Great, clear video. Good to see someone with an agronomy degree helping the skeptics to understand about herbicides from the point of view of scientific knowledge. Agree though applying in a wind isnt the best idea. I would normally wear safety glasses when spraying and definitely if it is windy. Shame we dont have access to this mix in the UK.

Yeah, it's amazing how much fear can spread with little to no backing behind it. I'd rather not use herbicide either, but I feel it's safe and I had an internship with a third-party research firm that tested herbicides and pesticides before they even get to the consumer market. Might take away… It's very hard and expensive to get a product to the market. It's been thoroughly tested. Not to say there may not be long-term effects we don't know about, but that's the dame with literally everything else in life, such as wifi/cellphone waves.

@@HandymanHertz Absolutely, I used to work alongside the EPA to get registrations for agrochemicals. you wouldn't believe how many hoops we had to jump through to get approval, the EPA are really tough on health and safety to the consumer for good reason, but they are balanced too, they know we need this stuff for certain jobs.

Is there any issue with leakage and the Ortho GroundClear? I have a rock area I'm exploring weed prevention options for and I just wouldn't want to inadvertently poison any neighboring shrubs. Great vid - thanks!
@HandymanHertz4 ай бұрын
Hmmm great question. I can't tell you for sure, but I have sprayed this around shrubs and it's never migrated and killed them. In fact, at the end of the video, I spray it next to my hostas and it's still thriving. I have a 6 week review video I'll explain this on coming in the next week or two.

I will tell you that Ground Clear will wash into the surrounding area, especially if it’s not flat. I sprayed for weeds in areas where I have mulch and rocks, and because of the grade, the Ground Clear washed into my grass and has killed it. Unfortunately I’ll have to wait until next year to plant new seed. I didn’t expect that it would wash that much once dry, so don’t spray too heavily, or play it safe and use Roundup instead of Ground Clear in areas that you are worried about runoff.

@HandymanHertz2 ай бұрын
No! This will kill the soil for one year. Nothing will be able to grow in it even if you put sod on top. You need to spray something like a general weed and grass killer, the link in my description, or something that doesn't reside in your soil for more than a couple days.

At Tractor Supply, 1 Gal of Ortho is $30.00 & 1 Gal of RM43 is $80.00. Ortho requires 24 Oz per Gal of water, while RM43 requires 6 Oz per Gal of water. 1 Gal of Ortho makes 5.3 Gals of sprayable product, while 1 Gal RM43 makes 21.3 Gals of sprayable product. This equals $5.67 per sprayable Gal of the Ortho vs $3.75 per sprayable Gal of RM43. They both kill all vegetation a long time. I have used both and stuck with RM43 because the savings adds up over time.
@HandymanHertz6 ай бұрын
Interesting, that's great to know, thanks for sharing and breaking down the numbers 👍🏼
@HandymanHertz6 ай бұрын
I might add that the 2 gallon jug of ortho should be considered if using against the rm43 in terms of vale. It's 49.99 on Amazon, which brings it down to $25/gallon instead of $30. This makes it $3.94/usable gallon of spray for ortho, which is almost equal to rm43 @ $3.75/gallon. My Math: 256 ounces of ortho (2gal)/24 (ounces that you add to 1 gallon of water) makes 10.66 "batches". Each batch is 1.19 gallon (1 gallon water with 24oz groundclear). So, 10.66*1.19=12.68 gallons of sprayable solution solution. $50/12.68= $3.94 per gallon of sprayable solution. Too much math for the morning. 😵💫 Rm43 uses glyphosate as one active ingredient which has become resistant to a lot of weeds, and has become the target in "potential cancer causing" discussions amongst some groups of ppl. I dont buy into that, personally, but it's something for people to consider.

You're right I could see where that could be confusing. This is only about groundclear. The other two are for different applications. I only mixed ground clean with water and some coloring. 2,4-D: kills broadleaf weeds but does not kill grass. Roundup/grass and weed killer: kills all grass and broadleaf weeds, but there's no residual or carryover herbicide left in the ground. It will kill everything, but weeds can germinate and grow in that ground.
@SonicBoomC985 ай бұрын
I might get this, but i might really need some type of total vegetation killer. A friend used to get something from an herbary nearby. My neighbors have too much weeds, growth, and brush growing along the fence line and they really pay no attention the 2 or 3 feet closest to me. I also have an area i need to completely clear out. I don't care if grass or anything ever grows there again. I also have 1 spot in my front and back yard where tree fell and brush has become a problem ever sense

You, GeoundClear is what you want if you want a total vegetation killer that kills it and keeps it killed for a year.
