I had +3 pitting edema in my feet, ankles, calves, knees, and thighs. It came on suddenly. My doctor put me on the classic treatment of Lasix and Potassium. It didn't work. I started taking B1, decreased processed sugars, wore TED hose, as my feet felt like they were broken from the enormous pressure from the edema. Blood vessels ruptured, and the front of my calves split, the edema was so bad. I am not diabetic. I walk and exercise. Once I took control of my health....I stopped the Lasix & Potassium.....increased my Magnesium Taurate and B1 vitamin, along with B12.....the edema literally disappeared in 2 days. I lost 25 pounds in that time, too. My doctor was stunned that I cured myself. I am an ER/ICU/Trauma Nurse). Everyone should be more proactive in their own healthcare. Research, educate yourselves, and dedicate your life to your life. Thank you, Dr. Berg.....you ROCK!❤😊

Dr Berg notes Dr Berg talks about edema causes and remedies. Swollen legs are often a symptom of edema and are typically blamed on liver, kidney, or heart problems. Did you know that edema and pitting edema may be able to be fixed without a blood thinner or diuretic? Water retention in the lower legs is caused by a problem with the sodium-potassium pumps in your cells. If these pumps aren’t working correctly, water retention outside the cells, known as interstitial fluid retention, will occur. When you have swollen ankles, it’s usually the result of high blood sugar connected to the hemoglobin protein in your blood. This is called glycation, which inhibits the blood cell’s ability to carry nutrition and oxygen throughout the body. Glycated proteins can also block circulation, leading to swollen legs and swollen ankles. High blood sugar causes sodium retention, which also contributes to water retention. Over time, this can affect the nerves in the bottom of the feet, causing numbness and tingling, known as peripheral neuropathy. Even if you don’t yet have diabetes, edema can be caused by high blood sugar. To help eliminate edema, you must ensure you’re getting plenty of potassium, which can be difficult to achieve through diet alone. The average person needs 4700 mg of potassium daily! Avocados, salads, and berries can help you meet this requirement. You also need plenty of magnesium to help eliminate edema. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and leafy greens are good sources of magnesium. Aim for 420 mg of magnesium daily. High-quality electrolyte powder without hidden sugars can help increase potassium and magnesium intake. Vitamin B1 deficiency is likely behind issues with the sodium-potassium pump. For sugar to be turned into usable energy in the body, you need vitamin B1. Consuming too many refined carbohydrates can cause a vitamin B1 deficiency. Vitamin B1, potassium, and magnesium can help eliminate edema, but you must also eliminate sugar from your diet. Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍

Remember that you cannot take magnesium, potassium, and calcium all together… Minerals compete with each other for absorption. Study Dr Berg's videos for better health as you get older. However your brain and long bones will still require carbs and protein to develop, i strongly suggest you avoid the Prolonged Fasting until you are older than at least 25 years old.

I don’t think this video is about the lymph problem… With lymph gathering in the legs, (ankles, feet) it’s called non-pitting edema. I have it too. Only lying down for at least 8-10 hours helps me. I don’t take any medicines, except thyroid hormone - I have Hashimoto disease and probably hypothyroidism by now - this is probably the reason of this problem... I should wear special compression tights (have problems with varicose veins and aneurysms on veins too) but it’s much too hot for it in the place where I live, we have 35-37 degrees Celsius now still and some 85% humidity - there is a problem with putting these tights on AND with pulling them off😢 my hands are too weak for them. This video is about a pitting edema - different problem, different reasons, different ways of treatment. Take care!

And gradient compression and MLD is definitely the gold standard in reducing and controlling lymphedema. But do not be mistaken, this nutritional info is valuable and applicable to anyone with lymphatic issues. We should educate more on this, however no one seems to wants to actually change their diet significantly.

