Whenever I need a little motivation (69 year old who weight 152kg and now weighs 95) when I just don't feel like squatting 3x85kgx5 or over heading 3x55kgx5... I come back and watch this intro again. I have been working on Sully's program for just on three years now. My start deadlift was a struggling 40kg it is now 120kg. My squat was 25kg it's now 90kg, my start overhead (and in my opinion the most difficult of all lifts to progress) was the empty bar and is now 55kg and my bench struggled at 25kg and now struggles at 75kg :). It is like magic, like John is Yoda sharing the force. This is not a fad it becomes a lifestyle. It embeds itself into you DNA and if you miss a session or two (covid in my case) you are laying there feeling like there is a big hole in your life and you are busting to get under the bar again. In fact, my covid experience was interesting and, whilst I have nothing but an anecdotal opinion, I am convinced that I sailed through it BECAUSE I was strong and healthy. God knows what it might have been like if I was the man who started the getting thin and fit project 6 years ago. Anyway, I thank Dr John every time I walk up to the bar. I hate the way that you are always lifting your heaviest weight on this program :) but I love it just as much. I can't recommend this "lifestyle" enough to any athlete of the aging... all you have to do is get under a bar and push it up... the rest takes care of itself. Cheers Tony

This is awesome! I'm nearing 50 and while I've lost 145 lbs over 4 years, I've been itching to do strength training.

The best strength training in America takes place at the Greysteel Gym. Training there with "Sully", Dr. Sullivan has been a extraordianary life changer for me.

So excited.. Im a sleep technologist and was frustrated with my patients declining health and inclining number of meds. I started strength training, found starting strength, then you. I am working on getting SSC then have a dream of opening up a gym like yours in the Seattle area.... all of that to say, I am so glad you are putting out this and other content--TY!

Your channel appeared during some research on retirement, and I am glad it did. Watched several informative and, dare I say, life changing videos before hitting upon this, the first one. I plan to share the barbell prescription with a good friend facing the very aging issues you created this channel to combat. Perhaps he will join me in the gym.

Thanks for leading the way, Sully! At 71, the stronger I get the more I'm motivated to share what I've learned with my contemporaries, or at least those who are willing to work a bit to vastly improve their quality of life.

An excellent beginning and Beethoven on top of it all! We love training at Greysteel. My wife and I are both involved at Greysteel and we are both around 70. We have older and younger clients but we are all healthier and stronger as the days and months progress. Subscribe and join us at the gym.

subscribed-very well written and presented. I hope you don't plan to make a lot of money doing this. The words "Quick and Easy" are never spoken by you-however "hard work, commitment and dedication" are repeated in the series. Not common traits in the general population. Being Healthy takes effort- but the Sick aging phenotype is so damn easy to acquire. Like Rip says, " easy doesn't work!". I applaud your efforts and love your message-I'll do my best to share your channel. Some will get it through their heads.

Thank you for great videos! Please what do you think about situation in Emergency medicine nowdays. What would you say please is the percentage of accidens/traumas/injuries compared to cases in which emergency situation was created by chronic dieseases caused primarly by bad lifestyle (sedentary, bad nutrition....) ? Thank you!

Hello, great, and honest stuff you have for those getting up in years. I do have one question - you talk a lot about dumb bells, and bar bells; I don't have that type of space, so all I have are exercise bands. What id your thought on strength training using exercise bands?

Hello. Thanks for the wonderful series of videos. I'm a vegan so I'm always on the lookout for great vegan protein supplements. The video mentioned a link for protein supplements, but I cannot find it. What are you recommendations for a vegan looking for protein supplements.
