I needed new socks... So we thought we'd head out to 1 Utama..
1 Utama is a shopping mall in Bandar Utama, Selangor, Malaysia, with an area of 5,590,000 square feet and containing 713 stores. It is the one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia and the seventh-largest shopping mall in the world before IOI City Mall in Putrajaya surpassed it in 2022.

I have lived relatively nearby One Utama for most of my life. Shopping is good there because of the variety and local stores. A lot of brands, yes but it's not targeted towards tourist and foreigners as much so there's more a good mix of local and international stores. Not everything is high end and expensive like KLCC. The place is not as squeezy as MidValley can be neither is it so massive where you have to walk so much just to get to the neighbouring store like Pavilion Bukit Jalil. There is so much to do in One Utama in addition to shopping and eating:- (1) Secret rooftop garden - only open at specific hours (2) Indoor rock climbing (3) Indoor surfing (4) Indoor skydiving (5) Roller skating (6) Futsal (7) Rooftop Baseball batting cage (8) 2 cinemas (9) Performing Arts theater (10) One World Hotel is literally next door and is connected to the Mall. Basically, I love One Utama as a local. A place to hang out, chill over coffee, buy stuff, do stuff and just live life.

In general, KL appears to have an entirely different vibe from Bangkok. One thing that surprises me as a native English speaker is all the English signs everywhere in KL. I don't think many Americans go there as tourists, but there are many other English-speaking countries such as Australia, so maybe many others go to Malaysia. In any event, that mall is amazing and I can see how one could spend an entire day there. It also looked cool as in temperature-wise and I found myself trying to imagine the electric bill for air conditioning such a huge place!!! The food in the mall definitely looks good and there are so many packaged meals. The sushi looked delicious and those pastries would get me in a whole bunch of trouble! lol Do you notice any cookies or maybe like the English you call them biscuits?

We are a non opec member and a major natural gas producer. We are a tropical country with hydro power as well. Yes it may seem to be expensive to us consumers but the electricity bills are manageable using technology.

Colonised by the British. English is the second language for almost every one. American branded cookies & Malaysian + British + Australian biscuits most of the time are completely different from cookies😊 Only Oreos come close

Yes, you are right. The KL vibe is totally different to the BKK vibe.. A lot of Asia has English signs, which we found strange.. I thought about the AC thing too 🤣🤣 Not sure if solar panels are a thing in Malaysia, but there is PLENTY of roof space to mount them! Thanks for watching our video and leaving a comment. FYI due to how hot Malaysia is, malls in Malaysia are essentially meant to attract people who want to spend a day in a cool environment without having to pay such a high electricity bill due to AC usage. Hence good malls always have loads of attraction and good food to keep people occupied Malls are often packed during public holidays and weekends

they also have a fantastic cinema there with a huge IMAX screen! there is also a dive centre where you can start basic diving lessons to get a PADI license, a skatepark.. on top of that, they have an amazing indoor jungle with plenty of ponds and fish but on the top floor, there is a also "secret garden" that is just crazy beautiful. only one lift in the entire mall leads up to it. 1 utama really is ridiculously huge.

I'm guessing you guys went to 1 Utama on weekdays. Do check out the secret garden @ 1 utama (new wing) on weekends as it opens on Saturdays and Sundays. Some fun facts: Before 1 utama and the bandar Utama area was developed, the whole area used to be acres of oil palm plantation. I used to cycle in that plantation during my teenage years. The first ikea in malaysia was opened inside 1 utama before moving to its own building in 2003. The first 'rock the world' (malaysia's biggest annual open air) concert was held at 1 utama's old open air car park. It's where 1 utama's new wing is now located.
