Hi Rev! Just thought I'd start watching your PCT Adventure after starting to watch your recent video's! Great advice on when to commit to the trail. Loved the Mile 1 crawl !!! Thank you for doing these video's and inspiring this 62 year old to get out there and adventure. I love being outside, I seem to be less distracted in the woods, talking and Listening to God! Still working and can't do a thru hike, (yet) but there are plenty of great trails in Michigan and near by States to hit! Thank you for your video's and I'm able to go along watching them! See you down the trail!

Hi Rev, I’ve been watching hiking posts for the past 4 years now and done a couple of hikes myself. At 60 years old, I’m going to watch your videos to glean as much as I can. I’ve been teaching middle school for 36 years but can’t retire because lack of health insurance. Maybe I can do the PCT during summer break. 🤔

I met a lot of teachers on the PCT who hiked during the summer break trying to finish the PCT. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

I going to relive my 316 mile journey of 2019 while watching along. I had to leave the trail due to the worst case of “shingles” that the doctor had ever seen. After healing up I was able to hike another 75 miles at different points along the way to Canada. Thanks for taking me along again!

I really appreciate your measured monologue and M.O. A dear friend of mine is clergy, and he's just like that. I've been watching through hiker's vblogs for three years now I guess, and the more I watch, the more I see of zipper failures even on those very expensive ultra-light tents. Quality control is attenuating I guess. Enjoying your vlogs! Thank you.

That is very kind of you. I try not to talk too much. It’s hard not to being a preacher and all. But the beauty of the Trail is what I want to showcase not my ability to drone on and on. I think some KZbin vloggers love to hear themselves talk. I sent my tent to Zpacks to get repaired or replaced. I’ll let you know the results.

I think I know the man you are referring to that started the PCT and ended his hike because he missed his family. He has a KZbin channel and he got back to me about what he has been up to. He said for the last three years he has been building up his business and home schooling his kids. He just sold his business and made enough to retire. He is in his early thirties. He plans to hike the PCT in 2023 with his now eleven year old son. I am retired and my issue is not fitness but telling my wife I will be gone for about four months. I feel like I have to do it but I am going to take crap for this one. Great video and thanks for sharing.

I retired from the Navy in 1992, and had been through a few jobs by 2008. I was in between jobs, had a computer, internet access, plenty of time and about $1,200 per month after deductions. I needed to keep my brain occupied to keep up morale. I started to study the John Muir Trail. I used Google Maps as I read each page of the trail guide and I plotted a southbound adventure with resupply points and possible off trail access to civilization or a campsite with a bear box, where I might place supplies during a pre-hike road trip. This research project lasted 3 months. So, when I fully retired at age 55, I had the desire, but lacked needed physical ability, the trail was but a dream. It was in 2017, a high school alumni began her journey on the PCT that I focused my time on creating 3 Google maps from watching hiker videos. I am using my Google maps as personal research tools to prepare for my future attempt. Unfortunately, Only I have full-function on my maps, so I recommend other students of the sport create their own maps. If I ever do make the trek, then I will focus my years of knowledge and experiences on the task. I wish you the best on your journey. Interesting that you started 4/15. Looking back do you think that was a good start date or would you have changed it?
@TheHikingRev4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s a great start date. Halfway Anywhere showed that it was the most popular start date. You also need to be aware of how much snow there is in the Sierra. Either speed up or slow down.

Thank you Thank you ...... you shoot a pan for the video do that people can see the shot, that’s kind of rare. So it’s now Oct, 2020. Is your wife going to get upset if you do the AT 2021 ? My guess is that trail is more physically demanding because there is more combined vertical and they didn’t know about switch backs when they built it I guess.
@TheHikingRev4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Randy. I feel panning makes the shot more interesting. IMHO. As far as the AT is concerned, I’ll leave that to the younger hikers. I’m surprised the PCT didn’t kill me.
