You could also use an Echo Dot as a speaker. Just open the bluetooth settings on your Fire Stick, and ask the Echo to "scan bluetooth". The Echo will show up in the Stick and you can connect like any bluetooth speaker, and they have really good sound.

Great video. I will no doubt end up coming back several times to watch sections to support me trying out these things. I like the option of using Echo speakers to beef up the sound of the TV. I notice you did not mention echo Shows as an option. Is it possible to use one of these as one of the speakers?

Brian, you really put a lot of effort into this useful and comprehensive video. I was hoping some of it would work with my two Insigia Fre TVs, but it's not to be. Nevertheless it's a great reference. BTW, I love the FireTV platform. Yep, I also have a Roku and Chromecast on each TV and also have an Nvidia Shield TV, but the FireTV is my default platform.

@@AutomateYourLife My goal (accomplished) was to be able to hand my wife one single fairly simple remote and have it do everything without the need for a separate TV remote . In the case of a Fire TV a different remote doesn't exist as there is just one. There are drawbacks, of course, but a happy wife is what us old guys try to accomplish...and every now and then achieve!

Maybe it's just me, but I had a problem with a uGreen hub on the Firestick. It's old but works fine on my Shield and my Windows server. . I kept losing connection to my usb stick. I swapped and all is good. I have two Atolls hubs from Amazon, one 7 port and a 4 port. These provide a good amount of powér, are reliable and inexpensive. The 4 port Atolls works great on the Firestick. .

Hi, Great video. How did you get the USB game controllers working? I have heard that the Xpad Kernel has been turned off on firesticks thats why you need to connect Bluetooth. I tried a wired xbox controller with the OTG adapter but wont work. DOes it only work because of the Ugreen Hub?

Hi! Question.. I have the FireStick 4k. Plugged into a receiver that's connected to my speakers and TV. Can I simultaneously play audio from a connected bluetooth speaker (Bose mini) and through my HDMI connection to the receiver? The goal would be to have the speaker in another room close by and listen to the same music coming out of my main setup. You're likely to have delay issues even if you could make this happen. It wouldn't be easy Nicole and there's not just a quick way for me to say "oh do this". In fact, as I've been thinking about it...it seems impossible today. I'd have to know a lot about your receiver and your speaker and the apps you have, and then it probably wouldn't work because of Bluetooth delays.

Oh you know...I've never tried! I do know you can sideload just about any app you want, but I don't think you can remove them. Not without a full jailbreak or trying to reload the OS. I wonder if an Android TV might fit you better then anyways?

There's an option in the list of apps to see ones not installed on this device. You should be able to just pick them. Sideloaded ones...I'm not sure which ones will show up there Tom, but I saw a few of mine. :)

Adding an extra memory device such as a memory stick or SSD is relatively easy as you pointed out on a Firestick 4K Max, however on a standard Firestick 4K it’s a lot more long winded and not at all straight forward. You can’t just plug it in and expect it to work. Have you thought about doing a video that will show the method used to add extra storage to a standard 4K Firestick?

Apologies, I should have said adding an extra storage device so that part, or all of it, can then be used to extend the system storage i.e to automatically install apps to the external device. This is because the Firestick 4K is still restricted to Fire OS6 while the newer models such as the Lite and the 4K Max can use Fire OS7. I understand there is a way using Remote ADB Shell, but as I say it is a bit long winded.

It appears to not be pairing as it stated that it would automatically. I plugged in the dongle and the red & blue lights flash back and forth. I unplugged the power and back. Hey Bill, sounds like you're about to have a LOT of fun!!! The Mini keyboard should just add by way of plugging in the dongle into the hub. As long as it's powered, it should find it. There should be no pairing needed. So if it's not doing that, I might suggest plugging the keyboard's dongle into something like a PC to see if the keyboard works. Or another device. Some of the mini keyboards might not work, so hopefully it's nothing like that. I did find sometimes if I was too far away, it wouldn't pair the first time. :)

Hey Jeremy, I can't be 100% sure of which versions of the cube it works with, but in general, these solutions work with all fire tv products. The kicker might be that you need an extra or different adapter. So I can't tell you for sure because I don't have one, but generally you're good to go

Most hubs have a max internet speed so it can be slower than WiFi. Does the one you showed have a max speed?

Problem: When adding an external storage through OTG, the card reader with the SD card (64Gb) is not recognized by fire TV as the you show on your video. However the file manager reports an external drive. I wanted to move some of my apps from fire tv to the SD card. Double click the app from SD card. Error appears that it has problem parsing. Whatever "parsing" means. So, in short, it does not work. How will I make it recognize the external storage.

Right, so I said with a card reader and an SD card in it, that function won't work. You can't use that as an external drive. Instead, get a USB drive.

If only the Firestick Remote could control the "Home" and "Settings" and "Source" menus of a Samsung TV, that would solve a lot of problems. But it does not :( It would be great also to see the Alexa Dashboard and Smarthings Dashboards. Convergence they said !

