I first played the Sandy Denny/Fairport Convention version on KOME Radio, San Jose, CA when it was a true Progressive Radio Station where DJs played what they chose to play each show, each day. Don't know the exact date. Somewhere between 1971-1974. What Sandy wrote is timeless and truly one of the prettiest songs of all time. Judy Collins done it real right. And so does Mary here... 40 years later! Just terrific. If I was still on the radio, I'd play all three back to back on a regular basis. - Wopaho Joe. See Wikipedia for a summary of KOME's life. It got destroyed by programmers in the mid-70s, of course. God forgive them for they know not what they were doing back then. Just money and ratings that decimated exploration and exposing of great, new talents in favor of DJs who were jokesters instead of music lovers and promoters.
@10KMTVАй бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment, Joe. We all love Sandy Denny/Fairport and the song is indeed beautiful. We have a studio version of this song on our album "The Earth Pressed Flat." open.spotify.com/track/34aOR4x0XqJN43HdBdv2Fm?si=b139aea4d8e74092. The record companies had the same fate as radio. They were rolling in dough in the 80s and 90s with the advent of the CD but they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar and their pants down. We were fortunate to be on a major label when they invested in new talent. Technology constantly changes how music is made, distributed and profited from. It's a wild world.

I never heard of this fine group until about 1997 when I was on a trip to NY. I love NYC and walked all day in Manhattan as I did on other trips. Part of my walk was going across the Brooklyn Bridge and back to Manhattan. There was major film equipment and a very extensive camera on I think they call them dolly tracks, the works. If I recall there were 4 people that I imagined must be pretty famous. I asked on the side one of the crew people and he said they were of the group, "10,000 Maniacs". I later bought their album, a cassette tape, but don't remember the name of the album. I just remember they didn't sound as much like folk music on that album as they do here. I'm eclectic but like them performing this great folk song here. Nice to years later see them live here. I was walking then back across the bridge and saw some graffiti down low "Yuppicide" and suddenly the World Trade Center beyond and took a picture with the graffiti down low like a caption. So sad only a few years later all that happened that I feel we won't know the truth about for many years, like JFK, Bobby, Martin too, and Malcolm X. I wish I would have taken some pictures of 10,000 Maniacs too with that beautiful blue sky day with the beautiful blue sky people who know how to fly. Thanks 10MKTV for making this video!!
