Very good tips, especially keeping paddle up and far enough out in front. Showing the forward and lower body position is helpful too. There are times to take one step back with one leg for space and time on a good dink from opponent to keep the ball in front but building in the memory and mindset of taking out of air as often as practicable is a key for my game.

Taller players have a huge advantage here. I played against one guy who was over six feet tall and draggy knuckles ). His long arms and height only gave me half the kitchen to drop in.

I love this channel but i have to disagree with "step back and lose the point". I play at the 3.x level and for me, stepping back and creating space allows me to attack the ball and hit at the opponent's body. At this level this works 8 or 9 out of 10 times. I do agree that taking the ball out of the air takes time away from the opponent, but that's about it. It's not an offensive shot, and many times you simply pop up and get attacked. Any thoughts from players at 4.x or higher? Would love to hear your take.

Practice drills are the key to improving. The odd thing about pickleball is that very few want to partner up and practice. People just want to play games because pickleball is so much fun. The comparison at 8:40 showing what beginners, intermediate, and advanced players do at the kitchen line was a good visual. 🙌

Tyler you are brilliant coach but your video making skills on this lesson are badly letting you down. Please do not put our videos where the noise of the wind blowing surpresses your voices - you are too good to do that. I am a bit hard of hearing but I found listening and understanding disappointingly hard. This is the only reason and the only time I have given you a thumbs down. Sorry. JBM Wales.
