A battery tender only maintains the amount of energy that's in it. If your battery is 55%, the tender maintains it at 55%. if you want 100%, you need to hook it up on the battery charger. Then you can put it on the tender to maintain that 100%.

When it comes to smaller batteries like motorcycle batteries, a tender will charge a battery to full charge. Most battery tenders switch to a "float mode" once the battery reaches a full charge to prevent overcharging. I just installed a new battery to my bike before the video. Got from Battery plus, it was not fully charged. It was at 12.1. The tender took it to 12.8 a full charge.

Leaving your bike covered for long periods of time causes mold and rust. Regardless of what cover you have.

Fogging Oil is a good idea . Perfect for Carburated Bikes , remove air filter , open throttle blast for a few seconds , crank motor couple turns , repeat . Protects carb venturi tube . Remove plugs to treat F. I. engines Replace plugs after fogging and cranking .
@bobandtams
@bobandtams Ай бұрын
Yes that would be a good extra step. Oil today should coat all parts and last through the winter.

Great video. Battery tenders are so cheap compared to a new battery. I can’t believe more people won’t invest in one. I struggle in my area because the non ethanol gas available doesn’t meet the Harley-Davidson octane requirements so I treat my premium gas. I don’t know what’s better, premium treated or non-ethanol wrong octane?
@bobandtams
@bobandtams Ай бұрын
If riding daily ethanol will not hurt, I put ethanol free if I know their will be a time my bike sits between rides for a month or more.
@jagjr6772
@jagjr6772 Ай бұрын
@ I thought so to until I felt like the “ mad chemist” every time I gassed up. The non-ethanol still has to be treated and now adding in an octane booster. The measurements for the small quantities in a motorcycle gas tank proved too inconvenient for me.

@@jagjr6772 What size engine do you have?
@jagjr6772
@jagjr6772 Ай бұрын
@ 107 and 114. I’ve tried non-ethanol 87 (only available) with an octane booster or premium 92 with an ethanol treatment. I feel like the “mad chemist” trying to measure quantities for the gas tanks every time. Really inconvenient plus octane booster is not cheap. So, I fall back on Premium with ethanol and Amsoil’s Fuel Stabilizer or Ethanol Shield.
@bobandtams
@bobandtams Ай бұрын
@jagjr6772 I've got the 110 with a larger vam than stock. I don't run it hard.. I never add octane boaster to my bike. If I have a long trip, I use premium with ethanol in it.
@Charger1908
@Charger1908 25 күн бұрын
That stabil is crap, use Ethanol Shield, I know this works because a KZbinr that I respect uses this in her small engine repair shop. She did a test with a few different fuel additives and this stuff actually works. Amazon sells it but it’s a bit more pricey.
@bobandtams
@bobandtams 25 күн бұрын
@Charger1908 I've had a friend for the last 20 years using stability and have had no issues when Spring rolled around. I will look into ethanol shield. Water is not the only issues with stored gas. you need fuel stabilizer to stored gasoline can slow down the oxidation process.
