In this video series, I discuss toe walking and treatment suggestions. My new co-instructor is Lynsey who is a toe-walker. I start with a general discussion of toe walking. I show normal ankle movement with a neurotypical child. Then you follow me as I assess a 6-year-old toe walker and follow-up with the treatment ideas that I would suggest. I appreciate so much Lynsey and her family being brave enough to be filmed to help people around the world. I hope you find this information helpful to guide you in assessment, treatment, home programming, and telehealth for children who toe walk. This should be considered only basic information about toe walking. There are people who teach toe walking in workshops for therapists. This presentation of information is not on that level. This discussion is geared toward parents on a more basic level.
My website is www.pediatricPTexercises.com. My Facebook page is Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises. My informational books, "A is for Autism," "C is for Cerebral Palsy," "D is for Down Syndrome," "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Hips" and "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Knees" are available on Amazon. "A is for ADHD" should be available shortly. Do not hesitate to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com with questions, concerns or favorable reviews! Please note I am unable to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated.
I am so honored to have people from all over the world watch my videos. I have reviewed and corrected the closed captions for this video so that you might understand what I am saying even if you don't speak English. I hope the directions below are helpful to you.
To turn on Captions, click CC in the bottom right corner of the video.
To choose a different caption language:
At the bottom right, click Settings. It looks like a wheel.
Click Subtitles/CC.
Select a language.
If the language isn't listed when you click Subtitles/CC:
Click Auto-translate.
Select a language.
Of course, if the captions are in the way of viewing the details in the video, you can always turn them off in the bottom right-hand corner of your video screen.

My daughter has been a toe walker since she started walking. She's now 6 and it's non stop. She almost can't walk without doing it. It's the first thing most people notice about her besides her extreme height. She's been to a P.T. at the age of 3 and he told me she would grow out of it and her range of motion was beautiful. We just went to Shriners in Erie this year (age 6) and they recommended more P.T. but said her range of motion and flexibility is exactly where it should be. I'm at a loss. We tried heel squeakers, "rocker" shoes, P.T., and are about to buy platform crocs. They think she's doing it for stimulation. No autism or the such. But she does have behavioral diagnoses. Any recommendations or help for a frustrated momma tired of feeling guilty about hollering about her toe walking? :(

I can’t make recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated. But, if I saw a child similar to this I would consider toe walking SMO’s or orthotics. You are going to have to seek another opinion if you are not happy with the opinions you have received so far.

Hi.. Can u tell me an excercise for my baby to stand on her own means without support. Like getting up frm the ground.

I believe in my playlist for getting into standing there are some videos on how to help a child get up to standing from the middle of the floor with less support. I don’t think there’s one about getting up to stand with no support. But maybe these will be helpful. kzbin.info/aero/PLAkJbMrHyKjM1llP4H__xPvtRv2S2ZvFz

What kind of shoes would you recommend to help with toe walking?
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 2 жыл бұрын
Well the answer of course is that it depends. I assess a particular child’s feet and decide if they need orthotics or arch supports or simply shoes that encourage them not to supinate their feet. I might recommend shoes that have heels and work to progressively less heels as her ankle stretches out more. I recommend you talk to a local pediatric physical therapist to get recommendations for a specific child.

Hi! Can i ask your opinion about how normal is for 2- 4 years old children to walk with flatfeet or with ankle pronation? Can IT be corrected if it s a genetic problem?
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 4 жыл бұрын
The answer is ...it depends. It can be genetic. Toddlers tend to pronate and then an arch develops. Here is an article I found that was helpful. surestep.net/blog/pronation-in-kids/

Does the PT do serial casting or do you have to go to a specialized clinic?

Hey amy I wanted to ask. My son is 8 months he won’t sit. He fussed and refused to sit. We’ve been trying to get him evaluated but of course takes time. He rolls and scoots back a lot. And even gets up on all fours. He pushed forward slowly but no interest in sitting. Any help? I’m getting worried. I even look at your previous videos to help but he won’t do it. He cries so much. But the moment he’s ON all fours he’s fine

Hmmm... that sounds like a very specific issue that would have to be evaluated locally. I don't know if any of these will help but here is my playlist for sitting balance kzbin.info/aero/PLAkJbMrHyKjMV5czJ3ZRd6JWW8Joh3qgH
