Great points you bring up! There are some facts that apply to all beards, no matter the hair type, skin type, or any other factor. Such as: silicone has no place in beard products or the fact that all facial hair produces less sebum oil than head hair. Hair texture and skin type (dry or oily) can change a lot of things though! From the tools you use, the routines you develop, and the types of products you use (thick oil, thin oil, etc . . .). Have to find what works for your beard, within the facts. Great topic!

We cannot change the texture of our beard and we need to make the best use of our hairs, I have a Pacific Ocean wave running from my sideburns to my chin but I try to manage it by blow drying upwards to remove the drop in my chin and to improve the density of my beard. My beard is mostly wavy, but has a few defined curls in it here and there when it's longer. I think it's nice to have some texture in it, so I like it being a little curly. I'm excited to see how my curls will form as I grow it out longer. I don't wish it was any straighter. My head hair is also a mix of wavy and curly, but it used to be straight. I haven't permed it or anything. It just started curling itself naturally one day, a little bit at a time. It's only my thinning hair on top that stayed straight/wavy, lol. So, hair texture can actually change for some people. I've heard it's mostly big changes in one's hormone levels that can change that. I'm really glad my hair turned curly on its own. It was a pleasant surprise!

Before my grey beard, it was dark brown. It was very wavy. Then it changes when my grey hairs start to come out. It was very wonky at first while blending in, but when it starts to become whiter at the bottom, it starts to become more of a corkscrew. Now it's becoming more straight-ish in the bottom side area. Exciting stages that are very interesting to me. At first, I don't like it, but now I embrace it as my own.

I have a very similar hair type as you, mostly straight with a slight wave. I have never grown my beard out much beyond about 1/2 inch before last year. I have learned a lot and grateful for all the content on KZbin to assist. The right side of my face grows straight upwards, and when shorter made me crazy, but now it's longer it lays wonderfully. The left side however, when short it is awesome, but as it gets longer there are two distinct cowlicks that make turbulent pools of wavy hair. Now it is getting long enough that I can see what it's doing it's not bad, but for awhile I was going crazy trying to figure it out. Lessons learned for next time, but for now it's time to let it grow...

My beard annoys the piss outta me. The right side of my face lays nicely and is easy to groom. The left side, when it hits a certain length, gets a LOT of kinks and weird, extreme waves, and is very hard to groom. Even when I get it to a shape I want, within 20 minutes, it looses shape. :\

I have straight beard hair like Greg and I use a Conair steamer used for getting wrinkles out of clothes and it gives me a natural looking curly beard. Just steam my face. It also makes trimming my beard easier as the long 5 in hair doesn’t just drape against my face or off my chin give it structure and resistance Try it if you have straight hair. Definitely adds volume and looks natural. Not like the curling iron just demonstrated.

Interesting experiment. My beard is wavy, but it's different on each side. My chin waves outward on the left and inward on the right, making the round brush a necessity there. As the day goes on, it just kinda goes wherever, and as I comb it the waves get more defined. It's kinda frustrating, but at the same time unique. So thanks for sharing this video, Greg.

I always see a difference after showering, mz beard is curled up quite a bit. after applying some beard oil and blow drying it with a comb, it gets "longer" in appearance. So the difference is quite dramatic (looks like 3-5cm difference in Length) I usually try to maintain a little wave throughout the day, but curls come back over the course of the day. In the evening the beard is about 2cm shorter than in the morning. I'm fine with this, it showes that the beard itself is "alive" and not some dead attachment to my face

Dashing looks aside compared to my aesthetically-challenged face ... I think we have somewhat similar beards. Mine is definitely wavier. But I also have a medium amount of medium textured hair, my growth pattern is similar (bare spots that flank the soul patch), and the hair on my sides not as straight as the front and it also goes terminal, while the front continues to grow. Great stuff.

My beard is naturally curly. Without a hair dryer, my beard looks like a mess, and barely manageable (trust me, I had that phase before Beard Brand and Beard Board inspired me.) This is reminding me of the time, I was knitting with double pointed needles (making a pair of gloves,) and I occasionally stashed one of the needles in the beard (this was not done in public.)

My beard is wavy/curly and I love it, but it's also very dry. I've read on multiple sites that curly beards are drier because the sebum can't travel along the length of the hair as effectively. This sucks. I feel like I can barely comb it or brush it because it's so not compliant and so non-pliable. Any tips? Even though your beard isn't curly, I'm a first timer at 38, and you know a lot more about beards than I do. Someone help - I feel like I lose a soldier every time I comb or brush.

Hey, you probably found an answer, but I believe applying a beard oil, Jamaican black castor oil for instance (perhaps with a peppermint essential oil to increase hair growth), would do wonder for you!
@matthewjarrod25233 жыл бұрын
You need to spray some argon oil on your beard prior to using heat. Argon protects your hair from frying when using heat up to 420 Fahrenheit. That's why a good heat brush with heat indicated by numbers is desired. Now, this guy is a veteran beards man but the color change indicates he's straight up cooking his beard. Never use this type of iron. I'm saying this because it's difficult to do, I guarantee if I tried to use it I would have burn marks all over my face and neck.

My beard is getting quite long, and my beard hairs are flat and curled like ribbons. When I shower, my beard lays in long rings that form an almost perfect curl pattern, so I'm convinced it's the way my hair folicles just naturally shape the body of my beard. I have no neck beard, it stops precisely at a natural shave line just below my jaw, so no need to shave and sculpt anything. However, with the heavy curls in my beard, it literally creates knots when I comb it, so I have to dampen my beard first, otherwise I lose hair. I'm at the age where I get plenty of snow white hairs here and there, but the foremost of my beard is deep auburn brown/red. The white hairs will not dye, they resist the dye, so I know as my beard slowly turns white it will be a handsome one. Beard stuff is just as complex as women's stuff, they just think we're crazy for having 57,240 beard products. 😄😄😄

I just don't like the look of it. Would it get better, soon after that first week or...? I cant go too long with a messy look because of my job.
