In this video I go over my overall experience with the tent while comparing characteristics vs my old Tepui Kukenam 3. Just how much of a difference does a $1500 price tag make?
As a disclaimer, I removed the original mounting rails from the Tepui to reduce the overall height and avoiding $150 mounting brackets. While some people might not have the same issues as me using the stock rails they are still attached by bolts which compress the 2 layers of sheet metal.
I've been extremely impressed by the SkyCamp Mini and some of the cons are negligible. Either way, hopefully this video helped you guys out!

I spent 120-150 days of the last year using my Skycamp Mini and agree on almost all of the points with the exception that I keep a small pillow, very light sleeping bag, and a flannel blanket in mine when it's closed. The trick is in placement. When I'm standing on the ladder looking into the tent, I lay the loosely-folded blanket flat across the top mattress section, push the sleeping bag all the way to the back, and put the pillow in the back left. If they're placed right, my camper closes without any problems. I can't fit anything else, though, without struggling to get the lock loops engaged - you might be able to fit a bit more than me since getting leverage to push down the shell is easier with the tent at the height you have it than when it's sitting atop my Jeep. Anyway, I hope that can help you free up a little space inside your cab! I'll also note that the way you're opening the ladder is not the recommended way - I think that iKamper recommend doing it in such a way that the rungs on top are compressed with the rungs on the bottom all expanded. You have the rungs in the middle compressed. I have no idea if it matters, though. Oh, I'd add that as a con too, though, now that I think of it. If you use the tent a lot in sandy areas, the sand infiltrates the ladder and it becomes VERY difficult to close up again. Gotta either hose it down or wait for a good strong rain to come and knock it out.

I’ve had mine about 1 1/2 yrs and used 150+ days when travelling around Australia. It’s still in good condition and no issues apart from a little tear on the canvas cover. This came from closing the mini in a hurry during heavy rain and canvas caught between clamp and lid. We repaired it with patch and no issues since. Two cons are condensation under mattress and inability to store decent sleeping bag and pillow. I keep a light bag/pillow during summer in tent, but can’t use heavy one in winter. I’m still impressed and believe new mattress in mini 3.0 reduces condensation.

Go to Home Depot or somewhere like that get yourself some adhesive carpet tiles this will massively help alleviate condensation. I would’ve loving to have bought one of those tents but the fact you can’t leave bedding inside would’ve just irritated the shit out of me I don’t know why they couldn’t make the shell just a little deeper to leave the bed up there. The fact that you have to go somewhere else and pull out the bed and then put it up into the tent means you cannot set the tent up in under a minute. Give me a tent set up means it’s ready to sleep in. So I call bullshit on a one minute set up.

Yeah, ive seen the carpet tile trick work on other people with this model. Being able to fit all the bedding in my old Tepui was awesome but then of course dealing with the giant cover negated the benefits. So far its not a huge hassle for me but is annoying.

@@PacificRoamer yes I'm just hoping they bring out a model where I'm able to leave the bedding up there and it would be nice if there was a solar panel on the top too that would be pretty awesome

I have seen a few people suggest this, or an anti condensation matt. Wouldn't the carpet tiles just absorb the moisture, and then mold themselves? I am planning on replacing the mattress myself with a air/foam self inflating mattress, any idea of that would address the condensation issues itself? That provides a bit more air between your body heat, and the metal floor. Thanks in advance!

am considering picking this model up used about 2k and wondering from someone whose had experience with it, if in great condition would that be justifiable or would it be better to just buy new?

Sorry for the late reply, but I've had this for just over two years now and its still in near perfect condition inside. Still has the new tent smell! I would just assess for any possible mold or wear/tear in the clamshell joint area.

So it's not worth the 3300-3500$ price they lost it for. I'm selling my roofnest sparrow today because I don't like how it overhangs over my cab of my truck. I'm looking at this because of its collapsed size. Its about the same price as the tent I had before but if it has alot of condensation build up and dust issues I dont think I want it. Seems like they over price it if you can't leave it on the truck without having to worry about mildew/mold and dust inside. Kind of defeats the purpose of a shelter.
@PacificRoamer
@PacificRoamer 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it definitely has it's trade offs. I still regret paying this much for it but I know it'll last me a few more years if not more. Regarding condensation it looks like installing adhesive carpet tiles should resolve that problem but the dust ingress is annoying but not huge for me. Having it be compact and easy to unpack is what really sold it in the end

I just ordered the mini 3.0 and I am coming from a tepui kukenan. is there a huge space difference? Not storage wise but just interior space.

Sorry for late reply, i'm assuming you already got it. I do miss the larger footprint of the Kukenam when it was open but the convenience of the Ikamper makes up for it.
