Your 37s is what’s cooking your transmission. The high temp transmission light doesn’t come on until it’s really hot you most likely have burnt fluid which reduces lubrication you should change out the fluid

I own a 22 tundra limited hybrid with 15k miles out on it now, and I honestly feel that the lag you are feeling is due to the engine ECU being programmed for a hybrid motor to be installed. I have heard about this lag alot with many non-hybrid owners, but owning the hybrid I can tell you that the "lag" you feel is removed by the hybrid motor on initial accelerating then the engine kicks on and it's such a smooth transition. It's like they never account for that and just did a standard program for all engines hybrid or not.

Great video_ I recently bought a Limited 4WD TRD OR (NH)- and I really like it (Ive driven it 2 weeks now. The truck was built in August of 2022 and I have not had any lag issues. I had a 2007 Tundra SR5 so I also was impressed by all the cool gadgets the new truck has as you were. I bought It with 17 K miles so It was helpful to hear your year review. Nice looking truck.

There is a TSB Update for the throttle lag as well as the start up clunk noise you get every once in a while. They are the same TSB code. Your local dealer should know the code. It took care of both of these issues for me.

Also if you replace the silver tie down points in the bed of the truck with a higher quality set it should take care of the rattle. It is not actually the bed rattling. It worked for a few other KZbinrs, I have yet to try it myself.
@OverlandOutfitters

In my case it is the bed rattling against the frame, also confirmed by Toyota when I brought it in the first time.

Did you re-gear for the 37's? If not, that will likely resolve your transmission heat issue and improve the fuel economy.

I definitely agree that the throttle lag in the regular driving mode is pretty bad. I switch to sport mode any time I will be on highways and it seems to clean it up a lot. Do you think the overheating issues have anything to do with being on 37's? I am running 33's and have a bit over 25k on my truck including several long road trips and the New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route and I have never had that issue
@OverlandOutfitters
@OverlandOutfitters Жыл бұрын
37s are likely the biggest cause of it, but I ran 37s on my 2006 Tacoma and never overheated the trans. A regear would likely help
@ryanm5626
@ryanm5626 Жыл бұрын
The issue is probably likely to happen when driving up steeper off road trails at lower speeds due to less airflow to cool things down.
@tombusselle9844
@tombusselle9844 11 ай бұрын
It's the high-stall torque converter they use that causes excessive heat when it slips. Best bet is to slap it in tow/haul mode or manual shift mode so it can hold lower gears longer. If off-roading, 4-Lo will cut down on a lot the overheating warnings as well.

Just curious, and the order of the mods may not have been right to find this out, did you have the transmission cooling issue with the 37s but before the bumper install? It does look like it blocks some of the airflow to the bottom of the radiator where those integrated ATF coolers typically live. If it was already borderline with the big tires, a little loss in airflow might be the final straw. Unrelated, my buddy just got back with some fuel cans and a trasharoo from your shop for me, stoked for the goodies so thank you!

It's a good point, and honestly one that I hadn't really thought too much about. That could definitely be a part of it! Maybe I'll try relocating the tranny cooler up higher and see if it makes a difference!

I've done worse than what you described about the transmission over heating. I've not had that happen to me. I've pulled up and over the rocky mountains in Colorado and I offroad alot too. The throttle lag I fully agree and I've taken it in and they say it's normal cause it's a teen speed transmission.

Something up with that overheating tranny. I’ve hauled/towed a lot with my 22 OR including towing 6000lb with a loaded bed in 45’c temps through the Cascades highway. If there was a time for an overheat that would be it.

There is no way your tranny should be over heating I have a 22 sr5 and tow a 16 ft trailer and have up to 11k lbs and never had a issue with over heating. Take that back to Toyota and demand they fix it along with the bed rattling. I hate rattling noise in new trucks. Tell ‘em to fix it! Overall I love my new tundra no issues so far! Oh and I get 14 miles per gallon while Towing and 17 when combined without it.
