So its been one season using the Cobra lawn mower and in this video I give an honest review. I run a gardening business and grass cutting forms 90% of my garden maintenance. Its really important to have a good reliable lawn mower and I consider this to be just that.

After years of using Rover Pro Cut 560,s(4 bladed) mowers I now use Stihl RM655v mowers as they pick up grass in monsoon weather, secrets the non fabric collector box, I used Weibang but there bags clog up in the wet after a few days wet mowing, Stihl RM655v are in the premium expensive category but I get more done in the rain, more equals £££. So they pay for themselves 👍🏻

Try getting a hi lift blade for your mower as they seem to do alot better in the wet. Sometimes if it is really wet and long I just rear or side discharge (whatever you have) and then use the leaf rake and blower only takes a couple extra minutes on a small garden plus the smaller engines seem to bog down less when discharging as opposed to bagging. Hope this helps.

Great video as always. Similar comment to what I put on your izy vid, would apply to the cobra mower. Keep blade sharp and turn up the revs on the cobra. There are KZbin vids out there on turning up revs on Briggs engines. But always get my mower man to do it, as he knows the limit

I use the big brother to this one, it has 18 inch cut and rear roller, it's been faultless so far, only downside I've found is it's a bit slow

Hiya buddy. Hope your well. You are my go to for any gardening advice and you never fail us so a very big Thank-you to you. Iv used a cobra self propelled rear roller for two years. I now have the option of buying a honda izzy 18 self propelled for £250. In my opinion the cobra is too heavy,lack manoeuvrability and even when slightly damp it leaves skid marks on the lawns. The rear roller is only useful for flat lawns and I very rarely come across lawns that are perfectly flat. Should i make the purchase? Many thanks

@Jazzy-l8z although I've never used one, they are a popular choice. I wouldn't be able to cut most of my lawns with a roller so definitely a good idea buying a mower without one mate

@TheGreyGardener1990 hey thanks for the reply. Your right and maybe I can keep the cobra as a backup. Really appreciate you taking the time to help us amateur folk out. Iv bought it today and I'm over the moon with it. It's like a feather compared to my cobra and so easy to manoeuvre. It also fits nicely in the boot of my car without the need to collapse the rear seats. I bought it second hand but its never been used and dry stored in a garage. An absolute bargain for £280. I'm actually looking forward to Monday morning.(weather permitting) I might even post a review of it on KZbin to help others like me to decide. Happy gardening. Thankyou

Wether you've been in the business for a year, or 30, like me. You can never stop learning! Been looking at a Cobra roller mower, as I bought a mower a couple of years ago, and it has been nothing but hassle! Hoping to retire in a couple of years, so don't want to invest too much in a new mower. I do have a KAAZ, which is very similar to a high end Cobra. Any advice on the reliability of the engine is welcome. Not looking to spend anything over £600 really!

I find even with the big Honda I use sometimes, you get a slight bit of rain and it can’t throw the grass back into the box like it should. The best machine I’ve used in the wet is the Viking (made by stihl). I also like rear rollers, a more desired finish that customers tend to like (in my experience) Good video!

Etesia work very well in wet grass, expensive to buy new so worth buying a used machine and changing the belts cables and blade and effectively you then have a new machine.

@maintainyourgarden there are often used ones on ebay, the pro 46 being most popular. They are commercial machines and very well made . Provided you do the drive and blade belt and the cables, they are a safe used buy and go on for years as polymer or cast alloy decks. You can get the belts and cables easily enough online and all are easy enough to change. Honda or kawasaki engines usually.

To be honest I'm not clued up with all the makes and models and often need advice myself. One of the best places is premier lawns. They are on youtube but probably better than that, they have a Facebook group. Lawn and lawn mower fanatics on there, so I'd definitely have a look. I do also have a few mower videos and lots of comments are mower related and which different mowers people use.

Hi mate i am new to the mowing and have been advised by a friend who is a gardener to buy a 21" masport. Do you think this would be OK for the standard lawn?
@TheGreyGardener1990
@TheGreyGardener1990 Жыл бұрын
I don't have much experience with different mowers in all honesty. I've always used an 18" mower and I'd probably find anything bigger would be a bit heavy for my standard gardens. My current mower is fairly lightweight and easily manoeuvrable. Check out my lawn mower videos on here where I've asked for help. The comments are full of people advising me on which mowers they use. Hope that helps!

hello AW, thanks for an informative video 👍🏼 my question is how do you find the pick up? i know you said the collection leaves it at the front of the bag but does it collect it all from the lawn? at the moment i have a webb with a briggs and stratton engine and collection is terrible, i was looking at a cobra today in my local garden centre in northeast scotland, it was a self propelled with a push button start, it looks the real deal
@TheGreyGardener1990
@TheGreyGardener1990 Жыл бұрын
Yeah to be fair I've not issues with it. Just when it's wet it sometimes gets clogged but a lot of them do. I find I have to empty it 2 or 3 times more but then you should do that anyway as wet grass gets heavy.

Hi again mate, sorry been going through your videos as I'm sure you've spoken about this question before but trying to do quotes now and wondering what you charge for "first cuts"? Would you say double the charge, more or less than the every 2 weeks price going forward? Thanks again.
@TheGreyGardener1990
@TheGreyGardener1990 Жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, all depends really for me. If its a short ish length with established edges I may just price the first cut as I would a fortnightly cut. If I need to establish new edges or it's quite long then I'd charge more. Might stick an extra £20 on, if we're talking roughly. I know guys who do charge double so I guess it depends what's required and how badly you want the job etc

I buy 5 litres of fuel every 2 and a bit weeks roughly and that all goes in the mower. So that's like £6/£7 every 2 and half weeks. It really doesn't use much like.
