As a cello player a nearly 6 years I know how hard this instrument can be, took me 3 years to get to the skill of which you are playing. Wish you luck on future preferences etc cetera.

Some tips from a cello player who has played for about 4 years. 1. Try to keep your pinkee finger on your bow hand more rounded, this may be that you are stiff playing. 2. To remove stiff fingers in the bow hand, allocate the weight to the wrist, and when playing closer to the frog of the bow, have a more curled rwrist. 3. You are playing way to close to the fingerboard, and that's why you cannot get the creschendo you're hoping for. It may seem from your position that you are halfway through between the bridge and the fingerboard, but by this video, you're not. Research something called bow lanes, each lane will provide a different tone so that could creshendo. Generally it's good to be in lane 3, or the middle between the bridge and the finger board. 4. In order to creshendo as well you must put more pressure on your bow and more bow speed. 5. Change your bow to a wood bow (you will have to try them out bc they are wood and not each one is the same), it improves the tone qualitiy by alot. 6. I also reccomend getting professional rosin, good ones around 30 dollars, and research how to rosin your bow correctly for best sounds. 7. Eventually you should upgrade your instrument, make sure to rent and not buy so repair prices are cheaper to none (at least for my music store - shar music) 8. Put some passion into your playing, what I mean by this is sway when you play (let it come naturally) and move with the music and tones 7. Creshendo rising notes usually and decreshendo lowering notes usually. 8. Use way more bow, you should be using the entire bow, it will improve your sound by a lot, 9. When you're playing fast moving parts, play in the balance point and do not use much bow but use your wrist and its flexibility. It's also a good thing to always start at the balance point if you're playing a song or practicing unless the dynamics say otherwise. (usually louder dynamics start at the frog and softer ones more at 2/3 of the bow). I would also reccomend grabbing tape and mark each third of your bow and learn to practice there. 10. be confident, and don't lose it, you will ultimately play better when you're confidant 11. As you learn to vibrato it will teach you to be more flexible as vibrato can only be played with more flexible fingers. Also great to loosen full body tension, shoulders, arms, legs, etc. 12. Pointer, your bow should be a straight line, but the wood should have some curve to it, if you did not realize when you tighten your bow, your wood piece goes from super curvy to more straighter. Make sure u tight your bow enough where it's a curve wood but a pitch straight hair. I do like that your fingering patterns are spot on, and that you can move swiftly with them. However, if you're playing with 3rd finger I do reccoemdn to press with atleast the second finger two as it's most natural, this will be excluded if you are using vibrato. Some resources I reccomend: If you have a wolftone (reserach into that) get this: www.swstrings.com/product/accessories/cello/WEC and place it 3/4 of the way towards your bridge from tailpiece. Rosin: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0852SD5JF/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=divam-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B0852SD5JF&linkId=d48476400d321d6697b35a0d4a63096f&th=1 For your bow, get a wood bow from a music store, usually around 100 dollars for a good one, and test it with their rosin on your instrument, test multiple. Pick the one that best suits you. Have a good day!

For the wolftone get a 11g one for a full size cello (4/4)

Wow amazing progress. Great tone, intonation and musicality. One thing I noticed, and probably only because I do it too, is sometimes the second finger on your left hand floats in the air. My teacher used to tell me about it all the time as she didn't want me to get in a bad habit. But honestly that's just being super nit picky because your playing is fantastic and I can't wait to see how you progress.

Thank you so much. My teacher did mention it before. Thank you for mention it, i will definitely try to fix that too. Keep it up with yours as well.

They said try to keep the finger close to the finger board. Try put 2nd finger down every time you play with the 3rd finger. Same with 2nd and 3rd down when you play the 4th finger.

Solid progress in an year! I dusted off my cello after 12 years because my son just started playing. Can't wait to see what another year of progress will do for you. For shrilling open string, putting extra weight down on your bow arm when beginning the note helps clean it up. Good luck!

That’s awesome. Thanks for the tip. I will definitely try it out. And keep on with your music! Can’t wait to see yours too.

One tip to be able to not have a squeaky open a or any open string is that you need to always rosin your bow and for the 2nd tip put less pressure on your bow

As someone who’s in High School and playing level 6 violin pieces, I can say that even though I’ve been playing cello for a year, it is a very difficult. I figured at first that some of the violin skill would transfer over but they really didn’t. Amazing progress!

Great job! You already have a great sense of rhythm (as a result of piano I am guessing) and you are improving super quickly! Since somebody else already talked about the slight lift on your second finger on your left hand, I'd suggest not always lifting up your left hand when you change positions in it-this could help smooth the shifts in the Prelude of Bach Suite 1. But I'm nitpicking-this is amazing progress for just 1 year!
@itst1783 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I need those criticisms to improve my playing. I do find it awkward to shift in some position sometimes. Thank you for pointing that out for me.

Wow that’s so good for a year!! I’ve been playing cello for nine years (like how long you’ve been playing piano). One thing I noticed was that your right elbow is quite locked when you play and you rely on your shoulder to pull the bow. Try to unlock that elbow and use it to pull your bow - minimise the use of the shoulder a bit. But other than that, it’s looking really good :))
@itst1783 Жыл бұрын
Hey thank you so much for pointing that out. I didn’t even notice and now i know. To be honest i have learned so much from you guys since i start posting these clips. I am so grateful that everyone didn’t hesitate to point out things to be improved. Thank you again. Wish you the best on your musical journey.

You're already doing slight vibratos?? Wow 🥲 I've been playing for 7 years and finally starting to get the hang of vibrato after 1 year. Damn. Your complete 1 year intonation, took me 3 years to reach that level. 😭

Thank you. I have been play piano for about 9 yrs now so it did help me a lot with reading music and finding intonation. 7 years is a long way to go can’t wait till i get there. Keep it up!!!
