I was getting annoyed because people were saying I cant sing but I know my voice is actually alright.. and I had people telling me I can sing and I thought hmm really? So one of my friends encouraged me to make a private story on snapchat for singing and can you believe it... You probably just don't have a good recording device/microphone. Think about the difference between talking to someone through Skype with some shitty headphones vs high-quality youtube videos or movies. How good your microphone and recording device is can really change how it sounds.

I know I'm late, but I have a quick little story. One of my friends has this AMAZING voice. Like I'm not just saying that-it's actually soo good. I took a video of her singing once and the video made her voice sound completely different and half as good. Moral of the lesson: videos and audio recordings really don't show what you actually sound like unless they're with the right place or equiptment.

Big thanks for this tip! I struggled with projection and noticed that my guitar/banjo drown my voice when I accompany myself, and that I'm much quieter compared to another male singer in my band. It was so confusing 'cause I normally have a very loud speaking voice. I'd also need to turn up the microphone gain much more than him. This really helps and trains me to send the sound forward so it reaches much further. I think that neighbors or household members' complaints when practicing can also really affect how much you dare to project. :/
