Because of the latest storm blowing through I turned to KZbin to keep me company whilst crocheting. Saturday uploads are a bit thin on the ground but your channel popped up on my home page. I watched most of your year and today, Sunday, this little gem. What a beautiful synopsis of your highs & lows of the year, brought tears to my eyes because despite the lows every bit of love you are pouring into your home shows & you are uncovering the love others poured in before you. I cannot believe how much you have achieved whilst working & travelling to and fro, just maintaining your land so well is a feet in itself. I wish you all the best going forward & can’t wait to see how you get on ❤

Awh thank you so so much, this is such a lovely comment to get ❤️ I’m so glad you found the videos! And yes I’m trying to pour as much love in as possible to try and respect the people before me who put everything they had into this old place! My sister actually just took up crocheting and I’m so impressed with it I’m going to try and learn how to do it! Once upon a time I was able to knit but I must brush up on doing that! ❤️

Hi Aisling, I think you should sit back and re watch this video, you have actually come quite far. You have been living 3 hours away, working and only been able to spend short periods at the cottage up to now, considering the time put in, the progress is a lot more than you give yourself credit for. You have done well, the new year will bring much bigger changes, with you being able to spend more time in situ :) Be kind to yourself, it has been a drawn out period of mostly waiting, but progress can be seen x

Oh no. 😳 Not the bright blue paint! jk. I still find it hard to see the beauty of a Greek vibe in an Irish cottage but the choice is ofc entirely yours. I believe things happen for a reason. Had you had builders on day 1 you may not have learned what you’re capable of doing. You may not have the confidence you’re going to need to survive on a homestead. Wow, what a yea of challenges & lessons learned. You’ve only just started & im here for the ride. Congratulations on 1 year Aisling. Take care ✌️🥶🩵🤍

Thank the algorithm for recommending this to me. A lovely watch. Fair play to you for all the work. Very impressive. Our poor cottages were really treated badly and knocked around from the 60’s on with grants for extensions etc. We’re undoing the damage now… I couldn’t believe that pile of rubbish but I also could. Typical of a certain generation in Ireland. People trying to burn stuff that won’t burn and leaving wood to rot that could go in the stove, I ask you! A two wheel sickle bar mower will make taking care of that grass a doddle. A really good investment with 4 acres to look after. Very envious of your outbuildings too. Can’t wait to see more. Subscribed now and best of luck from Co Kilkenny 🎉
@morrigans_cottage4 күн бұрын
Ah thank you so much, and that's brilliant to know about a sickle bar mower, I've never even heard of that but just looked it up and definitely something that I need!! Once I have the renovations done in Feb I'll look to getting one of those! These poor old houses really weren't shown much love, and the person who owned my previously really did a lot of harm to it, but it'll get brought back to scratch in the end :) I absolutely love Kilkenny! One of the best counties!

Great discovery video! It is however wise to have repurchase inspections done first. Which includes rising damp and leaks as well as pest report. You need simple upright trolleys to transport the trash from the back. Lifting would be very hard on your back and your father's back and tired you both out. You could try putting down planks on the ground to do this. The roof looks ok but rising damp worries me that you may need drainage around the foundations and excavate and insert waterproof lining. It is however utterly charming, and to Australian eyes...impossibly green! The pond out the back is a bonus!
@morrigans_cottage3 күн бұрын
So I did actually have a pre purchase inspection, rising damp is minimal at the house but there is just in general a lot of damp. We’re going to get a digger in to do the rest of the of it! And hello to Australia! It’s on my bucket list to visit out that way one day!

You have done well hon, its a daunting task when the previous owners use the land as a dump, cant imagine why anyone would do that!. The old farm we bought the owner wanted to leave the horse!! sadly it was psycho and we had no clue about horses, he came and collected the poor thing lol. You will have great days and crap days but all in all at the end you will have made a beautiful space for you and all your rescue animals. I do envy you the snow, thats the only thing I miss about the UK, a possible white Christmas , been here for 60+ years.

Hi what a big project you have first use the trees for a garden raised bed dry out the timber for a wood stove it will les the cost of a skip plus dry out the house If you have any airbord left over it could be used to inslate the water tank. If there is long bordes from the pile of timber they would help in walk in the attice not on rafters. Another thing could be to contact a goat farmer that would lend you some goat to cut all of that grass they would have to be wired in but they do a grate job and also in walk they increase drainage. I hope these tip are useful plus in plastering your walls with lime sand and Cork tile pellets they help with insulation the walls again. Yours Brendan

i would remove all the internal walls and ceilings and gutted the place then have stud partitions between rooms it would make rooms bigger and a poured floor through out the building, the internal layout would be exactly what you wanted. Just a thought.

Ah thank you appreciate the thought! I am hoping to bring the cottage back to its old traits rather than remove walls and things like that, it also just isn't in the budget to do something like that, but I appreciate the suggestions

Hi Aisling - may I ask what the music is that you have playing during this episode? I’ve been following your journey with interest. It’s been great watching you grow in confidence!

Can I ask why you wanted to reinstate a door between the two bedrooms? I know that it would have originally been for parents to check on their children easily but it seems a bit odd from yours to a guest bedroom ?Also is there a tip nearby to take rubbish to save on the cost of skips?Great to watch your progress in confidence as well as renovation 😊
@morrigans_cottage10 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! So that doorway originally would have gone between the living room and bedroom of the house! It's now going to go between the main bedroom and the home office/informal living room. I had planned to make it a bedroom but my mom said it would make more sense to have it as an office and use the third room as a bedroom

Asbestos. Have you had an asbestos check done before ripping apart things?
@morrigans_cottage5 күн бұрын
No asbestos thankfully, also use a mask that prevents asbestos particles being breathed in :)

Great video, curious how much you originally paid for it but understand if you prefer not to reveal, thx

I don't mind at all! I had popped it into a previous q and a because it gets asked a lot so you're not the first to ask! It cost 110k, which was down from the listing price of 120k. Even with all the problems I think I got a good deal considering the property market right now

Yeah really really awful, but apparently very common in rural Ireland to have trash piles like this

Glad you enjoyed the video, the music won't be to everyone's taste, I wanted it more plain as it's just background noise

You are so talented! If I may, please don’t use so much music. It’s very distracting and unnecessary.

The music. It's too much. You worked hard. Either softer background music or periods of silence

Thanks, I like the music but can't get it to everyone's taste. Twas a busy year!

That music is very annoying. Can you turn it down? Or better stull turn it off?
@morrigans_cottage3 күн бұрын
Hi! Unfortunately can't please everyone with the music, it's on quite low and most people like it but will totally take the feedback on board

I love you videos, but I really don’t enjoy the repetitive music that repeats and repeats. Please just let us hear your voice. The color of your legs matches mine as well.
@morrigans_cottageКүн бұрын
Hi, ah welcome to the pale leg gang lol! The music I think is a personal preference, a lot of people like to have some (I call it elevator music) in the background and some don't. It's hard to get the balance right but I prefer to have something there so it's not silence when I'm not taking
