Metro Center + Castles and Coasters was the Saturday special for me in my teenage years. Go to a movie at Metro and hang out there from around 10 - 3, then castles and coasters until parents picked up around 8 or 9. I'm sure my parents loved not having me around on Saturdays :)

The mall in Casa Grande was abandoned because of the new shopping center they built just down the street. It was still being used a few years after that opened, probably by those people who got raided for investor fraud. We used to stop by the Wendy's there every Sunday on the way to Eloy from Phoenix.

@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 Right on. I think this stuff is important, the work that you do. Ten years, fifty years, someday all that stuff will be lost to the sands of time. Some archaeologist in 3189 will dig up bits of Hell's Waterpark and declare it was a "temple to unknown water dieties..." :-) What you do provides a permanent record, a snapshot in time. You tell exactly why it was built, when, what happened. Who knows, some future kid on Mars in a rubber suit may take your digital class in Western US History. Pretty cool.

the Fiesta Mall is a little special to me since after it finally closed down my dad took me to that parking lot to practice driving. was a little bummed to hear that they demolished it shortly after, but it served me well in that small way. probably went there a few times as a small child in the 2000's, but I will always remember it as the driving practice place.

I lived across the street from the metro center when it closed. Worked door dash at the time and occasionally would get orders from the Cinnabon inside which was one of the only remaining stores when it closed. The Cinnabon was on the opposite side from the only doors you were still allowed to go through and you’d have to walk past rows and rows of either closed stores or people that would normally be running one of those knock off toy booths running out of the store locations and one place that did taxes AND wedding photos. Malls that are close to dying always have a specific feel about them. All of the escalators were off and blocked off, there was a minimum amount of lights on, and hardly anyone inside. Right before it closed, there was a very briefly a uhaul store that was planning to begin running out of one of the big flag store locations, but it never even began work and if you looked inside it was just a big empty building with everything torn up. Also the harkins that’s attached to it had a very old school concessions stand, two actually but only one ran and it was the further away one… I very specifically remember a giant popcorn kernel attached to one of the walls and nothing else to go with it. I was sad when it closed but it was on its deathbed for a longggg time.

They closed the outlet mall in Casa Grande years before the one in Marana opened. The big shopping center a mile or so up the road plus Arizona Mills is what killed that outlet. It was also dead long before when they say in the video.

I previously commented on when I worked at the Fiesta Mall in 2013 and how it showed signs of its impending closure. Around the same time, I lived just a few blocks from Metrocenter Mall. One day I decided to walk over to the mall I was not impressed. Much like Fiesta Mall, it also showed signs of its impending closure. In the following years, my friend and I used to go to Metrocenter just to see movies at the Harkins Theatre.

It was a Tanger Outlet Center in Casa Grande. Not Tanjer, Tang-Er. Tanger still has outlets all over, I hear their commercials on livestream radio often. They just dumped this location cause it had its day for sure. Nowadays, the concept of driving an hour out of town to go look at shoes is silly. And is another example of puffy business ideas that live to die off the open freeway between Marana/Tucson and Chandler/Phx. Eloy and Arizona City are still highway robbery locations with the highest sales taxes in the state. If you slow down there, they’ll grab your wallet.
