Hair dryer was my biggest and most important discovery in grooming so far. I wear handlebar moustache and at the beginning I was really frustrated beause, even with firm wax, curls were falling down, single hair were going in every direction and after 20-30 minutes they looked asymetrical. Now I just blow dry them in proper shape and use just tiny bit of wax to make them sharp or just to keem them away from mouth. Same with sharp goatee. I recently trimmed it, it's shorter but it has more defined shape and is easier to style with balm or wax. It's a good habit to comb wet hair after taking a shower, don't expect to have a good beard shape if you just let it dry, event with shorter one.

When I first grew my beard, I hated that it curled and got wavy on the sides and I would trim just that part, and one day I just chopped off the curly part and it messed up my beard. I learned my lesson after that and never trimmed the curls and waves again. I actually prefer a wavier beard now.

I'm one of those carrying a thick brick curly beard around. Its not easy to care for it, I'll admit. Every time I comb it (and I try to comb it once a day, every morning only), I remove around 5 or 6 hairs along the process, and that always makes me mad... no matter how careful I am with my grooming. Sucks. But a proper shampoo, drying and oil helps out a bit more. Not a lot, won't lie, but a bit more. I also trim the sides of my own beard so it will keep that same shape... and once a month I'll go to the barber to adjust the hairs under and around the ear, which are areas I cannot see in the mirror. And Eric is right: curly beard makes it look like a straight up WALL. No light goes through, as its rock solid. That´s the good part of it. :)
@Beardbrand7 жыл бұрын
Curly beard=thick beard, what else could you ask for? As far as your combing routine goes, a few hairs is nothing to worry about. If they're coming out that easily, they probably weren't doing you any favors. -Josh
@williammullikin20766 жыл бұрын
your beard sheds hair just like your scalp, that way you always have hairs growing at different lengths which makes it look full. I use a plastic scalp massager to comb out my wet beard, very little pulling, and it de-tangles, It is impossible for me to comb my beard dry.
@GainingDespair6 жыл бұрын
People like to talk down about how you can't use a afro pick because this or that but in reality it's wide gaped and polished/smooth metal. You are not going to cut your beard on it like a $1 comb and I still find it funny a lot of folks like to push the highend combs (and nothing wrong with them I own a Kent 7T) but when they list off all the advantages of a nice comb you get that with a afro pick as well....
@Haulinoat7 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend for people to straighten their beards, that's how you end of damaging hairs. The goatee area of my beard is wavy and the jaw area is super curly. I just comb it out with a wide tooth and then brush it down. The boar bristles are great for refining and semi straightening with no damage done to the hairs. For those defiant hairs that won't lay down, holding balm is going to be your best friend

Thank you! I've been wanting advice on if I should trim the beard in a straightened or natural state. Since I'm not actually taking any off the bottom, I'm still going to straighten it and just trim off the real stragglers that poke out. I actually screwed up my beard once cutting it in a curly state because I didn't realize how much it was curled up and the actual length I cut off was much more than I wanted. I've been growing this sucker for 7 months now - It's fairly straight until 2 inches below my chin then it almost handlebars out on each side. Still get lots of compliments in a natural state though.

wash and condition once a week, co-wash with a conditioner the rest of the week, apply oil to still damp beard and comb/brush out, use your fingers to arrange it a bit and when it is dry it will look awesome. Go with the curl, plus it gives your beard a full shape unlike straighter beards that just hang from the face. Keep it simple and don't meddle with the beard.

Hello, I'm rewlly late to the party but I have a couple questions. Firstly, I'm in my early 20s and my beard is not as patchy as it used to be when I was a teen. The problem is how dreadfully hard the hairs are: they split apart if I try to use a comb or even if I just scratch my chin. They crack in half and fall off. The curls are random, they have no pattern at all. I look like a Taliban if I don't trim regularly the underside of my chin. My question is, is there any hope? Do I just keep it shaved? Will it change as I grow up?

Napkins are helpful when you're eating. As for the kissing thing, if she's willing to kiss you the 'stache must not bother her too much then right? You can also trim the mustache along the lip-line or lift it up with a comb and trim away the hairs close to the upper lip with a pair of grooming or trimming shears. Be careful though, as you can really screw up the look of your mustache if you trim too much. Fortunately, it's just hair and will grow back eventually if you mess it up.

so weird been talking to my woman how mine has more waves than a surfer on long beach then video shows up, strange things happen using telekinesis thanks Eric, and btw hope this ain't no argument on internet cause that's like a one dog race and coming in last no one wins I mean c'mon at least I knew a large word a little credit here
@dimitrispolitis93937 жыл бұрын
You do realize that telekinesis is completely wrong, right? Psychokinesis (from Greek ψυχή "mind" and κίνησις "movement"[1][2]), or telekinesis[3] (from τῆλε "far off" and κίνησις "movement"[4]), is an alleged psychic ability allowing a person to influence a physical system without physical interaction

How can i make my hair soft and shiny like yours? I've always used hair dryer for styling and now its pretty damaged, dry and kinda curly
@Beardbrand7 жыл бұрын
Beard oil and utility balm should do the trick. -Josh
@EricBandholz7 жыл бұрын
Well, every hair type is a little different so there are going to be techniques. If you have damaged hair, you'll need to trim off the split ends. Sounds like you may be using your hair dryer on too hot of a heat setting. I've found using a more premium dryer allows my hair to dry quicker with less damage. From there, my washing routine is pretty low maintenance because it's naturally oily.

Recommendations for guys with curly beards that have extremely dry skin underneath? I've been oiling and balming, but just seems like the face-fuzz sucks it all up and nothing gets to my skin. Gets dry, cracked, flaky, and worst of all, itchy!!! Any advice outside of 'see a dermatologist', I've been down that route and he basically was useful as tits on a bull, (Also 100% baby faced to boot!) So...any advice would be greatly appreciated, I know its an old vid, but...maybe?

What can I do to get my beard to lay flat??
@Beardbrand7 жыл бұрын
Good question, there's actually a few different things you can do. So, the easiest way is to brush it out consistently with either a good comb or round brush/boar bristle brush. If you REALLY want it to lay straight and flat, you can blow dry it down while brushing it down. That will give you a nice straight look. This second method is a bit of work, but the results are really nice. - Jack

Thanks brother. I'm half indonesian, so when I started out in the beginning of my 20's it was very, very patchy. I am 26 now and it's still kinda patchy but as the months pass by it's comin in thicker and thicker and the long hairs cover most patches very well. This is the longest my beard has ever been. It really opens new doors and teaches you patience. I cannot wait what it will look and feel like in 6 months. All the best to ya!