I've had a problem with edema , swelling, and pitting on my left leg for 27 years. I got it because of an injury to my left foot. One time I foolishly went out barefoot and I stepped on a sharp pebble; and that's when the swelling started. I've been to various doctors about it and been basically told that nothing can be done. There had been some brief times when it went away but it came back. Elevating can help, but it's hard to do constantly. I am retired from work and I had jobs where I sat for most of the day. I've always exercised with muscle training, bike riding, and some walking. It helped but it never went away. But lately, since I've retired, the swelling is less than it used to be and there are times when I would forget that I have that problem. Maybe I just need to see Jesus walking along a street and then I could touch his clothing, and it would go away. Wouldn't that be nice?

Just make sure you aren’t in heart failure. My mother who has always been healthy but never liked going to doctors. She started having edema in her lower extremities and went to the doctor and was given a diuretic pill and potassium pill to take but the edema wasn’t going anywhere. She started feeling weak and fatigued and we went to the ER and she was in AFib. Her whole life has changed so I would recommend going to the doctor and getting the proper testing to get the correct diagnosis.

All the vitamins you mentioned, I have taken on a regular basis the last 10+ years. That's why I was so surprised at how bad the swelling was this year. This is not related to legs/ankles swelling, but since I'm here, wanted to say HUGE thanks, because one of your vids made me figure out why my eye lids kept swelling up (and I mean BADLY). None of my docs would even suggest that could be the issue and they were just treating me for stupid allergies etc. while all I needed was to increase my potassium intake, as simple as that. Never had the problem since, literally saved my life :) What you're doing by sharing these vids/knowledge is priceless!

I like my beer, and switching to lo-carb beer and cutting down on my drinking, along with a low carb diet has helped a lot, (pretty much eliminated most of the swelling) but one ankle/foot that I injured about 4 months ago, still gets swollen every day. It's fine when I get out of bed, but after about an hour the effects of gravity kick in and my foot gets swollen again.

Great info, thanks. I have had this problem for some time and spent a year going to doctors and specialists and none of them ever told me anything like this. They just ran tests (some very expensive) and gave me prescriptions that did absolutely nothing. I'm going to try this out and hopefully it'll finally help me get over this.

I was having chronic loose stools for 4 months with upper gut pain because of a small intestinal protozoan infection and also sometimes descending colon pain, hopeless looking for remedies everywhere because synthetic antibiotics didn't cure it and then i came across your videos. ACV, kefir and your ultimate antibiotic cleared my infection within 1week, cabbage juice stopped the pain, everything is back to normal now after so much suffering. Your videos made me more aware of the importance of the gut microbiome. Again thank you for everything Dr Berg, forever grateful for the information you provide🙏

Some people can't be helped cuz they don't want it, they didn't ask for it. I have edema at only 43 years old and I watched my mother die from it at 44. Her legs, no her calves blew up from about 20 inches to 50 inches in just 6 months. It was scary, traumatizing even. So like you I am very Intune with my own body and what works for me and I tried offering what I have learned (unwanted advice) to other woman, since my mother didn't know what to do and now I do. But Older woman who are like 75 year olds, look at me, at my age and think.. "you don't know what your talking about." and quickly dismiss anything I say about it LOL so ofc they don't wanna listen.. they also never asked

@@nardip4999 I mean, yuh ofc, DUHH... but there is always more to it then just that. They discovered her liver was covered in cirrhosis scars 5 months before her death. but when her legs (calf) blew up from 15 inch's to 60 inches in diameter.. (in under a year) she gave up on life and who can blame her? so ya.. i think that killed her.. She had small amounts of water retention for about 20 years before this happened. There were so many warnings signs that we ignored for years and years as her doctor didn't know what advice to offer, other then to watch her diet, use compress socks.. and we ignored it. I mean, every woman retains water now and again right?

Stroke victims get neurological symptoms because muscles are paralyzed. I have had a massive stroke and my right leg is still paralyzed. I have edema on the right leg but not on the left. As I have gotten better control of the leg, the edema has gone down some. I still have swelling and edema but exercise has helped tremendously with it. My right arm had edema but it has gone away after I regained control of my shoulder muscles. I still don’t have control from my elbow down but the edema is long gone.
