A quick lockdown synopsis of 1 year at the A-Frame Cabin. It's a great weekend getaway and going to keep it as a little escape.

Last week I purchased a bunch of logs to build my off grid cabin. Little 12x12 on 3 acres I bought. My father and I are currently knotching them. Hopefully in the next month we can start building. Can't wait. Your vids, along with The Outsiders, and TA Outdoors were my inspiration. Thanks for the great vids!

I just found your videos last night and loved watching the process of building your A-Frame. I live near New York City and I just purchased 3 acres of land about 4 hours north, what I love about it is that it's a wooded area that gives you some nice peace and quiet. I am going back and forth on if I should build a log home or an A-Frame and I am now leaning towards an A-Frame after checking out your videos and others as well. You're right on the size, I want to build a little bigger so there is a good sized loft area and where I can have more guests stay and also maybe make it into a vacation rental property so others can enjoy it when I am not there. Good luck on your next project

Glad to see that people are still able to do things like this. This project came out great, it really is inspiring. Unfortunately, regulations and draconian building codes have made stand-alone cabins like this very difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish in the state where I live. 'Tiny homes' are functionally illegal here. I'd have to move to a neighboring state if I wanted to try something like this.

Been watching this from the start and it has given me so many awesome ideas! I'm currently trying to save for a piece of land that I can build something small like this or maybe frame up an old trailer bed and make it into something. It's just much more expensive down here in CA. Thanks for the great content. Hope to see more soon!
@AndrewSzeto
@AndrewSzeto 4 жыл бұрын
oh for sure! i hear you on that. Seems like it's a good idea to build it on a trailer bed, to avoid permitting. Luckily it's a lot warmer down there too, so you can hopefully avoid going as crazy as we did with the insulation. Use rockwool if you can afford it! Good luck with everything and hmu if you need anything!

I asked if you built these earlier, you said you didn't. Love your work. My wife is from Finland and her mom and dad had a sauna in the basement. I took one sauna in it, I couldn't stand it, I couldn't breath. I suppose if I would have brought my scuba set up with me I could have stood it, but not my cup of tea. If you have never taken one you should try one before you invest.

Marc Miller realtor.ca, putting feelers out there and tuning into the areas you want to be in. my friend was actually a neighbor a few doors down and he knew of the property for sale and alerted me (all because i put the vibes out there). usually a 10x10 is construed as a shed, so it's generally under permit size

Hi Andrew, my name is Mike and I just retired. I looked at relaxed shacks with Deed and I like it but it is just to small. There is no insulation, it just wouldn't work for me. I'm allowed up to 200 sq. feet in my state without a permit and yours is much more fitting. I'm a total novice at building, I think I can do it!!! I can do it! So my question to you are the plans available??
@TheGrantAlexander
@TheGrantAlexander 4 жыл бұрын
Great lessons learned! Could you build the "square" as the new cabin and then use the A frame as the storage spot? Or just build a second bigger A frame, then the first could be used for when guests come to visit? I had often looked into property on the Quebec side as it's so much cheaper than the Ontario side, but the current restrictions give me yet another reason not to. I guess I'll just keep saving and waiting!

Dude, I'm in complete shock right now! I live in the Black Sea coast of Russia, at the foot of the mountains of the Caucasus. And in this, not the most prosperous country, land prices in this area are MUCH higher than in Canada. For 1/40 acre, you need to give 200,000 Russian rubles (~ 4000 CAD). Maybe I understood something is wrong? Could the word "acre" mean "are"? (as a conventional unit)

It would be nice if there was some kind of mechanism to expend the house and add another level like a “drawer” where the house could expand its “wings” like a butterfly (roof &walls) ... I am not sure how to explain it

Andrew Szeto nice! Do you imagine being able to transform the design and space by installing commercial massive hinges at the peak of the roof and open the roof like wings and extend the floor (that you can pull out like drawers from underneath the permanent floor and level it with “legs” ) -just being able to transform this beautiful tiny house seasonally would be beautiful 😀 ..you can have more people coming over and then when you are by yourself put it back to what it’s original design! -/ if only things were this easy, right? Love your beautiful cabin!

oooh i use realtor.ca - also worthwhile growing a bit of a network. this was a private sale from the neighbor of a friend. folks knew that i was fairly obsessive about trying to do this and when a deal popped up, someone let me know, and i jumped on it. definitely a bit of luck involved.
