worse. Software defined vehicle will make them an advertising and subscription platform that you don't own, the manufacturer has control over what your car displays. I DON'T want that!

What is very interesting to me is that the African spec 2024 70 Series has more modern sideview mirrors than the Australian spec. They have a modern plastic shell meanwhile the Australian spec has the same sheet metal arm and mirror as the previous one. I think they fit the car better as they're more old-school.

I know it's only early days. An update in 12 months would be awesome, but it felt like i was looking in the mirror watching this. My first 4wd was an 08 n70 hilux. I loved it but soon learnt that ifs was really annoying off road, every trip or 2 id split my cv boots and need to have them replaced and that was just from driving on the beach. About 2 or 3 years ago i bought a 98 gu patrol. I love it but it is very easy to be tempted by a 300 series for example. I think as long as you focus on the benefits of a more basic car like your 79 or my patrol has to offer then you will be happy with your decision. The wind noise can get annoying so i can 100% relate with you there 😂
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 9 ай бұрын
Absolutely, ifs is not great for off-road but is superior everywhere else. Remember, a lot of people don’t take their 4wd’s off-road so I can see why the manufacturers shifted to the ifs. A 200 or 300 was on my list but went with a 79 for that exact reason of basic and tough. Perhaps Ill call you in your GU and we can shout at each other over our wind noise 😆
@JoshSinnott97
@JoshSinnott97 9 ай бұрын
Yeah I can definitely see why the market has shifted to ifs. It's sad that the only solid axle options we have are the 70 series, jeep (which I wouldn't risk taking remote) or a jimny which is too small to go touring. It makes the 70 series the easy and only choice Ahaha can you imagine! On that note, if you install a good microphone to pair with your head unit for your hands free calls, assuming you can do that on a 70 series, that might be a good video people (myself included) might find helpful I don't know if you're part of some of the new car fb groups, I am just to see what I'm missing out on and if I should jump ship, but a lot of the time all different makes and models, Toyota included, the technology in them failing or throwing a code can ruin your trip. I've heard of people having to tow their car to a dealership just so they can clear the code which then takes the car out of limp mode. That honestly scares me off a new car. I think the 70 series is the only exception I'm glad you're happy with it mate, it should serve you well for many years

@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 it’s part of the worlds legislating system that forced change on Toyota to change the design. Some things are good when they force changes, but some things are really bad. Are used to drive to a coaches in Europe, and they enforced their coach manufactures to design them with a crumple zone to keep the passengers in case of an accident, then unfortunate part. Is that this part that crumples up in case of an accident is where the driver sits in. The bulkhead is behind the driver seat. So in other words if the driver has an accident the driver will die or be injured severely. After all drivers can be replaced passengers cannot be.

I’ve been trying to work out why your LC79 looks so strange for weeks now, and it finally dawned on me; just about EVERY LC79 I see has had the chassis stretch to move the rear axle rearwards. Is that one of the things you are considering on doing down the line?
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 9 ай бұрын
The chassis stretch is a common mod for sure! I may consider it down the track but there are other modifications to do first to make it more capable. I like the dimensions of the stock dual cab too I will have to think about it for sure

Pulling badly to the left is pretty standard; I had the same issue in all my (4) LC70 in the last 10 years but the wheels alignment usually is able to solve it. Not for my LC79 2021 with a bad rear toe; I asked Toyota to recheck the rear axle, I tried different wheels but no way, the car pulled on the left. About the parking brake, the LC 79 is an off road car with an huge load capability and the brakes could get really hot and sometimes the classic four clicks for the handbrake might not guarantee enough tolerance. That's why the factory sets 7 clicks for the HB. Lot of noise, that's why you don't want upgrade the audio system. Armrest is a must, in the doors as well. Airco is great if you don't add any sort of air filter ..11:26 the balls 15:43 totally agree, I got my 2022 one month ago and I didn't order the new model so far. 18:51 the purpose of this car is to work offroad and safely bring you back home.

