The mall in Casa Grande was abandoned because of the new shopping center they built just down the street. It was still being used a few years after that opened, probably by those people who got raided for investor fraud. We used to stop by the Wendy's there every Sunday on the way to Eloy from Phoenix.

I lived across the street from the metro center when it closed. Worked door dash at the time and occasionally would get orders from the Cinnabon inside which was one of the only remaining stores when it closed. The Cinnabon was on the opposite side from the only doors you were still allowed to go through and you’d have to walk past rows and rows of either closed stores or people that would normally be running one of those knock off toy booths running out of the store locations and one place that did taxes AND wedding photos. Malls that are close to dying always have a specific feel about them. All of the escalators were off and blocked off, there was a minimum amount of lights on, and hardly anyone inside. Right before it closed, there was a very briefly a uhaul store that was planning to begin running out of one of the big flag store locations, but it never even began work and if you looked inside it was just a big empty building with everything torn up. Also the harkins that’s attached to it had a very old school concessions stand, two actually but only one ran and it was the further away one… I very specifically remember a giant popcorn kernel attached to one of the walls and nothing else to go with it. I was sad when it closed but it was on its deathbed for a longggg time.

When i was a kid on my first visit to AZ in '76, they had live buffalos that were tame and let you pet them at Meteor Trading Post.

@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 Also, the Cafe that used to be in the dome, inside and outside served as the set for a few very important scenes in John Carpenters "Starman". A great movie featuring Jeff Bridges in his young and verile prime.

@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 I remember that they felt like petting a couch. Not like a cow at all. I regularly hunt deer and elk in AZ for the past 20 years, but hunting a couch that stands around really doesn't get me excited. Although Bison is delicious and very good for you.

The Casa Grand mall sold clothes that had defects. I bought a pair of expensive Reebok tennies and they fell apart in 3 weeks. I never went back

You should have shown Phoenix Mart which would have tied into the old Tanger Mall considering it was owned by the same guy who got raided

It was a Tanger Outlet Center in Casa Grande. Not Tanjer, Tang-Er. Tanger still has outlets all over, I hear their commercials on livestream radio often. They just dumped this location cause it had its day for sure. Nowadays, the concept of driving an hour out of town to go look at shoes is silly. And is another example of puffy business ideas that live to die off the open freeway between Marana/Tucson and Chandler/Phx. Eloy and Arizona City are still highway robbery locations with the highest sales taxes in the state. If you slow down there, they’ll grab your wallet.
