I found it weird how you didn't mention that the humans were nerfed in their technology and weapons while on Pandora. The RDA was forced to downgrade a lot of their equipment and even replace the materials used to build some of the equipment, just so that it wouldn't be affected by Pandora's magnetic fields. So anyone wondering where are the railguns and laser weapons and all that, they're all on Earth and its colonies.

it's mainly because of targetting issues. in the movie they said that they couldn't guide missiles to the soul tree because of the electronic field which is bs IMO. you can manually guide a missile via camera.

You know what I just realised? They said they couldn’t use guided munitions near the tree of souls because of some bs jamming of guidance systems. Whelk unguided munitions from a stand-off range won’t have that problem. Some good old fashioned unguided howitzers would take care of that. And if they were just gonna drop some dumb bombs like they did in the movie, have them fly higher above the banshees and just resort to carpet bombing. They can even also use their gunships and have them fire unguided rocket pods from standoff range.

On the other hand, they had some flaws too. Despite introducing the concept of an Alpha Site (offworld base to act as an evacuation area) they never developed it. Why risk Earth to things like black holes, time loops and ancient weapons when you could be risking a small offworld base instead? Why is the Alpha Site only evacuated to in the event of Goa'Uld invasion, when humanity should be colonising every not previously inhabited but habitable world they can find? Why use the Earth stargate for exploration when powering it apparently costs so much? Use it when its needed, let the exploration happen from other sites. I love Stargate as a series, but damn if there weren't some missed opportunities.

Sec Ops is basically a PMC. And they use a century old tech (in-Universe) because 2154 technology has problems working in powerful electromagnetic fields, and more importantly, is costlier to replace, while all the RDA vehicles are dirt-cheap and is constructed on-site by stereolitographic plants. Not to menton they are outnumbered so heavilly, they each can shoot like 100 natives and STILL lose by attrition (Hellgate garrison with all the miners being armed was like three hundred men + pilots). Hope the REAL army show up... In the sequels.

It was said that RDA SecOps *worldwide* (I.e. in it's entirety in the Solar System and beyond) are in the ten most powerful armies of the world, but considering the gap between real life "top" militaries and the rest of the world it's safe to assume that RDA's forces are equal in power to something like modern day Spain or Italy; pretty well equipped and trained, but nowhere near on the level to project power beyond securing the basic corporate interests.

There is an epilogue to Avatar that was deleted. When they get back to the ship, director Parker Selfridge orders the removal of one of the sub light engines of the interstellar transport, and aims it at the Tree of Souls where all the Navi military and the traitor Jake Sully are gathered. They trigger it and it slams into the planet, wiping out all surface life for 200 kilometers. While the engine was expensive, it was more than compensated for by the availability and lower running cost for follow up mining, considering the greatly reduced security situation and easy accessibility of mineral deposits now exposed. In addition all the mining facilities were outside the blast radius and the ship didn't have enough space for all the evacuated personnel, so really it was the best option from a cost benefit and crew safety perspective.

The marines in Avatar operate pretty much like the US military, and we know that while they're willing to annihilate any potential spotted hostile, they want to keep as many options, and thus they send small teams of troops and crewmen with the best enough tech and ammo for the mission. With this, the team in question has to make use of what they have effectively, especially with the mounting cost of tech-tree development. In a sense, the marines from Avatar were meant to let us down.

I disagree with counting ''weak enemy'' as an advantage. For starters, you didn't list something like ''strong enemies'' as a weakness for the others. Also, the Marines aren't going to go up against the Navi. They're going up against the other marines. By your logic, the Imperial Guard will lose automatically because their enemies include Chaos and the Necron, even though that's not who they will be fighting in the match up.

Agreed. If anything, as American Ben alluded to, "weak enemies" should be a flaw, not a strength: the SecOps _lost_ to the Navi, after all. I mean, maybe he meant that of all the different units analyzed, the SecOps had gear that was best-suited to dealing with their opponents, rather than the more common approach of "well, this is what we have, so this is what we'll use" like with the UNSC. Their rifles are generally good, as far as bullet hoses go, but they're not really specialized in taking down Covenant shields. By comparison, the rifles, grenades, autocannons, machine guns, and so on of the SecOps are pretty much exactly what you'd want against an enemy like the Navi. ...But even there, it's hard to say that the SecOps's weapons were the _most_ effective in their intended role. The USCM's flamethrowers and explosive-tipped ammunition were absolute murder on the Xenomorphs, even if they weren't specifically designed with them in mind, the Republic equipped their Clone Troopers with blasters optimized for use against droids, and the Mars-pattern lasgun is pretty much the sweet spot between firepower, durability, weight, reliability, and ease of manufacture. The Mobile Infantry and UNSC rightly lost points for using machine guns instead of something more advanced, given the enemies they faced and the period they exist in, but if Ben is going to say the SecOps had the best guns for their situation, then he and I will disagree.

Weak Opponents are a Disadvantage in defeat you lost to a weak Opponent Which basically makes you weak in Victory you defeated a weaker opponent not an Impressive Feat Considering even the Worse Army in the World can raid a Unprotected Village for Example Also the Marines didn't necessarily have Weapons that are Specifically suited to Fight Navi it's more like the Navi are Humanlike and therefore are Vulnerable to All Kinds of Weapons if anything their Gear is badly Designed theirs Mechs are exposing pretty much their Entire Body covering it with Bulletproof Glass Which is Useless against Spears thrown by Bows wielded by Superhumans same Goes for their Vehicles their Masks (that can be easily Damaged or Taken off)and the fact they wear Armour that makes them less maneuverable (and won't do shit against Spears or Giant Monsters)

The arrows have the size of spears and the tips are poisoned. Since the bow is a draw-strength based weapon, the strength requiered to shot those giant arrows is more than enough to knock down any human and to cause massive Internal bleeding. If the arrow itself doesn't kill you, you have only minutes to live before the poison kills you.

For the first example That was what I was thinking the humans could make the perfect Apex hunter to fight the Avatars and have humans control them from the space ship. From what I understand the links don’t really have that much range restrictions at all. Thus the humans could send down superior forms and beasts to fight for them at the cost of little to no human life.

Still, it’s explained that the Avatars are EXTREMELY expensive to produce, so creating even a single ”apex predator” from scratch would probably be near impossible, realistically speaking.

The RDA are pretty good, but charged head first into a close range ambush where they couldn't use their long range weaponry, which even basic recon should have showed them. Personally, I think they should have hunkered down at Hell's Gate, fortified the base, cleared the forest back a few hundred yards, and used their aircraft to harass enemy troops approaching the base, if the Brits could pull it off with way fewer advantages at Rorke's Drift the Secops could easily pull it off against the Navi.

@z aciles In the second one, yes. In the first one it was the scientists who had the Avatar bodies and the facility to link with them, not the Marines. It was explained how expensive these Avatars were, so there were only a few around.

One thing i keep wondering about the masks and glass doomes on amps. Cant we just have external cameras like the titans have in titanfall? Its the 22nd century and having a camera linked to a hud would be more durable than a glass target on your face

Four years late, but it’s explained quite well in the movie, and also in other sources. One, electronics are unreliable on pandora. Two, the AMPs are not intended for military use. They are multi-purpose, from crowd-control to mining. Three, they are apparently quite old tech, a necesity due to the unreliable nature of up to date tech on pandora.