I wonder if my 100 series gets there? 70 series, A vehicle made for a purpose no compromise, no bs. BTW that sixty series cost $ 52.000 in 1987 (think about that?!! @@kromey111 only time will tell mate. I got the V8 as it was the last to own one. The auto transmission in 4 cylinder annoyed me too much with its second guessing. Thus, this is the only manual in the lineup now. The boost pushing through the 4 cylinder is very high whereas my v8 rarely gets above 5psi. Not an issue for most but I put big kms on my 4wd’s and the V8 will take it better over time. Something else no one talks about is the fuel economy. I don’t know what tests these reviewers are doing but my v8 outperforms the 4 cylinder every day of the week. I live near mountain ranges and I would be easily over 15-16L/100km on a mountain run. My v8 gets the same regardless if I’m on the highway, mountains, or driving to and from work. It’s a reliable 10.5L/100km all year round. These are some of my thoughts. I definitely need to make a video on it but will anyone listen with all of the big KZbin channels saying otherwise? I think everyone is convinced the 4 cylinder is better and I think I might leave it at that. Or will I…

Great review. Ive had 4 v8 79, a 200, a 2006 factory turbo 70, a 1997 78 troopie, 60,80,100 blah blah. Best? 80 series turbo wagon and the 2006 turbo 70. 3 of my v8 70 series have had “issues” eg rear suspension groaning, noisy gearbox, clutch. I was toyota australias auctioneer and as youncan see by my profile pic i have a beaut fj45. I got out of the 300 (hated it. Stupid tailgate etc), sold the 79 and bought a hilux to see if I like the 2.8 and auto before i buy a new 70. Now im struggling to justify why I should. I doubt i will every buy another landcruiser. They are taking the mickey out of us. Time will tell. In the meantime inwill drive my fj45 to remind me of how it once was.
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 9 ай бұрын
Can’t go wrong with the FJ45. Just to play devil’s advocate, do you think the reason why you are let down is because you come to expect more of the vehicles? As an example, groaning suspension and noisy gearboxes to me is what I expect from a truck like this but I could see how this would be a let down for others who were expecting more from a modern vehicle. At the end of the day, this is an old vehicle and it will behave like one. It’s certainly not for everyone. Great review Mark, thanks. Just to add to the whole hand brake thing - when I first got my 76 series I parked facing downhill - but in Reverse gear. As I was about to walk away, I noticed it was very slowly inching forward. I later found out that the gear you leave it in should match the roll direction. ie: facing downhill should be left in 1st gear, and facing up hill should be left in Reverse gear. Apparently the engine compression is greatest in the direction of the gear. So in my case it was rolling forward because there was not enough compression from Reverse gear. Maybe something you're aware of already, but thought I'd mention in case!

The DPF thing on your hilux sounds strange. I have a 2023 prado 150 series and when it does the dpf burn apart from the display showing the chart you would not know its running. The revs do not change and no extra air sounds or anything.

Hi mate, I have the non JBL system and the audio was great! I’m sure the JBL would be even better. I had the darkest legal tint on it 👍 Congrats on the purchase! I loved my rogue

Did you sell the patrol? Haven’t really been watching lately, was looking forward to more vids on it
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 9 ай бұрын
I did 👍 I sold it to a young apprentice. He loves it. I got it to a point where the main things were fixed and it was road worthy and decided to move it along. I didn’t have the budget to do anything crazy with it like a engine swap and the interest from the audience wasn’t there so I decided to sell it. I have a lot of great memories in the patrol though. It was definitely an experience

Hey mate. You're talking me into one 😂. One cheap mod I'd suggest is terrain tamer's steel gasket for the air box. It stopped my brothers troopy getting dust past the filter. Cheap effective mod

Haha I’m loving it heaps!! Thanks for the tip. I’m trying not to mess around too much with intakes due to warranty but I’ll definitely consider it 👍

@@NorthOz glad to hear it mate. I'm thinking about the new auto down the track for a long term purchase. Google " terrain tamer air box gasket" you'll see what I mean. Least invasive mod for cars under warranty. Just take it out before service by unclipped the air box.

Hi Mark thanks for your video mate, subscriber from Sydney💪. Question- what did you mean by the intake only being raised but not sealed? And 2 piece? Maybe do a shorts video for us. Cheers
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! Sydney is a great place. The intake is sectional so it has 2 pieces being divided in the middle which has the potential to allow water in when crossing rivers. I absolutely will make some content on it to show you 👍
