I’ve only recently become interested in buying one of these and just got to put a few rounds through one at a local gun shop that had a sales event where the Staccato guys had a table. You did a nice job explaining the differences between the different magazines (legacy .38 Super / 9mm vs newer 16 round 9mm and the recently introduced 15/17 round 9mm). The Staccato website doesn’t really do a very good job explaining the differences and even going to the section that sells magazines didn’t clear up my confusion. I didn’t realize the 16 round mags were also compatible, but superseded. I’ve heard about you and had seen gun sights and parts with your brand, nice to see you have a KZbin channel. Any idea as to why the follower on those magazines extends beyond the lips of the magazine tube? I had one that extended 2-3 mm above the lip and as a consequence the slide would get caught and not close on an empty magazine. Staccato promptly replaced that magazine but I noticed that all CS and C magazines extend beyond the lip which it is something that I have never seen on double stack magazines of any brand.

@StevePeterson136 ай бұрын
@@PkwyDrive13 This is completely inaccurate. Yes, the barrel is .1” longer on the C than the C2. The C2 has a larger grip circumference due to the magazine. The C has a smaller grip circumference because the magazine is 9mm specific now. The C2 has a traditional internal extractor. The C has an external extractor. The C weighs less than the C2. Hilton/10-8 Performance do you have any thoughts, with your background in law enforcement, on the recent commotion regarding the drop safety (or lack of) of the Staccatos? Thanks.
@Rubeless6 ай бұрын
It’s a 70 series 1911 design.
@M1911jln6 ай бұрын
Exactly, it is a Series 70 style action, so it is not drop safe. It doesn’t have a firing pin block. The only thing that keeps the firing pin off the primer is the firing pin retaining spring. If you drop the gun on its muzzle, the gun stops when it hits the floor, but the firing pin has inertia and it wants to keep going. So if you drop it from a high enough height, the inertia of the firing pin will be enough to overcome the force of the firing pin spring, and the gun will fire. Hilton tested this more than 15 years ago. It only took less than 5’ for a Series 70 to discharge. You can increase the required height for the gun to discharge by using a lighter titanium firing pin (which has less inertia) and an extra strength firing pin retaining spring. The lighter firing pin and stronger retaining spring will improve the drop safety but won’t eliminate the problem - this is all simply physics. The strength of the retaining spring is fixed, but the inertia is proportional to the height of the drop. So no matter how strong the spring, you will always be able to overcome it by increasing the height of the drop.
@yudaliu7256 ай бұрын
@@M1911jln I understand. Given his knowledge and background I'm asking his thoughts on this type of firearm in a duty or edc use. Clearly series 70 1911s have been in serious use for awhile and anecdotally there has been very few ADs due to drops... anecdotally I've heard/read more about accidental ADs due to striker fired pistols without a manual/external safety, yet they are widely adopted by law enforcement agencies and civilians and no one bats an eye.
@M1911jln6 ай бұрын
@@yudaliu725Considering the frequency of physical struggles that police get into, I would not choose a gun that it is not drop safe as a duty handgun. I use and have carried handguns which are not drop safe, but I’m not a police officer so my likelihood of getting into a physical struggle is significantly lower. But that is just my 2 cents.