It can definitely change your TV source! That's programmable in to the stick and then you just ask Alexa to switch with the remote. Switch to HDMI 1 is a command I use all the time. Home button brings you to fire stick HDMI port usually too

The Firestick has a setting for when audio is delayed btw. You can basically force the audio to send to the BT speaker before the video displays it. Its somewhere in the audio settings

I just got the firestick 4k max and it's not allowing me to download apks such as Cinema HD or Google playstore or Crowns Lite VOD apk. I keep getting message downloading not supported. I spoke to Amazon help and was told that it was not an android system and won't allow some android app. Do you have a way around this? BTW I did activate developer options to allow third party apps. I'm frustrated and am about to return the firestick and get a regular android box.

Can someone tell me what is so great about firestick? I've been using the media players from ebay that cost less than $30 (T95 4k, MXQ Pro 4k, and several others). They come with just about every app on firestick. They come with 2 or 3 usb ports. They come with WiFi, Bluetooth and Miracast to cast from your cellphone. They run Kodi media player software. All these external things you are purchasing for firestick are already inside the media player boxes (microSD card reader, Ethernet plug, hdmi 2.0, You can download apps from Googleplay). So, the question again: Why is firestick still a thing? What does it do that Media player boxes from eBay don't? I can connect 2 harddrives and a Bluetooth full keyboard / mouse combo and play movies from my harddrives (I haven't tried any over 2gb yet) on a media player box that I just plugged into the hdmi port on my HDTV. Or I can stream just about anything as soon as I log into my WiFi (which I have never had streaming problems from). I just don't understand. Make me understand why people would choose expensive firesticks that have limited capabilities over Media player boxes. What am I missing out on by not having a firestick? You talk about losing connections with the WiFi on firestick. Do Media player boxes have a larger WiFi internal antenna because I don't lose streaming connections like you say you do with the firesticks. So, what am I missing out on using my sub $30 media player boxes over firestick? I really want to know.

I don't think you're missing out on too much specifically with those media players. I've found them not being updated in terms of Android or new features in my experiences, but there's some good ones for sure. So having a platform that actually does get updated is nice, with support and connectivity to Echo Speakers is great. It also plays well with a lot of smart home stuff. If you watch our channel, you'll see lots of benefits that way.

That sounds like it's your TV's settings you need to look into. Might be something related to that HDMI input and the resolution or type of device being expected.

Do you know if dialogue enhancer on amazon firestick simply raises center channel audio by a few db or is it more complex than that similarly to some AVRs? Cannot find anything about this anywhere online.

Sorry Mike, I don't. To me it feels like a mid range dB adjustment and not just center channel audio. That's just to my ear.

Hi I have a smart tv that's 7 years old and it has Dolby vision and 4k the original remote would stream 4k Dolby vision which used to look so good but the remote stopped working so I bought a fire TV ultra stick and it's not able to stream Dolby vision and 4k at the same time

Soooo it's likely you're being held back by the HDMI ports on there. Look at the diagnostic screen I show right off the bat and see what the hdcp is that shows and then compare that to what's possible through that port

The fire stick 4K has Bluetooth built into it under stetting. No need for that adaptor thing for your keyboard and mouse. I just saw it on a mother video.

Does anyone know why my Fire stick lite mirror screened just fine to my new Koobee k100 Android yesterday via the Cast Screen feature on the cellphone, froze after I was testing going to Facebook logging into my Google account to log into my KZbin account😤!!! After that, the fire stick hasn't appeared on any of my cellphones but my cellphones or devices picks up all wireless displays in the area😤but not my fire stick!!! I have soft reset, hard reset, factory reset and nothing!

If you're using the hub I showed, it'll work. Otherwise, I don't think it will. The Lite version is what I used for the whole video, fyi

I really appreciate this research and sharing. Great video! But what for actually? Seems to be you're trying to do with the simple streaming device all what already has been done on the Windows notebook 10 years ago. Just connect your laptop / PC workstation to the large monitor / TV .... and that's all.

You know that's more expensive right? Also laptops and PCs are way more expensive! (It's 25€ right now) And I won't use my PC, it's too loud and big. I have laptops the aren't in use, but they're slow + I want to turn that thing ON and OFF with a remote! Not us a mouse for everything, it's impractical.

Warning : do not connect your external hard drive to the USB port shown in this video. Reasons 1. The hard drive requires more voltage than a flash drive and hence may not be detected 2. If you connect external power to the USB hub used to power your external HDD, your storage device will burn out instantly and is no longer usable. Data recovery can be very expensive. So connect only flash drives, never a HDD.

@@AutomateYourLife I have a Belkin 4 port usb type-A hub that has a DC power input pin also to its side. Things were fine as long as I just connected the input usb port of the hub to fire stick and plugged in my thumb drives into the hub. But with external HDD, the story was different. It was not detected when I added it to the hub , while thumb drives were working. So I thought probably the voltage to the external HDD is insufficient and so I plugged in the external power supply (came along with the product) into the DC input pin of the Belkin hub. That's it, instant burn out of all the USB devices connected to the hub. Luckily my fire stick was not affected.

That's usually based on the service, or your home's WiFi not being able to keep up. I would try wiring it in, per this video. :)
