UPDATE: Here's a quick video for everyone who thinks all my amps sound the same: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH_LgqOtbq-XZ6s Notes: Thanks for watching this video! This is technically NOT a 'comparison' video but more of an amp 'showcase'. However, I definitely think you should be able to get a very good idea of how all the amps sound and compare against each other (with this particular guitar). So to everyone who wants a very scientific comparison: My advice: just sit back and listen to the amps and see which one speaks to you the most, don't worry too much about the differences as presented by the IR's. Keep in mind that how I set the controls also have a HUGE impact on the sound as well so those are some pretty drastic variables that also come into play. I prefer to hear the amps work in a full band setting with a cab sound that works well with the amps. Each of the amps tend to work best with different cab and speaker types so this is a way of showing what the amps can do in a setting that works well for the amps. It was a lot of fun and I enjoy listening to all the amps in all their glory! I hope you enjoy it as well! That Ibanez is a great guitar! Maybe those stock IBZ/Dimarzio pickups aren't perfect since they can get a bit too 'quacky' sometimes, but I thought it sounded pretty great with all the amps nonetheless. Keep in mind that different guitars or pickups can make these amps sound completely different. I guess that's why I'll have to do more of these videos in the future :) Cheers!

@@SonicDriveStudio Great vid, man. Very noticable differences there of course, and you can really hear the different EQ profiles especially coming through. I'd love to see a video where EQ is really taken into account i.e 'The Marshall sounds bright and the Orange sounds dark, but by adjusting EQ, how similar can we make them sound?'. I too was amazed at home similar these all sounded too...and I'm usually a stickler for guitar tone. I'd argue that 90% of these were no different from each other than moving a mic an inch in any direction. A few like the JMP1 stood out as being a bit thin and lifeless but I'd be happy with almost all those tones. I'd love to hear a similar comparison with a way cleaner sound just on the edge of breakup. That's where the tones of various amps vary the most IMHO.

If you think these all sound exactly the same, you need to reassess your means of listening to music. There are nuances between some of these amps and some GLARING differences as well. How often are people listening to an EP of raw, unprocessed guitar tones on their record player or streaming on their favorite streaming service? Never. The context of the mix is everything. What this does demonstrate is, is how you can get a great hard rock/metal tone out of a HUGE range of amps and at a big range in prices. Kudos to those who recognize the service this provides. Those who can't create, often hate. Thanks for the video Jon!

You could make a danelectro honeytone sound great within a mix, most people don’t listen to unmixed amps on record, but they do every time they play them by themselves, I would also have liked if atleast the eq was set at noon on all the amplifiers, now it just shows how good these amps are at creating one preferred distorted tone

I noticed that too.I especially liked the IRT studio. If you gave it a bit of the 5150 grit and transparency to create a bit more raw string sounds ut would be the best sounding ampmto my ears. I own a 5150 and boost it with an EQ pedal. I'm sorry to say, none of these amps get the sound I am getting currently. ENGL sounds nasally. Axe FX sound weak. PRS sounded great in the mid range vocally but lacked luster in the raw high and lows. Marshalls as usual are very vocal in the mid to high range but lack the grit and some transperency in the sound especially in the highs. Hugues and ketner was ok but nothing fancy. Orange is unique but almost a one trick pony like ENGL. It becomes a signature sound but genre specific which doesn't fit as well with these riffs. I came here to decide what sponsor I will allow me to use their gear to represent them one day.... ;)

Yes. I've listened to Jon's shootouts, both lunchbox amps and full-sized, and the 6505MH have very much the sound of a Marshall SV20 or the SC20; i.e. lower gain amps but driven hard. And the MH is very close to the bigger 6505.

Here are the amps that impressed me the most: Paul Reed Smith MT15, Hughes and Kettner Grandmeister Deluxe 40, Mesa Boogie Mark V Thirty-Five, ENGL Ironball, and Laney Ironheart 60. If I had to choose a favorite, probably between the MT15 and Grandmeister Deluxe 40.

Through my Adam a5x monitors, most of them do sound similar in the mix! Most amps sounded very 5150/6505 based to me. Just the Mesa Boogies, Marshalls and Orange Rockerverb were unique (imo). I think, if you wanna buy an amp , go with that one that feels the best for you, while playing.

The best thing about this video is that you made all of these amps sound amazing! I see a lot of review videos from popular websites and retailers that make the equipment sound like shit. Like if you just type in Orange Tiny Terror into youtube, you'll get dozens of videos that don't do that little giant justice. Dual Rec and EVH el34 take the win for me. Definetely subscribing! I think these videos really speak more to the people who have experienced these amps themselves. The people are saying they sound the same but I’m half way through and I have played every amp so far. They all sound like I remember them. The first three sounded drastically different. I can hear the small and big power sections. I can hear those crazy transients on the 5153. I can hear that rumbly bass on the rectifiers and the kids on the Mark 5. But I only hear those things because I’ve had those amps and felt that myself. You gotta know what you’re listening for in these videos.

Mark from Periphery, ironically, plays the MT15 when he doesn't have his fractal axe. The Invective is very versatile for a Peavey, and there is also a 15watt Invective now. I love Periphery, and both amps you state, but unless you play live and need 120watts, I'd go with the MT15. But take a look at the smaller Invective too. I bet the 15w Invective paired with the MT15 would be a Great stereo rig.

yess all amps sound the same~10% max . what makes the difference is how its played and through what speakers & microphone ect. makes the biggest impact. sometimes if you use “wrong” cabinet impulse you sudenly changed it. i see that here as well. What differs was the reactance of inbetween , this woble groul efects & harmonic distortion. ther the video should shine
