This is so cool, I am doing a lot right apparently!! I eat mostly unprocessed or minimally processed food, I dont smoke or drink, I sleep well, I do strength training, I've begun figure skating one year ago (its my passion!) I only work parttime at a gym, virtually no stress.. I am 41 years young... I look a lot younger, or so I am told ;) I used to be very depressed and stressed (teens and twenties) I smoked, drank even did drugs, I was on hormonal birth control, had no idea what damage sugar does and how it affects your mood and fat storage. So happy I turned this around and am now living a happy healthy life!

Thank you for talking about this topic. I think that major life stresses are factors that are forgotten or disregarded when looking at health. Whether or not the home is dysfunctional or incompatible with the person could make a surprising difference.

You young guys are right on target to be what others will need when you are old. I will be 89 next month and I live what you are talking about. I have young friends who help with technology so that I can ferret out info that they need to be healthy . I also have others who are available for other kinds of help which makes me feel safe and be safe so that I can dance and play tennis and spends lots of time having a good time with lots of people. Etc. etc.

Dr. Rangan, great podcast.. however i keep listening to other podcasts as well, now, the thing is with so many you tube channels telling soo many different things, example same say meat diet, others say veg diet, some say only weight training , others say dont do weight training , in this colossal array of opinions, it is becoming increasingly difficult to determine what and who someone whould listen to., this episode of yours was more logical than what i have heard before on other channels, keep up the good work - regards, Paritosh Sharma from North Macedonia

A quick scan of what you were writing. I have to drive somewhere. Too much content online, only to save the link to maybe view another time. This is what these experts do for a living, they preach health which in incredible. They're not too concerned with daily bills, work etc. They lead a different lifestyle.

I do not believe that anyone says to not do strength training because that is the only way to maintain muscle let alone build some!
@bonnieschmidt58825 ай бұрын
I agree, it’s difficult to know what’s best to eat, but who thinks weight training is not important? I don’t think there’s been any disagreement about that. Of course both cardio and weight training are both encouraged, but there seems to be general agreement that weight training comes first.

Look at the science, that is the only sound way to go, and it says: varied diet consisting mainly of whole grains, fruits, berries and vegetables, nuts and seeds, plus the oils coming from these foods, herbs and spices. Consume less or equal to the calories you burn every day. If youre going to eat meat, eat some fatty fish or lean meats, but do so in moderation. Dont consume processed foods and refined/added sugar at all if possible. That is all you will ever need to know about nutrition. Youre welcome.

WOW - at times this video created more questions, at other times just confusion but continuing to watch did help me make my mind up and decided how to progress, I generally eat healthy, extremely low on processed food and even lower on ultra processed food. What I'm taking from this video is that I need to eat more protein - perhaps bigger variety of it. and learn something new - need to think on this one. Something that often emerges in your videos is to let go of guilt and letting go of the past to have a better future... Thank you both Dr. Rangan and Dr. Tommy for 2 hours of my day well spent. Ps: I did get up to do some gardening half way through 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Summary 1. eat a balance of foods 2. challenge the brain: languages etc, then rest the brain (just like you would a muscle) 3. sleep well 4. movement with coordination: dancing, tai chi etc 5. socialise when you retire, replace the cognitive challenges from work

A world leading endocrinologist and metabolic expert, Dr Robert Lustig, who you yourself have interviewed on this channel says that FRUCTOSE is TOXIC!
@annemckee8525 ай бұрын
I think what he actually says is that the overconsumption of processed food is toxic because of all the added sugars as well as seed oils and other toxic ingredients is what is toxic for us and this guy is saying the same thing, if sugar consumption is constant in the diet ofcourse it is toxic but if you only consume it as an every now and then treat it may not be toxic. That makes sense. Please go back and listen to this pod cast talking about the diet and go back and listen to dr. Lusting, get rid of processed food and the toxic ingredients and you body and brain will be much better off! Now we need to stop buying all the junk food and eat whole foods and the processed junk will be voted out of our grocery stores and out of our restaurants . That is the only way for us to make this happen.
@theeventhorizon-valebridge95125 ай бұрын
@@annemckee852 Thank you for taking the time to write a reply. I agree with what you've said. I was under the impression from listening to many interviews and lectures from Dr Lustig that just tiny amounts of fructose are toxic. I know that all substances are toxic if consumed in large enough quantities e.g. water will kill you if you drink 6 - 8 litres of it in a few hours. Dr Lustig states that fructose can only be metabolised by the liver and so can easily overwhelmed it, leading to it causing NAFLD and metabolic syndrome. I feel in this interview episode the danger of fructose is not being properly warned of, or for that matter omega 6 fats and constant high levels if insulin caused by carbohydrates. This particular doctor ,Tommy Wood, is rather playing down the seriousness and consequences which western societies are facing with the associated diseases and therefore being a mild disservice. The modern illnesses associated with metabolic syndrome are causing 85% of all diseases present in modern day humans! Dr wood says not to worry too much as stress is also bad for your health! I just don't think he emphasises the severity of the food epidemic killing and maiming so many people worldwide that is totally avoidable. I wasn't impressed with his attitude overall, it was too soft and accepting.

People who eat excess amount of protein age QUICKER and lack energy. Just compare people in their 40ties and 50ties of different lifestyles they followed for at least 20 years. This will clear any doubts about low/high protein being good for human optimal health.
