good evening man 🙋‍♂ , bravo for your great youtube channel 🙏 what a joy to find 6 of my 10 favorite albums in jazz fusion / jazz funk, soul, are also in your list! EWF, Herbie, Weather report (bought in 78, when it came out!), Miles, Marvin (the greatest!) and George, of course ... thanks to all these artistic geniuses, this passion, started for my part, in 77 still continues almost 50 years later 🙏 thank you to them, thank you to you! a greeting from the south of France ... 👍

Weather Report, yes!! As you put it very well, Black Market hit me hard at the right time of my life. Not to forget Dr Buzzard's original, I loved when the great DJ's, Guy Cuevas, of my favorite club in Paris plaid it almost every single nights for weeks!

Dr Buzzard / August Darnell / Kid Creole is so under-appreciated!! And I love those Herbie Hancock and Weather Report albums, not their best work indeed, but sometimes music hits you in a certain way or at a certain time that it sticks forever. Inspiring video, Sir!

Hey Kenny…new subscriber here from the beautiful Pacific NW and home to the greatest listener supported Jazz station KMHD. I’m digging your knowledge and passion for all jazz forms as well as your very cool backdrop of vinyl. Happy to see you choose EWF’s That’s The Way of The World album. That and Head to The Sky would be on my top ten. EWF was so tight and talented. Their lengthy Jazz jams such as Zanzibar take me away. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Jazz. 👍

Earth Wind and Fire, A love supreme, and What's goin on are in my albums I couldn't live without. What I relate with you is when I was in college in Nashville, I learned more about music than at any other time. What was so cool is Nashville was a fusion jazz destination for concerts. My personal album I could not live with out is Return to Forever Romantic Warrior. Thanks Kenny, I really respect your opinions. I will listen to your suggestions.

What a great video, Sir! Congratulations! I also love many of those as well. Savannah, Benson, Gaye, Mendes... yes, they are AWESOME! I discuss this issue myself in one of my videos: the songs/albums/artists we like best are usually the ones we listened during our teen years. That seems to be your case as well. Good day to you Kenny! I hope and pray that you and your family are well! I enjoyed this video very much. This concept poses a conundrum for me. The reason being is that I was not really an habitual 'full album' listener. That changed in the last ten years of my life. Don't ask me why, because I really couldn't say. 😊 I grew up influenced by the music of my grandparents, my parents and my teenaged babysitting cousins. I heard WWI marching tunes, big band era, classical, crooners and rock and roll. Your list introduced me to some music that I have never heard before. Some albums that I will mention as being very influential on me.... Marvin Gaye What's going on? left me dumbfounded! What an album....lyrically, musically Freedom At Point Zero Jefferson Starship.....the first LP I ever bought with my own money. Weird Al Yankovic's first album Yello One Second. I heard 'Oh Yeah' on the Ferris Bueller soundtrack. I bought the album and really enjoyed every song on it. This is going to sound odd.... Perry Como's Christmas Album To this day, I can listen to it and I am transported back to laying on my parent's living room carpet, mesmerized by the big old light bulbs on the tree and the tinsel reflecting a myriad of color as that album spun on the turntable. God's Peace to you and all here 🙏 💪✌️

Kenny, I have to agree with you on so many of your selections. When you include Sergio, I knew you were a serious. There was a saying in my neighborhood, that if you didn't have any Sergio in your collections, you couldn't be a player. However, as good as your list is, brother you have to include some Wes. I know there's so much good music out there but you just can't exclude Wes', Day In The Life. Buddy Miles Live album with "Down By The River" is certainly a classic. Got to go too much music going through my mind. Just thinking of the mind, Music Of My Mind by Stevie is classic. I thank you and keep the videos coming.

You have single-handedly reminded me of what I have in my collection and the revisiting of the great times i had and the people i listened with. Lol and the gear i used to have. Fondly remember my reel to reel. Lol a little controversial is your choice of George Benson. Gimme the night is not even his best album. Some argue that this is the album that made him sell out. Good morning Kenny: You surely like many directions in music besides jazz. But love to hear your opinions about this eclectic mix. Brasil 66 did some wonderful stuff. But can't agree that Coltrane's A Love Supreme is overlooked. One of my favorites that's been forgotten is Max Roach + 4 on Polygram. Recorded in Sept. and March of 1956 and 1957. This is the original Brown/Roach group but Kenny Dorham replaces Clifford and the great Ray Bryant replaces Ritchie Powell. Sonny Rollins is outasight. The first track, Ezz-Thetic by George Russell is my favorite (sort of a-tonal but not a-tonal). And the CD has some original tracks that did not appear on vinyl. And well recorded. Keep these posts coming.

Sunlight by Herbie Hancock ! I always loved I thought it was you , great groove and song and solo and riffs . Herbie wears a suit by Tommy Nutter , really cool tailors shop that was in Saville Row the street where the Beatles played on the roof . I used to work in another shop in that street in 1985 . Always wondered if Herbie would be turning up ? Jaco plays on Good Question I think it is with Tony Williams. Herbie has two piano solos going on , think I saw Herbie in a yellow sports car near that shop on regent street . Recently got a dvd of Blow Up a cool 1965 London film with Herbie doing the sountrack

Hey Kenny love your videos and your passion. I agree with Marvin that release is so utterly holy, love it. Regarding Rod McKuen, in my top 10 would be Frank Sinatra's 'A Man Alone' for the same reason that you so beautifully expressed, all lyrics are by Rod and the fact that its Frank in his later years singing about loss and regret, it's beautiful and also simultaneously searingly painful to listen to, beautiful string arrangements too. I assume you know of that release, but if not, check that out, you will LOVE it.

Due to listening to his style of music (which in my opinion is hard to define) I was able to branch out and give other types of music a try. Although my typical go to is mainly jazz and r&b, my faves are all over the map. And btw, I have to rank my favorites by the criteria of "listenability" or, can I listen to the whole album without skipping a single tune? Here they go in no particular order. 1 Electric Ladyland Jimi Hendrix 2 Axis Bold as Love Jimi Hendrix 3 Band of Gypsies Band of Gypsies 4 Portraits of Duke Ellington Joe Pass 5 School Days Stanley Clarke 6 Romantic Warrior Return tn Forever 7 Tenderly George Benson 8 Look to the Rainbow Al Jarreau 9 California Dreaming Wes Montgomery 10 Duke Ellington/John Coltrane Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. That's my list. Guitar heavy I know, but it's my favorite instrument. I have more but you said 10 Lol.

Dr. Buzzard's debut is an enduring classic as is the follow up "Meets King Pennett (which I like even better). My list would include - David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees, Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates, Sylvester Living Proof, Prince - Under the Cherry Moon, Dione Warwick Aquarela Do Brasil, Rufus ft. Chaka Khan - Ask Rufus, Isaac Hayes - Black Moses and Diana Ross - Lady Sings the Blues

@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Its a more mature record - takes more chances musically and builds on the sound of the debut album. Corey is in great form -kzbin.info/www/bejne/gorFdWOjorSJitU

I'm not good at making lists. I think "A Love Supreme" would make it - Part II: Redemption is probably my all-time favorite jazz song. That or "Moanin'" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Jeff Beck - "Blow by Blow" would also make my list.

It makes me wonder the kind of experiences you went through that made you fall for the kistch of Rod McKuen or the banality of Longet's singing. We share something.
