It can really not be overstated just how strong the writing in _The Man From Earth_ was. It was strong to the point of being captivating despite the fact that the film had practically no budget, took place almost entirely in one living room, and even committed the mortal sin of having characters ask the main guy "So what happened next" to progress the story. Despite these shortcomings, the story is utterly fascinating, and exceptionally well acted (including one performance from a very subdued Tony Todd). It would make a fantastic stage play.

I stumbled across Europa Report after it was on streaming (didn't even know it was a theatrical release) and saw three people in it that I recognized, so I thought "I'll give this a go". It has become one of my favorite space travel movies. The Man from Earth was about the same way for me, the story was simple, but excellently delivered. Spontaneous was different, I'd heard about before it was dumped, and given the subject matter having people randomly exploding, I was interested from the start. I never understood why it was just dumped out there. It was a great story, as long as people weren't trying to turn it into a message about whatever agenda they are trying to promote this week.

Two thoughts here: as a confirmed Film Noir aficionado, "Brick" absolutely nails the genre. It's somewhat justifiably famous among people who love the genre as likely the best "updated" FN movie of the last 20 years or so. Ryan Johnson got it pitch perfect. Next, I never in a million years thought I would be able to sympathize with a child molester, but Kevin Bacon's performance in "The Woodsman" did so. The picture of this very human man struggling with impulses he doesn't want and has difficulty controlling is absolutely mesmerizing, and I think Kevin Bacon was absolutely robbed; he absolutely deserved an oscar nomination at the least. Don't forget Kyra Sedgwick in this film as well; she does an awesome job as his girlfriend who understands and tries to help him.

Retreat - Cillian Murphy, Thandie Newton and Jamie Bell. Brilliant little remote island paranoia thriller. Boiling Point - Stephen Graham is amazing in this one shot restaurant and kitchen drama. Cold Skin - amazing little lighthouse horror film that is way more interesting than Robert Egger’s The Lighthouse. Black Sea - Jude Law leads a great cast about how greed warps men’s minds aboard a claustrophobic submarine. Hunter Killer - an excellent military thriller that doesnt get talked about nearly enough.

A great 90's movie that not alot of people have seen is Four Rooms. Takes place on new years eve in a hotel with 4 segments or rooms each directed by a different director, including Robert Rodríguez, and Quinton Tarantino P.S. If you start to watch the movie and don't like it after the first room it's O.K. the first room is by far the worst.

Brick is truly one of the worst films I've ever watched. It's badly directed. Unbelievable characters who are impossible to feel anything for. The majority of the time the characters mumble in coherently as well. Without subtitles, I don't think I'd have understood half of what they actually said. It's destined to remain unloved because it's a bad story, masked by "style" which seems to be enough to pull the wool over some people's eyes.
