I'm shocked I wasn't at this show, given I lived in Oyster Bay LI at the time, and was going to college right next door at NYIT. I was either busy with my girlfriend (newly met but now long lost), or going to some Horror convention, or something. I was probably out of town, or else I'd have been here. I saw Midnight Oil here around the same time, I think, for the Blue Sky Mining tour. However I'd seen the Maniacs in 1988 at the Heartbeats (RumRunners) club in Oyster Bay, with an earlier GF, and wow was that a phenomenal show! Seeing them up close with the stage all of 10 ft. away, was something else. We were both stoked beyond belief to be there at all. It was freezing feckin cold out that night too, and my car heater was going overtime driving there. LOL We were dancing for an hour or more ahead of the show, they were doing the Ritz bit showing new wave videos up on the giant TV screen. Was so cool. There were some hardcore Maniacs fans there, trust me. I had my dancing pants on (!) and bolo tie, as well. It was 1988.

Well, no more John Lombardo, alas, but that's life. He came back later on. I keep reading that John says he quit because he was already frustrated a year or more before this, or three, that they weren't making any money. I"m not sure though why he expected them to be raking in the bucks by 1985, considering that many bands of the era, signed to major label deals and still never made a bloody dime, for so many reasons. They wouldn't have made much money from their early indie releases, anyway. And song royalties can take decades to show up, if ever. I wonder if there were other factors, since John soon started as a duo with Mary Ramsey, and he seemed to favor being the captain of his own ship, the two of them. And honestly, you cannot blame them. I would be the same way. I play guitar but solo for years, at home, I like to do things my own way. I do not like being told what to do, or what to play. Anyway, i miss the early era with Rob and John, because their guitar work was and is such a major inspiration. Rob also proved that you didn't have to be some asshole shredding cock rock guitar idjit to be a great guitarist. Same with John.

Amazing video... Anyone know if this was shot by amateur fan or band's professional videographer ?

If this was shot by a pro I'd hate to see his/her portfolio...the only value here is the historical value and of course seeing/hearing Natalie with the band at their height in any context, which is absolutely glorious!

@@fenwayify Yes good point :-) I was just thinking how cameras were used back then. In any case, yes Natalie was / is amazing.
