@uptownphotography3 жыл бұрын
Excellent video and cool tool... I am looking for tools to actually use to bend wire for model railroad work. I scratch build HO scale bridges with measurements based on the prototype railroads (using a scale ruler of 1/87), Can these pliers work with half hard and full hard wire? (20AWG to 24AWG). I am also looking for quality pliers for making 90 degree bends accurately in the same type wires if you have any suggestions. Thanks and again, very well done video. You have to love the right tools for the right job. Philip

I've had the looper for awhile. My problem is for every 1 perfect loop I have 5 that do not work. The looper fails to cut, or the loop doesn't close. I still use it from time to time, but it can be aggravating when it doesn't work.

Would you recommend this cutter looper for memory wire?
@PolymerClayTutor9 ай бұрын
No, memory wire is too hard and will break the cutting edge on this tool. You need to use memory wire cutters, and round nosed pliers instead.

How does it work if you're making looped connectors like a necklace, i.e. Loop-bead-loop because you'd have to make a loop first and you wouldn't have the bead as stoppage? Hope this makes sense.
@FlowerGemsGirl10 жыл бұрын
It is kinda difficult to do the loop-bead-loop on this tool but it can be done! Mine came with the instructions on how to measure your wire properly. You start with just the piece of wire, make your loop, add the beads, then make the loop on the other end. I hope this helps, I'm usually bad with directions! 😉
@PolymerClayTutor10 жыл бұрын
Flower GemsGirl and leigh marikian I like to work with really long sections of wire when I make a bunch of links with this tool but it would be too hard to explain in this box. This would make a good video, I'll add it to the list.

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I follow the directions exactly. But my loops do not come out round. They are more teardrop shaped. Can you advise?
@PolymerClayTutor8 жыл бұрын
Once you make the loop you need to pull on the tail to bend it at a right angle. Didn't I do that in the video?

Thank you for your informative tutorial. As someone who is a complete novice, would you recommend that I start out using rounded pliers? I get the impression that using the looper tool might not create loops which are flush with the beads, unlike if you were doing it manually, or does it really matter? Lastly, which one would you recommend if you were creating chain link rosary beads? Many thanks.
@PolymerClayTutor5 жыл бұрын
Either tool will work, you just need to practice to get nice tight loops next to the bead. If I were making rosaries, I would use a looper because the links would be very consistent and quicker to make. But having round nose pliers is one of those must have tools if you're making jewelry, so you could start there and see how you like using them and then buy a looper if you think you could do a better/quicker job with it.

Do you have a preference between the sizes for making purse charms?
@PolymerClayTutor5 жыл бұрын
That would all depend on a bunch of things... how big the beads are, what I'm attaching the charm to, the size of the wire I'm using, the look I want, etc. That's why I have a couple of sizes of this tool. But if I could only pick one size, I guess I would go with the larger one because you would have more options.

Mine doesn't close the loop all the way 😔 Any tips...??
@PolymerClayTutor5 жыл бұрын
Make sure to push the wire in all the way, when squeezing the handles. Also, since you will have to use pliers to twist the circle open and attach the loop to whatever you're attaching it to, you can push the loop closed as you twist the loop opened and closed.

Yes you can make eye pins with this tool. You just put a loop at one end and make the other end as long as you want. The best type of wire to useis 20 gauge half hard wire.

What thickness of wire do you use (not sure if the 20 gauge thing is referring to wire thickness or not . >.< newbie here). Would the 1 step looper work or should I buy the big looper if I want to use it for polymer charms? My charms will be used for necklace since I don't have ear holes >.
