I love the mention of how people can find their passion later in life. I graduated with my BS in Biochemistry with the aims of working in a lab only to become a biology AND chemistry teacher at an all girls school. I just love the mention of differences. Oh and on the topic of Kudrow, my classmate in high school and college actually is cousins with Courtney Cox! It all comes full circle for me right now 😂

EPIC. My dad was a Ph.D. Chemist, University of Louisville 1965, his dad a Physics prof (Murray State University B.Sc. 1930, M.Ed. 1950). Dad and Granddaddy were good teachers (and known for it within their respective communities), but not as good as Professor Drennan. I am going to listen to this entire series. I am a failed physicist but I still remember my differential and integral calculus, and vector calculus, so I might have a shot at understanding this course, if calc still works the way it did when I learnt it. I can't solve a differential equation, but I can read one and say what the pieces mean. I know the Standard Model and a bit about curved spacetime, and understand electronics as a practitioner. (I know Maxwell's Equations). Thank you, MIT, for making this content available. It is perfect for a 'life learner' like me (aged 55).

I can identify with what she is saying about not appreciating chemistry at first. I loved advanced math, and AP chem bored me to death. All that mindless computation and stoichiometry...I was so glad when it was over. But then I took a more advanced course and learned about SSA, MCB, thermodynamics, transition metals, and organic chemistry. I began to appreciate it and be excited about it in the same way I was about math. I felt encouraged when she said chemistry is useful for math/physics careers like engineering. All the disciplines of science are interconnected, so I'm trying to do my best to understand them all at a deeper level and appreciate how they complement each other.

I feel that this course is very important for all the researchers in material science and engineering. I am so excited that I have started understanding the Physical significance of several things especially, orbitals using SCHRODINGER equation. I have planned to offer this course to my Ph.D students (in the future) as an optional subject. By the way, the course title perfectly fits.

The Chemist is probably the most dangerous person in any school, and they've got the materials in the back of the closet to be so. I guess the Math professor would be dangerous too, but they have to go through extra steps to get to where the Chemist or Physicist already is in terms of what they can immediately do with their knowledge of the world around them.

Hello there I bring you mind boggling chemistry question if it is ur willing Let me explain the question and i want satisfactory and simple tangible answer Q: In Our chemistry lesson i.e "Acid-Base equilibria" we have learned about acid-base conjugate with their strength (based on Bronsted-Lowery acid base pair) so #1👉)if HA (Hypothetical Acid) is weak, it's conjugate base will be stronger than it's source acid i.e HA, again #2👉 if HB (hypothetical base) is weak, it's conjugate acid will be much stronger than HB. #3👉 if HA is strong, the conjugate base will be weak #4👉 if HB is strong, it's conjugate acid will be weak #5👉 also Ka & Kb are directly proportional to the strength of acid and base (i.e when the value of Ka & Kb increase acid and base strength also increase ) Based on this as we know NH₃ is weak base and it's conjugate acid must be stronger and must contains higher Kb value. However NH₃ which has Kb value 1.8×10¯⁵­ i.e higher than it's conjugate acid i.e ka value of 0.556×10¯⁹. so even if we use big approximation we get the ff 🔵Kb=10⁴ka according to the above definition the value of NH₄ (conjugate acid) must be much larger than it's source base. Why is this so? according to the above 5 definition doesn't it contradicte? as i mentioned i need deep clear and convince answer rely on book

Hi Spencer, yes, that is exactly what this course is geared for. There are no prerequisites and it is usually taken during the first year of undergrad, the expectation being that students have had only one year of high school chemistry. This was disgusting. I started to realize that the beginning of the lecture was all about "feelings" (way to break away from stereotypes, girl!) and how she didn't used to think chemistry was relevant to biology (what!?) and showing a picture of herself and Phoebe from Friends... then I happen to chance upon this comment. If the race in question were switched to anything else: Jewish, Black, Chinese... people would be reeling from the racism. But to say that about white people is fine because... feelings. I really have to call into question the logical integrity of everything this person says. I guess sadly she's a DEI hire. That's a shame because there are legitimately brilliant women in all fields out there. Sigh, while she seems rather unintelligent to me so far, I need/want to soak up as much information as I can possibly find anywhere on chemistry, so I will hold my nose and continue. She can be unintelligent and still regurgitate the facts illuminated by the scientists she mocked... hopefully.

Not quite sure but she said soemthing about the Ideal gas law PV=nRT T is for Temperature, in Physics M could be meter, even tho that would be m not M, or more likly M for Mass, In Math i is used as an imaginary number, ndon't nunderstand the whole principle of that, but that's what i could find. Oh boy, clickers go with chemistry like peanut butter goes with jelly. I refused to buy a clicker in chemistry because I didn’t have much money, and I got a C-. 😅 I passed. It was one of the hardest classes I’ve taken, and it was the most interesting. I use chemistry every day in my garden, aquarium, nutrition, and maybe I will go back to college to major in chemistry because I miss it.
