@@oldfredbear there was also a defender’s hand around his ankle tripping him. This particular video doesn’t have it, but during the live broadcast they showed the slow motion replay over and over, and it was very clear that the defender grabbed his ankle and tripped him. The Spartans' best receiver, Courtney Hawkins, was hurt and didn't play in this game. Maybe if he'd played, MSU would have won by more than one point and avoided the controversial ending. It's also worth noting that a call went against MSU earlier in the game when an apparent Jon Vaughn fumble was taken back.

Notice that Dan Enos came up to the opposing QB after the game ended to clearly say something to the effect of "hey, good game, you guys are a heck of a team." How far away we are from that today.
@DonRamiro16 ай бұрын
He said SOMETHING like that but not quite. I actually asked him about this during or after an MSU basketball game. We were sitting in the same section and I asked him what he said to Grbac after the game. He said something about Grbac making a snide comment to him after the 89 game like "you guys have a nice little team" so Enos returned with a wise comment in kind. I don't remember the exact words but basically it was a get even comment for what Grbac said the year prior.

I miss that pre-game music. To me ABC college football was IT. This was a great game. I lived on the same floor with Bob Guiney the year before in Akers Hall. I ran into him at the 7-11 downtown East Lansing after the game. I can remember MSU being 14 point dogs but I knew we had a really good team based on how we should've beaten Notre Dame earlier in the year. And that weekend had the best autumnal weather I have EVER experienced but too bad I was back home in Detroit having to attend classes on both Friday and Saturday for getting pinched on a DUI the year before. It was either this weekend or Thanksgiving weekend and I chose this weekend. I still regret it.

Shows that pre-season rankings are a waste of time. Obviously Michigan was not the number 1 team in the nation. They ended with a 4 way tie for first place with Michigan State, who coming in had a losing record. It's awesome that we beat the number 1* team in the nation but they were definitely not as tough as a number 1
